[PC] Blood NEVER appears on the sword.

50 hours of playtime on my PC (everything is maxed), and I've never seen blood on a sword once.

I thought it was omitted, but then I just killed a few bandits during a quest on the X1 version and there were bloodstains on the sword.

Maybe in some countries there are several censored elements? Where do you live?

Definitely not censored; US version for both X1 and PC.

Everything is that of a normal version, including all cutscenes.

Same here.

I've no blood on my sword during combats, I don't know if it's bug or just an omission.

Even you have blood splatter to your body, it's only 3 second long, and blood are off.

I didn't even know there was supposed to be blood on swords, I was actually quite upset about it. Can anyone post a screenshot of that please?

I watched some of my earlier recorded videos and I noticed that there is something definitely wrong with blood decals.

The quest where you fight a handful of guys in the White Orchard tavern before leaving for Velen has non-fading and strongly visible blood stains on both Geralt and Vesemir. His armour and sword is stained with blood and the decals even persist in the cutscene where he meets Yennefer for the first time

This video was from day 1 patch. Apparently there has been some problems regarding decals in the later patches. I am surprised as well.

easily overlooked detail I can live without... to be honest the coating of oils would repel blood, and if he had bloody sword you cant sheath it untill you clean it... dont abuse your scabard. but onto the game... I notice some really crazy blood effects once in a while... like pools of blood, or sprays of blood that just turn into clouds that look more like enrage effects. but now that you mention it the blood goes away quite quickly, which corpses dissapear quickly too, I assume its to keep the game running at best quality.

Witcher 2 finishers had an animation where he flings the blood off the sword after executing someone.

And I get the fact that too many decals would probably slow the game down considerably, but this should be at least tweakable in the .ini which it isn't. I didn't buy two 980s to have less decals than the X1 version.

Most likely a job for the modders.

Let's go REDkit.... any day now...

I don't believe it was ever working on the PC version. Personally, I never noticed the console versions had it. Only now that this thread has been begun, I've just started to notice the "splatter" decals that come and go very quickly during combat. Looks like something is definitely up with the blood decals drawing and then immediately fading.

It's curious. I don't personally care one way or the other, but I wonder how and why this isn't working for PC. Seems simple enough to implement, but I don;t think that even mods have addressed this yet. It must be something on par with the NPC pop-in issue.

I have wondered about this a lot too, especially since the mechanic is in the game but it was very poorly implemented. Only very occasionally I can see blood on Geralt's armor, but if you blink, you will miss it.
I don't know...maybe the devs thought it didn't work well so they intended for it not to appear at all - that is the impression I am getting.
It is one of those weirdly mysterious things which is puzzling...and remains unfixed.

I don't get a whole lot of blood on me, but I think that's more a result of getting hit. I try very hard not to be hit at all and am largely successful. Love taking down massive enemies without a scratch. (And playing on B&BB or DM sort of requires this, to an extent.)

As for the blood on the sword -- it's likely something small that would take hundreds of man-hours to fix. There are times when I have absolutely no idea how this engine works. It's got some serious muscles, but its kung-fu is strange...
