Papa Emhyr [Spoilers]

Papa Emhyr [Spoilers]

Please be aware that this happens after Blood and Wine and after you've finished the main story. I will also go into details about the books, so spoilers.

I should mention that up to this date this doesn't occur without forcing it with console commands. It seems that it is bugged, even if you have the empress ending, Ciri will act like she became a witcher, when she visits you. Nonetheless the dialogue is there.

So if you had the Empress ending and Ciri visit you at your new home, this little dialogue occurs:
Geralt: Anything stopping you?
Cirilla: Obligations, duties. I'm only here because papa, I mean, Emhyr, concluded I must get to know what I'll rule once I take the throne. So I'm on a tour of the provinces with a small swarm of advisors.

What? Papa?

This is the guy, who killed Pavetta, her biological mother.
This is the guy, who ordered to attack Cintra and the North and killed Calanthe, her grandmother, with that.
This is the guy, who caused Ciri to have nightmares her whole life.
This is the guy, who caused that Ciri had this shitty life up until now.
This is the guy, who caused every near-death situation for her.
This is the guy, who ordered to kill Geralt and Yennefer, her forster parents.
This is the guy, who wanted to marry Ciri, fuck and impregnate her, so she could give him a new heir.

Without him she would be still living in Cintra with her mother and grandmother, living maybe a boring life, but a good and happy one. One without any worries.

He is the very reason why Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri had to suffer so much during the whole saga and now she calls him Papa?

I know the game version of Emhyr is a bit different and not only that, for example fake-ciri is missing completely despite the fact that Emhyr will even have children with her, if I remember correctly, but don't nail me on this now.

Working with Emhyr was a necessary evil to find Ciri and I never disliked the empress ending, I always thought it was a valid and reasonable alternative to the witcheress ending. "She gets what she deserves" that's exactly what she get by Emhyr, she is the new empress. Fair enough, but I never suspected that this will change anything regarding who Ciri's real parents are: Geralt and Yennefer.

If the game had given me the opportunity to put my sword into Emhyr's heart, I would have done it within two heartbeats, because of what he did in the books to them, but since they changed him a bit, I hold my grudge back and it worked out just fine.

You think I am overreacting? Let's see what Ciri herself says about her "Papa" after she learned that he ordered to kill Geralt and Yennefer in The Lady of the Lake:

‘I don’t understand,’ Ciri spluttered like an angry cat, ‘I don’t see why I should go with him! Why? Where are you going?’
‘My daughter,’ Yennefer said quietly. ‘This is your destiny. You’ll see, it cannot be otherwise.’
‘And you?’
‘Us,’ Yennefer looked at Geralt, ‘a different destiny awaits us. Nor can it be otherwise. Come to me, my daughter. Hold me tight.’
‘They want to kill you! I will not allow it! After all, we have only just been reunited! This is not fair!’
‘He who lives by the sword,’ Emhyr var Emreis said dully,’ dies by the sword. They both fought with me and lost. But they lose with dignity.’
Ciri, in three steps stood before him, Geralt silently gasped. He heard Yennefer sigh. Bloody hell, he thought, anyone can see it! Everyone in the Black Ones army will see it! The same attitude, the same sparkling eyes, the same gesture with her mouth, the way she crosses her arms over her chest. Fortunately she inherited her mother’s ashen mane. But even so, those who aren’t blind can see whose blood she is.
You,’ Ciri said, directing an angry look at Emhyr. ‘You won. And you think you won with dignity?
Emhyr var Emreis did not respond. He just smiled and eyed the angry girl. Ciri clenched her teeth.
So many dead, so many dead for this end? And they lost with honour? Death is an honour? Only a beast would think so. I have looked at death up close and have not become a beast. And it will never happen.
He did not answer. He looked at her, seeming to drink her in.
‘I know,’ she hissed, ‘what you are up to. What you want to do with me. I’ll tell you now – I will not let you touch me. And if you do … I’ll kill you. Even if tied up. When you sleep, I’ll bite through your throat …
The Emperor with a quick gesture silenced the murmuring of his officers.
‘This will happen,’ he drawled, not taking his eyes from Ciri, ‘as intended. Say goodbye to your friends, Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon.’
Ciri looked at the witcher, Geralt made a dismissive motion with his head. The girl sighed. She hugged Yennefer and whispered together for a long time. Ciri then approached Geralt.
‘A pity,’ she said quietly. ‘It seemed that everything was beginning to improve.’
‘It seemed to be so,’ said the witcher.
They embraced.
‘Be brave.’
He will not have me,’ she whispered. ‘He will not have me, don’t worry. I will escape him. I know a way …
‘Do not kill him. Remember, Ciri. You cannot!’
‘Fear not, I didn’t even think about it. You know, Geralt, I’ve had enough of killing. There has been all too much.’
‘Too much. Goodbye, witcheress.’
‘Goodbye, witcher.’
‘Don’t cry.’
‘That is easy for you to say.’

and after this she calls him Papa?

Through the main game she was always very skeptical towards Emhyr, even angry and pissed. That reflected exactly what she was suppose to be, but how in the world did the Empress ending changed all of that?

I understand that those, who haven't read the books, probably can't understand this, but she threatens to bite through his throat, if he dares to lay a finger on her. Think a second about that sentence and then remind yourself that she calls him Papa...

Actually, without him she wouldn't be living anywhere, because she wouldn't have been even born.

*rolleyes* Technically you're correct, the best kind of correct, but I hope you get what I meant, actually :)

He could have gone back to Nilfgaard leaving Ciri and Pavetta alone. Then come back with his army and give them the options to surrender or fight. He simply act without caring about anyone except himself and this lead to all those awful things.

They probably did this so a lot more people favor the Witcheress ending. The true ending

I actually think the Empress ending is a valid alternative, there is nothing wrong with it. Sure, it isn't the greatest wish by Ciri. She wants to be a witcher, but it made sense that she can become the empress, she is the rightful heir to Emhyr. She was born as princess.

But isn't B&W empress dialog bugged? Maybe they themselves bugged it when they find out that it's so OOC :D

True, but as you said it seems more like a bug than cut out. If you had the empress ending, you get Ciri as a witcher, that doesn't seem right at all, but it would confirm that they didn't tested it, because they don't like it either? :D

Yeah, it's stupid and cringey, but like it's the case with some other similar occasions in the game, over the time I stopped caring so much about all the stuff I'm never going to see or experience in any of my playthroughs, anyway... Like our bro Regis says: "Out of sight, out of mind." :) What I actually got left me 100% satisfied.

Well, I haven't seen it either, but imagine you took the empress ending, because you thought it was just fine and then read afterwards in the books that she hates him like the pest, that she is willing to bite through his throat for what he has done and might do in the future.

Sure, I could just say "whatever, not in my playthrough", but what I am suppose to talk about then, if I like everything else? :p

No need to explain that to me, that degenerate never survived or have even seen Ciri in any of my 5 playthroughs.

Emhyr is a complex character who is not entirely black, he has good sides and bad sides, otherwise he would be totally boring. About the planned incest, do not forget that it was a common practice in aristocratic families to keep the blood line 'pure'. I'm not saying this to defend this practice, nor agree with it, I just mention how things were back then. I think that would be fair to take as well into account all Emhyr's decisions, not only the bad ones, ie (in the book) parental feelings and voice of blood have won at the end and he let Ciri go.

''The Nilfgaardians in salamander cloaks looked on silently. And amazed. Some had seen her on the stairs covered in blood, had seen her talking with the Emperor. A witcheress with a sword, who was defying the Emperor himself. And now they were stunned, seeing a simple girl crying and sobbing.
She was aware of their gazes. Their eyes were burning like fire, prickling her skin. She struggled, but to no avail. The more she tried to restrain herself, the more she cried.
She slowed and then stopped. The escort also stopped. But only for a moment. A grouchy officer grabbed her with iron hard hands under her arms. Ciri glanced over her shoulder again. She offered no resistance. But wailed louder, more desperate. The Emperor, Emhyr var Emreis stopped, this dark man whose face had awakened strange and confusing memories. With a sharp order, he ordered he loose. Ciri sniffed and wiped her eyes with her sleeve. Seeing the Emperor approach he stifled a sob and proudly raised her head. Although at the time she realise how ridiculous she must look. Emhyr watched her for a long time. Without a word. Then he approached and reached for her.
Ciri, whose reactions to such movements were to instinctively recoil, did not react this time to her surprise. Even greater was her surprise to find that the contact with this man was not distasteful.
He touched her hair, as if to count the snowy strings. He touched her cheek, his fingertips running along the old scar. Then he hugged her, cuddling her close to his chest, stroking the back of her head. And she, shaking and crying uncontrollably, let him.

''A strange thing, fate...''- she heard him whisper faintly. ''Goodbye, my daughter.''

***
‘What did he say?’
Ciri’s face clouded.
‘He said, Va Fail, luned. In the elder speech – Goodbye, my daughter.’
‘I know,’ Yennefer nodded. ‘What happened then?’
‘Then... Then he let me go, he turned around and walked away. He shouted orders. And they all left''...

Best point of view :like:
It does not help to get angry about this or that over and over again.
Just enjoy what we have

It's just bad writing, I notice two things when books are 'adapted' one I will call 'fan'ficiton, the other is continuity amnesia. Some writers when writing an adaption (game, movie etc) will get a bit 'power' crazy and insert what they wanted to happen in the books into their adaption, at the direct cost of continuity, I call this fan-fiction. The second, continuity amnesia, is when a writer either forgets about what happened in the books and simply adds 'logical' filler into the adaptation, or, the writer is not as familiar with the continuity of the books as they should be and cause a mistake of continuity in their adaption. I think that the latter takes place at CDProjekt. I don't think the writers are as familiar with the books as they claim to be.

It's possible Ciri is under orders to call him "Papa" and behave like a loyal daughter in front of everyone at the imperial court.. I can just imagine the Chamberlain following her around reminding her how to speak and behave all the time. Now saying "Papa" has become so much of a habit that she even says it in front of Geralt when none of the courtiers are watching.

Wrong, she told Yen that he said "Goodbye, girl". Who the hell translated that?

It's nothing wrong with the translation, in Elder Speech 'luned' means daughter / young girl, as it's mentioned in Elder Speech translation everywhere on Wiki or here: https://ploughed.dreamwidth.org/1195.html
Now, the translator can use either one or the other word for the translation, but in my opinion the emperor was addressing to her as "luned" with the meaning of 'daughter'.

Yeah... which is why I mercilessly bashed a thread that called Ciri the quintessential modern day heroine and that she should be the focus of the next witcher related franchise. From her looks, to her whole persona the game stinks. It just plain stinks. I can deal with them making Triss their favourite love choice and even giving her red hair as to get your more excited banging her than aubern hair, I can not however deal with the Ciri they sold us. Lookig like a fucking model, fighting in high heels, running from the wild hunt but always having time to apply that god awful eye liner, wearing some skimpy shirt with half her tits hanging out even in the coldest weather. Jesus... it's like the rat Ciri with the mind of 7 year old Ciri and the reasoning of 10 year old Ciri come to live. How the feck has she not developed into a person? How the hell is she a Mary Sue and one that apparently has a deeper emotional connection to an elf that tried to get her raped, a father who killed her mother and tried to rape her and kill her foster parents, some random elves in a circus, some random tavern wench, some ugly dude in a fishing village and a drunk wifebeater?

And of course it makes fucking sense for her to not tell her witcher dad, the dude who slaughtered his way across the continent and back for her and risked his life for her what she is planning and of course she'd never tell her sorceress mother who, to all accounts, is probably the most sophisticated user of magic alive.Yeah fuck them... what do they know and understand? They are so stupid and lame. The elf who wanted me to get raped by a 10.000.000 year old grandpa is way cooler and so is my real dad who killed my mum and grandma and wanted to fuck me. Yeah... go CDPR Ciri. Jesus...

Honestly... this game is great in so many ways but in a pain in the arse in so many other ways when it comes to stuff like that. It seems like halfway through reading the novels to prepare themselves for the story writing they said fuck it and read the cliff notes, probably in google translation from finnish or something.
