Outskirts Crypt Lag

Windows 7 - ATI Radeon HD 5770The Crypt in the Outskirts has started having a slide show effect once entering after getting the quest from Mikul. Starting with the cinematic with the woman dead on the floor and about 10 seconds of lag afterwards and after a ghouls dies like other users have posted. The strange part is on my first game I had absolutely no issues with the crypt. The game ran great on high settings everywhere else as well in the Prologue and Chapter 1.I only had one mod installed "Perfect Blood" and uninstalled it but it yielded nothing. I also attempted under clocking my card as one moderator mentioned in the many posts I read but no luck there either. Lowering my settings also did not help. Same amount of lag.I am pretty vexed at what could have caused it. I have a solution. One user suggested loading back on saves and I did on quite a lot but with no luck. Much further back it improved the lag very slightly when entering but was still very harsh. I eventually just loaded up my save where I just got done fighting the barghests after Alvin at the start of Chapter 1. I went and gave the beggar white gull and went straight to Mikul to get the quest. Entered the crypt and had no lag and ghouls died just fine. I certainly didn't rush to this quest like this on my previous game. I had done mostly the same progression aside from purchasing books and farming orens via fighting and poker. The only big difference is I did Brogg's quest before dealing with Mikul in the previous game.I can restart Chapter I all over but I sort of would prefer not to do that. I've read quite a few posts and other users have various issues with crypt areas. I wouldn't be too happy if I was progressing in Chapter 2 or Chapter 3 and came upon another slide show and have to restart a chapter again.I am willing to back up my saves and install the game again but from how it seems (despite my lack of knowledge with the game files) it seems like my saves are somehow bugged or corrupted in some form from my choice of progression or actions. I could also just suck it up and fight through the lag but I fear it appearing again over the course of the game. Especially when revisiting the same crypt for the trophy quest. Thanks for any tips or advice!

did you disable and quit any background running apps like antivirus and such ?[/QUOTE]AV is not running. I did have my Logitech G19's Game Panel app running as I found it surprisingly functions with The Witcher displaying your vitality and endurance in easy to read digits. I will disable it and attempt to run the game in a moment. I am in the process of reinstalling the game. :)

D3DOOverrider also usually runs when I play. I just forgot to mention it as I had already shut it off when I was looking at the App Tray. Anyway, fresh installation with all apps closed. Brought back my saves and attempted to enter the crypt again with no luck.

Done. :) - BTW, thanks for the quick responses. This game really does have an amazing community.- Update, post below read. Now 82.1 GB free in C: Drive and 103 GB free in D: Drive. Defragging both at the moment. Will post when done and have tested the effect on the game.

If your running any virtual drives , try disabling themalso i`m not seeing a whole lot of free space on the drives ...try making some extra room (15%) and defrag .

Well I cleared a lot of space and did a good defrag but no luck. I don't mind trying anything else but if all else fails. I'll just restart Chapter 1 and take my chances. Thank you for the assistance so far. This is just weird. Useless information but interesting and strange none the less.I keep playing with it seeing what is will happen. If I pause the lag immediately stops and the game runs smooth. I messed around with the ghouls. The game also sometimes lags if they are stunned by the Aard sign. To the point spamming the left mouse button would not execute the Coup de grâce. As I said probably not that helpful but weird enough to point out. I don't think I have had any game do something like this. It's just a weird kind of lag for what it is doing.

Lags like this regularly indicate that the game is waiting for resources from the disk. This is especially likely when you get a lag upon entering a new region. If you see the disk activity light working when you get the lag, this clinches it.Also, have you done what Tommy wrote? There's a virtual drive in your PCWizard report. You need to disable the virtual drive software. Your disk is already the slowest thing in the game's data path, and virtual drive software causes additional delays in accessing your disk.

Virtual Drives disabled but no luck..(Edit) I mean to say my computer has no light for disc activity. It just has the ASUS symbol on the front light up when it is turned on... That's it. Any other suggestions?Edit - Probably just gonna roll a new game and play whenever I get back from Gamestop to pay for my pre-order of the Witcher 2 CE tomorrow! =D - I will hang on to the save right before the crypt just in case any solution is found. I will keep watching my post here. I know I can get around the crypt issue by visiting it early in the progression of Chapter 1. I just hope something similar doesn't happen later in the game. I almost considered buying an Nvidia card to see if it would make a difference but found a post on another forum stating they had an Nvidia 7900GTO and was having the same issue with the crypt. I am personally hoping its just a one time bug with Chapter 1 where my choice of progression caused some kind of weird bug but I don't know much about these things. Just a shot in the dark. I'm off for bed soon. I also included another PC Wizard Report to make sure I correctly disabled my virtual drives. Killing Ozzy in the crypt produced no lag btw,

So I assume nobody else has any suggestions? Anybody know if such a bug occurs later on in any chapters with crypts and what not working fine at some point in the game but lagging out later after other story progression?

A long over due update. I just restarted my game. Crypt works fine. No lag during entry or killing any ghouls. Same for when you come back for Ozzy. :)

I'm glad to hear that this is working for you now. The Crypt area is HUGE (not all of the area is seen by the player in the game, but the engine still has to load the whole thing), so loading the crypt can put a strain on the system. Even though things are working fine for you now, I recommend that you save the game before entering any crypt in any chapter, because the game is most likely to crash when loading this enormous area.
