Oversexualizaton in Cyberpunk

Wait, wait, wait!
I know, right? Asked and discussed to the brink of nausea.

I would like to discuss other aspect. How do you present a feature that is an integral part of the genre in a way you wont face the accusation?

I remember Cyberpunk, I played CP2020 for several years, I love an worsjip the genre . The mantality was that sex was just as ordianary and exposed as a new cleaning product... or those Kiroshi eyes. How to intorduce a modern-decadent lifestyle for players to grasp the nuances where you can buy EVERYTHING off the street?
Strait-laced, prudish world? Political corectness? Its done and languishing in the gutter on overdose with eyes full of neon lights.

A large portion of the audiences need a crash -course in the futureshock that is, more or less, the subject here. The idea that the tech evolved so rapidly human mind cant follow... and eventually breaks down. You have to cast aside todays social rules and rigid patterns (acceptance and taboo) to notice that CP2077 is the new perspective.

Out of curiosity I was skimming through other sites and the comments about skimpy and boobs preveil. Why? How do you change the POV of the audiences? Sex for the point of sex... thats the thing, sex is cheap and stripped of reverence. Meat rubbing agains meat for little of earthly pleasure... nothing more. The decadence. How do you show that? Is there a way to escape the trap?
How do you acquire a mindset to change perspective? By what means I ask, can future marketing achive this goal?

I think the trailer did it pretty well for people who know what CP is like. The hard shell doll body isn't the focus, but it's visibily there to remind everyone how this works in the setting. You get perfect outsides with really, really messed up insides. Slick, plastic sex covering chome and rot.

CDPR has always been pretty uncompromising when it comes to showing the setting they work on without any crutches. No wonder people who have no idea how CP looks see tits as just tits, just like they had issues accepting Witcher having such a strong sexuality theme.

In my opinion, no marketing should be required.

People are too up-tight about sexuality, nudity, and anything else having to do with the female body *gasp* in a video game.

Maybe we should just let what's actually in the game stand for itself. Nobody complains about the sexuality in movies or books because people have seen it before; it's normal. Maybe we should be more upfront with the body imagery in all games, because the more people get used to that, the more they'll respect video games as a mature hobby; that will lead to less outcry about nudity in the future. It would advance the industry.

Actually that is pretty easy, you do it to everyone. Not just women, to everyone. The problem with TW 2 was actually that. I liked the trailer, mostly because it had context and she was not there for only eye candy, the camera did not focus on her boobs or something but on her eyes, she had a story. I think that the playboy Triss was the opposite of that and it ruin her character to me.

Actually the media is more afraid to put a naked guys on your screen than a girls, it seem that if you see a penis is automatically porn. If there are homosexual or any kind of non straight people there, that rule can be applied too.

Eventually you came to think she was a escort lady or a prostitute, and she obviously have those clothes for that reason. As so as a Male, to think of it obviously they choose a women because is more attractive and eye candy (and is not because males are the ones who play games, because that is over rated now days) wish i can say is kind of sexist to think about this options in table. But that's how sadly it is.

You don't worry about appeasing everyone. Some will always be offended no matter what you do. Those people aren't your audience. I expect CDPR will handle it with the right amount of panache.

What? Don't you like sex? Sorry, but then I think it's something wrong with you and your human instincts...

I'm drawn to CD Projekt and their games almost exclusively because they are foreign, like to play with mature concepts and don't have those annoying American ideals about sex or nudity being the worst thing ever in a video game (for the record, I'm American and I live in the states). I mean, we're fine with mass murder, but a little sex is a no-no? Eh, I never got that about us. I can understand the reasoning on some level, though (not very good arguments, but that's beside the point).

I don't know what Cyberpunk 2077 is or what it is based off of (some tabletop game?), but, personally, I hope the game stays true to the setting, however perverted and over-sexualized it may or may not be, because I like that sort of thing. Witcher may have actually helped the industry along a bit with that (although the collectible cards in Witcher 1 was kind of amusing in that "this is kind of offensive" sort of way).

Getting the word out there about the game before it's developed so sufficient hype can be built up is a good way to start out, because whether or not they decide to advertise (or are even allowed to) in the more prudish countries will be an afterthought at that point.

Yes they have rather traditional roles that is true it would be nice to see the a guy in her position with that type of clothes and the girl with the gun. Although I think it could be a lot worse too and just because they begging with traditional roles does not mean that is true all the time, the next video or tease could invert that. One thing I would like see is a variety in male and females clothes, some more skimpy and some less and at least 4 body types to both genders.

I think CP should tell the story it wants to tell. Political correctness is often the enemy of art. Anyone somehow offended by this can hit Kickstarter and build his or her own game. The trailer is awesome. Can't wait for the game.

CDPR will not escape criticism for sure, so they shouldn't be too obsessed with pleasing everyone.

In terms of oversexualization as a feature of the setting. It shouldn't be too difficult, as long as they do it with both genders (so if there's female nudity, male nudity should also be there) AND have characters of both genders who are obviously more than that. So really, it's not difficult, the important thing is not to have important characters ooze with sex for its own sake without much else going on for them.

I have big faith in the writing, so let them focus on aesthetics and design to make sure that both genders are oversexualized when warranted.

Eventually you came to think she was a escort lady or a prostitute.

I actually thought she was trying to imitate that celebrity that was shown, it's a similar outfit. It's pretty revealing of what kind of world it is, with celebrity worship and people changing everything about themselves to be more like their heroes (some even live their memories because of how crap their lives are).

As for the color white, I think it may symbolize lost innocence, with the blood splatter.

Or she was just, you know, sleeping or cuddling with a lover in her apartment when the cyberpsychosis hit her, so she just forgot to give a fuck about what she was wearing because her brain wasn't working too properly or at all, while she's looking for someone to kill in the middle of a night.

Dammit Gregski that was gonna be my Avatar! *shakes fist*

Her top seems formal, like something to wear clubbing, but then she has nothing but panties on below, so I'm a bit confused by her attire. I'm guessing there's a longer narrative here that we'll get more of in future teasers.

I so was expecting the thread to go the other way. Already the comments of every game site are filled with people that are taking up the banner of feminism, either because they've been convinced a woman character in a film/game is being exploited if she doesn't act like a man or if anything even slightly sexual is going on, or because its easy to troll in those threads. I was worried this would be more of the same!

Right on point. Cyberpunk was always a hyper-sexual setting in some ways. It is a world of extremes, everything is done to extremes. This is at least one setting where its appropriate for both men and women to be decadent or scantily clad. I totally get some complaints about treating women as sex objects in games, most fighting games are fairly bad about this for example, but this at least is a setting where its to be expected, and not just of the women but the men too.

Or she was just, you know, sleeping or cuddling with a lover in her apartment when the cyberpsychosis hit her, so she just forgot to give a fuck about what she was wearing because her brain wasn't working too properly or at all, while she's looking for someone to kill in the middle of a night.
And my favorite comment in this thread :) It is funny how a lot of people, including the ones that are 'defending women' by complaining about this sort of thing, instantly assume it must be something sexual just because she is in panties and a tank top. Just shows where their minds are.

Anyways, I hope that CD Projekt doesn't compromise the style of CP2020 just to make a few people happy.

I also hope that one day some people learn there is a difference between a woman who is strong and a woman who acts like a man, and that there isn't anything inherently wrong with a woman appearing in a sexual manner. No, you don't want a woman to be an object or perceived as an object (unless that's actually the character, which can happen appropriately sometimes), but you don't want to completely suppress a woman's sexuality either.

To be frank, that last paragraph applies about men as well. There are an awful lot of muscle bound frat types as main characters, and its a bit annoying sometimes. It totally is appropriate sometimes though, so its not like you shouldn't be allowed to do that for a character. Sexism, like racism, is one of those things where 'equality' can turn into 'preferential treatment' if you aren't careful.

No matter what, someone will complain, so just be true to your story and setting and leave it at that.

Queue the personal attacks that I'll promptly ignore...

I'm pretty liberal and I like erotic elements in games, but I don't want to see penises nor vaginas presented for erotic purposes in the games. It's ok to show penis if someone is laying on operating table or something like that, but I'm not a fan of penises in raging erections and wet pussies in games. ;)

Actually on that note, I think it would be fantastic if they did a trailer with the woman, now a cop, arresting someone. Even better if the perp happens to be a scantily clad man with soulful eyes and a carrot red mo-hawk. :)

There is definitely a difference between making all the female (and only the female) characters in a game wander around in extremely revealing clothing and allowing all characters to dress according to their own needs or whims.
Showing that dressing provocatively is a display of attitude (especially in a cyberpunk setting) and not availability is the key here I think.

Indeed indeed. I will like to see as the gameplay as well much variety to. :) but in 4 types of genders. Oh yeah have you ( i bet ) seeing the APB customization?...this game should have something close or better than that, because real talk besides the game lacks for lags and other bad stuff. The customization of that game is marvelous

Ignore the complaints about hypersexualization. Most of them are coming from grandstanding moralists looking for attention, and seeking to prove that they are more socially conscious than the rest of us heathens. I know, and so does CDPR, that many of these same complainers will also be buying and playing the game. The rest of us should just enjoy the cornucopia of chrome-laced T&A presented to us and not feel guilty about acknowledging our very human desires.

You know, suppressing your humanity is a good way to develop a psychosis, so consider embracing The Sexy, as a form of therapy.
