Once upon a time... a company

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" George Santayana
Once upon a time there was a small company which wasn't famous. The company then released a game called "Baldur's Gate" and quickly became famous.fans loved the company and it's games.times past, more and more games got released, more and more profit for the company but step by step the company got more distant from it's fans...to the point that their fans didn't matter at all.all that mattered was their profit, their money, their precious...
That company exists today and is a part of bigger company which is famous for being awarded the worst company in US.But the company earns enough profit that prevents it from getting closed (though no one is sure how long will that last).A company that inherited only it's name from it's proud and great past.
But that's done and nothing we can do about it.But there is a similar company which is walking on the edge.will it fall and become another example for other companies which think money will be their salvation ? Or will it return to it's original path ?

Don't expect that things stay forever the same. Companies will always progress towards money - that's ok, because that means the majority likes it (otherwise ppl would stop buying their stuff)

Give me a break. Comparing CD Projekt to Bioware is a joke.

CDPR is perhaps the single most consumer friendly company in the industry. For Christ's sake man, what more do you want? They've released seven patches for the Witcher 3, they are creating 16 free DLC, they are continuing support for the game in the form of additions and tweaks to the dialogue and narrative .... and they are creating two massive expansions (something which you never see anymore) for a reasonable price ... as opposed to other companies which just nickel and dime you for content of questionable worth.

Bioware got the way it did because the company sold its soul to a corporate overlord. CDPR is accountable to no one but themselves. They don't have to rely on an external publisher (yes, WB Games was involved, but they don't call the shots like EA and Ubisoft do), and they have their own lucrative source of income (GoG).

People just like to find negativity where there is none. The Witcher Wild Hunt is a great game. The reviews and sales numbers back that up, and I am thoroughly enjoying the title. Go take your cynicism to the BSN.

If you think they've evolved into a company that you can no longer relate to, then maybe it's time you moved onto something else? After all, there's other alternatives out there. Games evolve as do companies and if they don't, then they will more than likely go under.

Amen.

When CDPR starts charging for these weekly free DLC, when they start cutting content from their games instead of making their games as detailed and as fleshed out as TW3, when the product is obviously suffering due to them being more interested in the bottom line, then you can make the comparisons. But anyone who has actually played TW3 and DA:I would see which company has "sold out" and which hasn't.

The majority doesn't have to like something for a product to be profitable, hence the term "niche market" for example. Furthermore, more often than not when you pander to the majority you are essentially pandering to the lowest common denominator. As a result quality often suffers due to extreme generalization of concepts, complex and intricate systems are exchanged with systems of uniform simplicity, high quality art and graphics are scaled down in order for a game to run on a wider array of systems (namely low-end systems), and lore becomes more cookie-cutter in order to make it relatable to a wider variety of audiences. Your argument fails to take this into account.

Far more often than not products of true quality in the entertainment sector simply do not cater to the majority for these very reasons. The OP was clearly posting in order to express his/her desire that CDPR remain on the "quality" side rather than the "sell-out" side. Selling-out in order to make more money at the expense of quality is certainly not what all successful companies do. The OP, and many others, want CDPR to be a successful company due solely to their quality products not due to maximizing sales in every way possible (e.g. cash shops, paid DLC that should have been included with the original game, rainbow-unicorn flying dragon mounts to soar across the skies of Temeria, etc.) which is a very plausible and respectable goal. With all due respect I think you missed the point of his analogy.
