After about eight attempts, this worked. Then it kept on working.
Thanks, Tommy. I really appreciate that one.
(Oh, and the other non-intuitive part was that you can get out of the launcher by hitting ESC.)
Even more non-intuitive is to mouse click anywhere on the launcher and then the ESC key stops working and the only way to bring the launcher down is to use the Win7x64 Task Manager to kill it.
OK, I've tried umpteen variations of the "wait 15-20 seconds and run the launcher again" to no avail. Like you I am on Steam and whether I run from the launcher or run from the witcher2 executable, the launcher still runs. Your configuration seems to have repaired itself like magic...

Do you have a logical explanation why "after about eight attempts" the Steam client should start behaving properly and allow you to play the game offline? I can only play online.
I am really rather upset about this. Prior to 2.0 (with 1.3.5) I never had a problem playing off line through the Steam client.
So what has changed in 2.0? It's obvious some DRM was intentionally built in because the launcher now displays a skull/crossbones in the upper left quadrant when I try to run offline, and in the center bottom of the launcher there is a bright orange asterisk followed by bright orange text: "Try and reconnect later" or something like that. All of that is new for 2.0. It does not go away with repeated attempts to run the launcher offline. My game simply will not run offline. Also, the words "registered user" are grayed out of the launcher when offline.
WTF? Now I am wondering if I should have bothered to register the game since I have the steam version...? Perhaps that has screwed the pooch? Now I don't know. CDPR doesn't seem to know, either, sad to say.
I've had a lot of trouble with the mechanics of getting this game to run properly through Steam. I'd kind of like to know whose specific fault that is at this stage--CDPRs or Steam. At any rate, I've had problems getting the patch installed--but it is now properly installed--the game plays fine provided I am online. So far, it looks as if my game just doesn't want to run when offline, and that is a condition I definitely did not pay for and will not be satisfied with going forward. It would be nice to hear from *some* responsible party about this.
