Patch 1.23

+
I want to be pleasantly surprised. Tell me, how many pleasant surprises did we get from CDPR over those 6+ months? Name two.
- No more crash at all since over more than 2 months.
- Pretty stable FPS everywhere on the map and in any circonstances.
Knowing that the goal was to optimize/stabilize/fix the game before doing anything else, that seems quite "pleasant" to me. But maybe it's just my poor standards :)

Sorry, but for me that doesn't count as a pleasant surprise. That counts as the bare fucking minimum. A pleasant surprise would be for them to release a giant ton of free DLC now together with the next gen version.

My game has always been pretty stable. On Series X, playing on Performance Mode, i sure had some crashes, but not too many. And slowdowns are barely noticeable. So, all i've been waiting for in the last two+ months is new content - even small, gameplay improvements and, you know, things that could justify another run without feeling like i've already seen it all. As it is, i'm quite happy with my three and a half playthroughs, and i'll give it a shot again when there will be something new to enjoy.

I even used to enjoy photo mode and take a lot of close-up pics of random npcs and story characters, but i can't even do that now, because it's been bugged since patch 1.2, iirc.

Nah, i will just wait for a better time to enjoy Cyberpunk again.

[PC]
I can't wait to see the next-gen patch. The game is more stable than ever, which is definitely satisfying, but the graphics have suffered a downgrade. Shadows are popping-in, some objects have a very low draw distance. It's annoying for high-end PC owners, but on the other hand it's good to see that things are progressing. Keep up the good work!

the crowd density in this part of the map is exaggerated, i get slow frames

@seomid received a red point

It's funny how "haters" want the game to be improved, but "defenders" are arguing that the game is good as it is.

@greeks received a red point - (They don't seem to be working for me the usual way.)

About not meeting expectations, it's not us bad people who always want CP77 to be something that it isn't. Games absence from ps store shows the game didn't meet Sony's or CDPRs expectations too. It's a common misconception that whoever criticizes the game is a hater, while we just want CP77 to be the best it can be.
I hope that it is clear that I was not saying that right ;) Neither am I implying anything about who is a hater or not.

I was simply stating that "meeting expectations" as how it was phrased was never gonna happen for everyone.
But let us not dive too deeply into yet another one of those discussions ;)

With regards to patch 1.23, I've read somewhere just a short while ago that this patch would be the final groundwork required so that CDPR can now also concentrate efforts on more general and/or more interweaved systems and resources the game uses.
Is this true? I've not seen any such statement from them?

There's no indication of work priority being moved to additional content or story/plot/feature enhancement. "Satisfactory" - depends on who you're asking in the user base. Overall, reading the media reports - it just means between the lines that they're happy they got back into the Sony Store, which took them this long - not a great indicator of cadence in their sprints. It really meant it was quite broken but everyone knew that after using it on Console the first time.

Beyond that? Who knows, or cares? Took it off the SSD for now, waiting for 2022.

I liked the game just fine but I also feel like it could have been better too. I think they should have delayed it until 2021 and I think they also were lacking a third act.

The game's main plot takes about 25-30 hours to complete when most RPGs of its length should take at least 40. A Third Act might have been nice.

Probably the most helpful, as it contains the specific feedback the devs are looking for. (They're the ones who coded the crash report to collect exactly that data, after all! ;) )

Ok, thanks.
I will keep sending them.

Because when changes like this are made, it's not as simple as lowerng a single value from 100 to 80 or something. It's usually a matter of completely rewriting the code for certain functions. Telling the engine how to write data to the RAM, and in what order to retrieve it in certain situations...that sort of thing. Once changes this deep are made, it's a terrible idea to take things in one direction on PS4, a totally separate direction on Xbox, and a totally separate direction on PC. If I do, every subsequent change will have to be handled differently on every different system. Before long, you'll basically need three completely separate studios to manage the three completely different ways the game is being designed.

Thus, patches will be made universally. In this case, changes to the rendering system will be a general attempt to more efficiently handle things, across the board. It's the same type of thing as, say, adding ray-tracing functionality to a game. I'm not going to write 3, totally different ray-tracing packages -- one for PS4, one for XBX, and one for PC. I'm going to write one, universal system that works on all platforms, then tweak them a little here and there as needed. If there's a major issue only on PS4, I'm not going to rebuild it from the ground up just for PS4, I'm going to edit the core functionality to try to get it working on PS4 without changing it too much for XBX and PC.

So the game is at the end not a port from a certain platform to another, it seems.

I had hope for the PC-Version, because they are working on the XBSX / PS5 Version of the game, which should look and perform better, than on the old-gen's, but now I wonder what improvements they will implement, for the new-gen's.

I just checked what it sends and if you press the "what info is beeing sent" link on the crashreporter it shows all the files it sends. Seems like its a bit more then i thought but looks too be mostly info about what was running when the crash happend. Processes and so on. Just glanced over it but meta data and so me stuff.

Fingers crossed, that it will make at least a difference, sending them the reports.

That's not true and you know it.

This kind of divisive stuff right here is the problem with the entire narrative surrounding Cyberpunk 2077, it's almost like one can't hold a nuanced view of the situation without being lumped into one camp or the other.

In fact, most of the people appreciating what CDPR managed to do right with Cyberpunk 2077 are also participating in the 1.2 Ongoing Bugs List leaving feedback and reporting issues through the proper channels.

Same here, but I can also name two:

They improved the driving and the performance of the game for me personally, and I've been reading that people have a much more stable experience on the first gen modern consoles.

Also in the last interview they said that the stability of the game is satisfactory so they can now focus more on the gameplay mechanics and systems that people have been complaining about.

I'm surprised they're willing to tackle all of that now and not in a traditional sequel (Witcher 1 combat -> Witcher 2 combat -> Witcher 3 combat).

So yeah that's a peasant surprise or two for me.

The press with their click bait headlines and players jumping at any nonsense they peddle as truth have caused real damage and hindered the progress of the game more than helped. I've seen many players on here decide that Satisfied means finished because of it and grow despondent and that's just not what he said at all

That is obviously people who actively play the game. I suppose there are many people like me who want the full experience, so they decided to shelve the game and observe it's development over time. Each and every single little patch and hotfix i am aware of, I test whether I am happy with it and decide to either forget about it for the next few weeks or start playing.
Does it mean I'm a hater if i don't want to alpha/beta test what i paid for?
See if it wasn't for statements such as "released when ready" there would be more neutral ground to work with. If i was told the game isn't ready yet, I wouldn't expect to get a full copy of it. I would've entered Night City with a totally different mindset. I likely wouldn't have bought it on day 1 from their own platform too, to show as much support as humanly possible. I've really tried to give my best, unfortunately i was unpleasantly surprised.

All right, enough with the general complaints. If you post here you need to stay on topic, or your posts will start getting deleted.

My thoughts exactly! (y)
Patch 1.23 is not perfect. In fact, I've been reporting issues that were present in previous versions of the game. But it's a step in the right direction.

It sure is a step in the right direction. But isn't that the nature of all patches anyway? That's kinda like saying the patch is good because it isn't bad. I'm interested to know how many steps are needed for CP77 to become what it should. Do you recon it's doable before 2.0?

The patch made the PC version worse. A LOT more glitches now. I had to turn it off. CD Projekt Red, DO BETTER! The Sandra Dorsset scene in the beginning of the game had her flopping around all over the place.
