PBEM Campaign - Suhiira - Characters and Discussion

 Administrivia Time

@kabukiman1973 and @Durzo_Steelfin , looks like we're down to the two of you, this pretty much limits you to "petty crime" since anything more significant is going to require skills and firepower you can't muster.

I think we've established that Gremlin is a fixer/techie who finds jobs and sets up a surveillance/communications base for them. Unless things go seriously wrong he'll never be directly involved with whatever you're doing. I can always bring back Chita for extra firepower (she's good at stealth and immediate area recon as well) but what else do you two think you'd need, in terms of skill sets, before you'd be comfortable with more complex/"significant" jobs?

I'm just fine with the two of you (plus Gremlin) but I want to give you the option to get involved in something "more interesting".

Thoughts?

What comes to mind is someone more specialized in espionage than the current crew. Rodick and Hernando are "ok" at picking locks, and when it comes to getting into places or dealing with people in manners that dont involve kicking them in the face- Rodick has issues. We have the basic skills to do those things, but not exceptionally well.

I think if we were going to scout for someone else for field work, we would be looking for a field Techie. Someone who can come with us to assist with bypassing securities and dealing with any malfunctions that may pop up along the way.

Aside from the "Who would we seek if we needed an additional hand" question, on the topic of "if we need a hand" I'm personally fine with just the two of us, but I'm curious and interested in what we could get up to if we had more.

Like Durzo said, my char can pick easy locks but he is supposed to be an hacker not an infiltrator. I suppose some chips with other skills could help. Or a hybrid char like the covert tech or the covert op specialist from the firestorm book.

Guys: I had a problem: my hard drive died. That means I lost all the info about my character and worst, the corrector that my computer had (I'm using a laptop that doesn't have an english corrector, and God knows I reaaaaally need one).

@kabukiman1973 if you check post #13 in this thread it's the character origional sheet for Hernando (minus any skill improvements since we started). As to the spell checker ... we'll live.

Ok, so I had finally the time to read the past adventures to see how many Ip's I have spend before loosing my computer. So I had earn a total of 12 IP's. With the 50, it's 62.
So, I'm spending 20 IP's to increase pick lock to 3. Then I'm spending another 30 IP's to increase it to 4. And I'l keep the 12 IP for another ocasion.
Money: You give me the chance to keep the money that I had spend in software. With the money I didn't spend and what I earn in the other missions it's about 5000 Eb.
Is this correct?

Oh, I didn't remember that.
So, I spend 20 IP's to increase lock pick 2 to 3, 30 IP's to increase from 3 to 4, 40 IP's to increase from 4 to 5.
Spend 30 IP to increase stealth,
Spend 10 IP to increase driving
I still get 7 IP's.
Is this correct?

Ok, I-l post a new sheet just to be safe in case something happens in my computer :p:p:p

Hernando is the son of Mexican emigrants. He was very smart, and entered in a gang when he was 12; he loved computers and thanks to his knowledge, his gang could enter places that they shouldn’t get access. With the money he earned, he bought a deck. After the death of his leader, he abandoned the gang; with the money he had, he decide to go to college, but without the money and contacts he couldn’t. So he had to accept to work in subcontracts to make cheap versions of famous programs. But at night, he used to make runs to see if he could find something that would help him to improve his life.
And one he got his chance: a fixer got him a job with a Japanese girl and some other dude. They didn’t finish the mission, but they provoked a crash in the local net; in the next few days, several companies started to hiring runners afraid of being attacked and Hernando got a job. And well payed. He was even able to get a girlfriend, a girl who lost her job after her company had suffered with the disaster.

Deck: standard deck (EBM PNI 210) from chrome book 3, costs 1000 eb with 0 speed, 10 MU, Data walls 2 and 0 options. I choose black color.

Former gang: Brainiacs.
Lifepath: I decide that they were poor Mexicans. My parents died in an accident. Family status is ok. I grew in a decade once upper class zone. 3 Siblings. 2 boys, one girl. One of the boys is older, the other are youngers. The girl is neutral, both boys worship me.
I’m intellectual and detached. I valued one parent. I value power. I hate almost everyone. My favorite possession is a jewel (probably from my parent). That makes sense. I loved my parents, they died, I stopped liking people (maybe I still like my brothers, after all they love me).
Life events
16-I made an enemy from work. He hates me because I make him loose face me but he can’t do much about it and he is alone. His parents are from an archology. So maybe he was a member of the gang but never had much support.
17- I made a friend male. He is like a foster parent to me; he is from a gang family.
18-Nothing happened (I’m finishing school, so my life is dull)
19- I suffered a hit, and I lost money 200eb; books are probably expensive
20- Nothing happened
21- I made another friend (male). He is like a big brother; he is from a corporate background. Maybe he is the guy who gets me the subcontracts

As soon as he receives his new paycheck, can he buy some extra implants?

He can buy anything he likes (and can find).

Just remember NEW implants (in my version of CP2020) automatically start at max humanity loss. Which goes down by one per week till it's at 1/2 max. Then one per month till it reaches minimum humanity loss. This shouldn't be much of an issue UNLESS you have a low EMPATHY, or a ton of cyberware already. Takes a little time to get use to/comfortable with your body mods.

While the lockpicking could certainly be handy keep in mind the OOC discussion a while back. Gremlins niece is joining the team as a "field" tech (as opposed to Gremlins "repair/command" tech) so probably has good B&E skills but lacks in actual repair/upgrading ones.

Ok, so what kind of skills are better to increase instead of pick lock? More stealth and electronic security?
She'll cover Electronic Security probably.
Stealth is always good, combat skills maybe? Talon could sure use some back-up.

Rodik will be spending spending 50 IP:

Handgun/SMG 4 -> 5 for 20 IP
Streetwise 2 -> 3 for 20 IP

Should leave him with 13 left over to bank for next time.

Rodik will also buy a new box of M. SMG [30eb] ammo and replace his retractable climbing spikes [75eb].

That would make his new skill sheet look like:

Stats:
7 Int
7 (8-1) Ref
4 Tech
4 Cool
4 Attr
3 Luck
8 (6+2) MA
6 (5+1) Body
5 (7-2) EMP

Career Skills:
7 Combat Sense
4 Awareness/Notice
0 Brawling
0+2 Xing-Chiao (3)
1 Null Boxing
0 Melee/Fencing (.5)
0 Weapons Tech
0 Rifle (.5)
2 Athletics (2)
5 Handgun/SMG (.5)
3 Stealth (2)

Pickup Skills:

I didn't realize Talon was a bird watcher.

Also with only one Chipware Socket you can only have one of your five chips active at a time you realize.

She probably has Electronic Security too (since it's necessary for high-end B&E).
Stealth is always useful, but it's ENTIRELY up to you what skills you take/improve.

Yeah, Rodik has a particular fondness for birds. That's also why he has the "Eagle Eye" Shift Tacts and a picture of a Golden Eagle across the back of his Armored Jacket.

I was unaware of that. My understanding was that the Chipware Sockets cyberware provided 10 slots, with a maximum amount active equal to your INT stat. Is that incorrect?
