Ok, so now I have problem with XP as well

As I wrote in other threads I have this problem with nvlddmkm file in Vista that makes it impossible to play Witcher (or any other game, it seems). This is how I ended the other thread: "All that remain now is to test Witcher with XP. It's late where I am so it will have to wait untill tomorrow".Well, today I tried and it was a total mess. After the loading screen for Kaer Morhen I get about five seconds into the movie were a man starts to speak about the northern kingdom. Then the screen goes black. The voice, music and other sounds comes and goes. Sometimes there's a bliping sound. The mouse pointer is visible from time to time.I was able to ctrl-alt-del out of it after quite some time. The menu screen became visible at the end but distorted. I tried three times. Then I was about to try windowed mode but that attempt ended in total graphic mayhem already at the menu,I have the latest drivers for graphic and sound card installed and I have installed the directX that came with the game.I don't have any updates for XP installed, though. I wonder if there's something there that is necessary for the game. I installed a much simpler game and it runs just fine so there shouldn't be any basic error with the XP install, I guess. Any suggestion appreciated

You don't have any updates installed for XP? Do you mean you don't have it updated to SP2? If so, first thing to do is get all the critical XP updates. Even if you have SP2, get all the available critical updates.Next, make sure you have the latest version of DirectX 9. Chances are the version on the disc is not up to date.As for drivers, can you tell us exactly what the driver numbers are? I don't know how many times I've seen people report on tech forums that they have the 'latest' drivers, only to later find out they don't.What's your hardware as well? (Video card, amount of RAM, CPU, etc.)

I forgot RAM- it's 2GB.No updates. You see, I installed XP (dual boot) yesterday to see if I could be able to play games again after three weeks struggle with Vista.Dxdiag tells me I have DX9c. As it came with Witcher it should be enough to play the game?Nvidia driver - 169.21SB X-Fi driver - XFXA_PCDRV_LB_1_04_0078 That's the drivers I get when I follow the procedure at the products homepage.

I'm gona have to agree with this here. you need to make sure XP is updated at a minimum to service pack 2. The Witcher will not run unless SP2 is installed.
