Something is really, really wrong with gamers and their priorities these days. Dozens of pages and hundreds of comments about a possible "downgrade" in visual quality but almost nobody cares about that CDPR got Ciri's magical abilities wrong or that Eredin's voice is laughable at best...

Well, in these kind of complaints you can at least put some objectivity behind your arguments.

On the other side, I can really explain why i like or dislike the VA's of Jen and Eredin (i like them a lot actually, hearing Jen's mature voice brought about a huge sigh of relief). And Ciri, no one knows exactly what she's like now, so much time passed since we last saw her in a book. Could she have developed new powers in a not-lore-breaking way or is it going to be used for convinience? That we cant possibly know from a few snippets of footage.

Ok now we just need some official screenshots, since even though its a 3GB video, as always, its compressed, that would show us the quality thats closest to running the engine.

The only downgrade I see is the Mage wild hunt guy and Eredins textures.
If you look at the textures of the regular wild hunt grunts in the uncompressed video and compare it to the uncompressed SoD trailer, then the difference is nil, its unchanged.

as I said earlier, enviro and most of the character models looks top notch . I dont see any downgrade, maybe only Wild Hunt armor nothing more

Red Engine 3 looks inferior to DA:I based on what we've seen this year.

Ahem, no, actually not. DA:I has a lot of graphical weaknesses. Also the amount of detail is pretty low, especially in urban settings. No comparison to for example Assassin's Creed Unity which easily beats DA:I in overall visual quality. Red Engine 3 may come close but it also has its weaknesses like facial design and animations and some lightning problems. Talking about textures is pretty pointless without knowing on which version the cutscenes are based and whether PC will offer better textures in the end.

And to make matters worse, Red Engine 2 in Wither 2 looks better.

And no again. The gameplay demonstration from E3 actually looked better than gameplay from Witcher 2.

Well, I'm really tired and want to go sleep. I am disappointed with the wild hunt models, but if this was a rush job then a lot of this footage may be old. Yes, I know. Shitty excuse and all that. The famitsu screenshots weren't a rush job though, they were printed in a magazine and released shortly after. They are a drastic improvement over the E3 build and are the last official screenshots we've gotten. I am holding onto a single string that is those famitsu shots. Two of them are shots we can directly compare and I don't think that's unintentional.

What was the last real trailer before this one? Other than the intro? Wasn't it Sword of Destiny? And this video was never planned till recently? So they had no new trailers planned until probably the launch trailer. They had screenshot batches planned though most likely.

And yet it still didn't look as good as what was shown in the VGX trailer

You must have been looking at something completely different from what I saw. How can you sit there with a straight face and say what we see in the above clip is superior to DA:I? It's a patently false statement. And why would they be showing anything other than their best less than three months out?

Graphical issues don't just lie in terms of textures, though there's plenty of texture issues in this trailer as well.

The lighting is neutered, the shadows are horrible and effects in general look worse.

Again off-topic (for the last time, sry again): I didn't lose a word about Yen's voice (it's Yen, not Jen). It's Eredin's voice which is downright terrible. And I listed the reasons for that opinion in my long word-creation. ;)

You can somehow justify literally everything with "we don't know what happend in the few years between". So maybe Han Solo suddenly will be able to use Jedi powers in the new Star Wars saga? Who know, everything's possible if just the writers are creative enough, or not? That's not the point of my issues. The point is that there are characters with certain powers, character traits, behaviours and so on and people like them how they are or were. They have certain expectations what to expect from these characters and how they behave or act or appear. Changing that for no apparent reason is lame, just lame. There better is a damn good reason for it. Or would it also be ok if Geralt suddenly became a powerful sorcerer in the past few years, just because it could be somehow possible by some writing shenangians? ;)

I agree (at least in some parts). That doesn't change the points about AC Unity or DA:I though.

And this thread is just full of wild speculations without enough information to justify proper interpretations for the final version or the PC version of the game.

That's not on ultra, hell it's not even on High.

Yes DA:I actually has high level detail textures.

Ahem, read again. I talked about the actual gameplay we've seen, not about some cutscene trailer.

And DA:I just objectively has a lot of graphical weaknesses as well. Bad textures in some places, lacking sparpness, pretty low amount of details, low polygon models sometimes, lightning issues (especially with too much bloom and reflections and stuff), problems with faces, blurring in motion, and so on...

I though refuse to compare gameplay of a final PC version of a video game on maximum setting to some short cutscenes of a beta version of game from which we don't even know the quality settings or platform. Kind of pointless...

Why they didn't show "the best"? Well, if they only show PC stuff on maximum settings all the time, the big majority of gamers (namely the console gamers) will be pretty pissed on release that their version of the game looks so "downgraded" and worse than what they've seen before. We just have to say goodbye to the idea that CDPR develops a PC game here and that everything they show is PC material or maxed out. That's not their core democracy anymore. They have to take care about the huge chunk of console gamers as well and business principles surely tell them that concentrating on the PC version too much (neither before nor after release) is a good idea. Just think about who actually watche the Game Awards and then think again about the trailer they presented. It's a trailer for the console crowd in the US for the biggest part imho.

The griffin part in VGX doesnt look better than more recent footage in my opinion, and if it does, just a little. Geralt's face in the beginning isnt that good, the scene with the horse is good looking but it doesnt really say "from another game".

The awesomness of VGX comes from the swamps, village, and novigrad parts, just like the awesomness from SOD comes from the brothel and torch scenes, the boat with Yen, Yyrden in the caves, etc.

Where did I say DA:I is the pinnacle of graphical fidelity? I said it looks better than anything CDPR have shown this year, and it does. And who said anything about gameplay, I'm talking about graphical fidelity, which took a nose dive after the VGX trailer.
