Like many, I have been watching the development process of The Witcher 3, from afar, for sometime now.
And as with many others, was quite surprised by the trailer we recently saw.
I suppose the first thing that caught my attention was that Geralt, in one shot, reminded me of the new "Game of Thrones" game by TellTale for the iPad.
It was surprisingly very 'painterly', something unexpected from all the other trailers previously seen.
Then there was Yennefer, personally the newer look is more pleasing than the older, but that is personal taste.
What was off here, however, was that it felt like I was looking at a 'plastic' character - or a GuildWars 2 character.
[Please understand, I enjoy playing GuildWars 2 - however, the point is simple... this is "The Witcher" and the style felt off.
All of the comments of "Downgrade" vs. "Compression issues".
I will tend to side with those who say "Downgrade", even if not for the actual game, it was for the trailer - vs. a compression issue.
It was not about artifacts, etc., which Youtube can be notorious for - it was about what i mentioned above with the actual art 'style' feeling 'mixed'.
When the comment came that they had to rush, I then considered the fact that this apparently was not game footage, but more like a movie cut... which then made sense.
i could see the rush, but it did not make sense to say it was due to compression.
After reading most of this thread, skimming through it, I wondered how things would actually turn out - as concerns a response from Red... and I had to laugh that laugh of "I should have saw this coming" when it said that there would be a delay.
At the end of the day - I have no idea what challenges they face. At best, it was just as they said, a quick movie trailer put together... as we have seen gameplay, and they have to iron out some issues to make it tick, unlike some other releases that have just recently came out... a bit too soon.
Worse, it could be that the world is too big, and they are having a time taming it... or in-between it may be that they strive to get a nice balance between console and PC.
Suppose we will see come summer of 2015.
I feel they could have communicated a bit more clearly about it, however they did what they felt they must. Hopefully moving forward communication will continue to come, yet with a bit more clarity.
