Hernando leaves the group and try to find Mouse to see if he had more luck (anyway, he got some information now: the place is well guarded).

(( Well guarded and anyone that has actual access to anything meaningful is from a small, very "insider" group. ))

You eventually find Mouse playing an archaic "Pong" game with some Asian guy.
Interrupt or watch/listen for a moment?

"Damn bro, that sounds like bullshit, you mean no matter how long ya work there ya got no shot at an indoor job?" Mouse says while frantically twisting the knob that controls the games "paddle".

"Near as I can tell. Only those guys that come in from China get the jobs, seems like they hire 'em over there then ship 'em here to work. Guess anyone not actually 'Made in China' ain't Chinese enough for 'em."

"Two person game Mano." Says Mouse. "Want to take on the winner?"

Mouse seems to be indicating (s)he's pretending (s)he doesn't know you.

Mouse continues playing ... intentionally losing?

"So why take a job that ain't never gonna get better? They pay really good or sumthin?"

"Naw ... gotta eat ya know. And they ain't all that picky about who they hire for stevedores. Get the work done, don't break nuthin, ya get paid."

Hernando pretends to be just bored, waiting for his turn. So he looks better at the place.

As mentioned, this floor (ground level) is food courts, cashiers (for trading credit for tokens since most of the machines on this floor require tokens to play ... way to old to have a credchip slot), presumably an office, and OLD video game machines. Security, in terms of bouncers and cams, is fairly tight, the games on this floor are real antiques and probably worth a fair bit.

The crowd on this floor (other then those eating) is mostly older ... the younger crowd is generally on the upper floor with the modern games.

Just by looking it's virtually impossible to determine who might be an Eastern Star employee ... well ... maybe steel-toed boots? Any Eastern Star security may have a uniform, or a jacket at the very least, but may not wear it off property, as to office types ... who knows. The only real clue you've gotten is many come from China itself ... so may be less proficient in American.

Looks like it'll be your turn to play soon ... Mouse may be throwing the game, but never having played anything like it before you may just get your ass flat-out beat ... no VR goggles ... no controller ... just a knob you have to twist back and forth.

In a near panic you suddenly realize something ... this game requires a token to play ... you don't have any ...

Hernando leaves for a moment and go buy some tokens (just a couple).

When Hernando returns the Eastern Star guy is waiting for you and Mouse isn't to be seen.

You slot your token (as challenger it's of course your obligation to pay for the game) and get your ass beat ... not because your opponent is THAT good ... but because you're that bad ... a game you've never played before with controls you've never used.

Anything you want to try to talk about during the game?
(( Keep it short, or pay for a second game ))

Ref 8 + Luck 5 + 1d10(4) = 17
((Since I'll assume you don't plan a 3rd game you may as well use all your luck now))

By dint of good reflexes and luck Hernando manages to pull off a victory!

Since Hernando isn't asking about his work he's more then happy to concentrate on the game ... not that it does him any good ...

"Yeah, damn bots 'n puters took all the jobs a man could do without needin a degree or raisin a sweat. I hear tell taxis use to have real people driving them, and half the things get fixed by other 'bots so even being a tech ain't all that easy."

"Hey Bro ! Long time no see." At this point a Brainiac gang member Hernando sorta knows from the old days (you were never "friends" but you've shared a buzz and a chip or two) walks up.
