PC Crashed. Backups?

I was playing The Witcher (first one), and my PC crashed. Not even CPR could bring it back. Sadly, I had no backup. Nobody's fault but my own. Admittedly, I just could not bring myself to start over. So instead, I just recently ordered The Witcher2 Enhanced Edition! I have yet to receive it; but, in the interim, I am wondering, is there a way to backup any saved games? It looks like it can be done online (if I searched the forum correctly); but, I would rather do it on my own, and locally. I always do not have an internet connection, especially when I travel. Is there a folder or some other information I could just copy over onto an USB drive?

Thanks for any help you can provide, and sorry if this has already been asked, and I did not see the response via search.

Thanks. :)

For the non-Steam version, the savegames are in Documents/The Witcher/saves for TW1 and in Documents/Witcher 2/gamesaves for TW2. You can copy those folders wherever you want.

Thank you!!!! Very much appreciated.

BTW, What is Steam version, and how could I tell if I had it? Admittedly, I am not a heavy gamer. I was looking at Skyrim, and stayed away from it, as on Amazon, so many users complained that it never worked. It appeared to me to be an authentication system to ensure the games were legit; but, the ones who purchased it, said it did not always work, and a internet connection was needed, which I always do not have. When I ordered TWEE2 (can't wait!), I do not recall seeing anything about Steam. Maybe I missed it?

Nope, didn't miss it. :) If you bought a physical copy of the game (or bought it from gog.com), it doesn't have anything to do with Steam. You can buy a digital version directly from Steam though, that's why dragonbird mentioned it.

Steam is not that bad, by the way. Unlike other copy protection software, I've never had any trouble with it. It doesn't require you to be always-online, either, you have to be online once, but you can set it to offline mode and use it without internet connection. For me, Steam isn't that much of a hassle that I'd skip a game I want to have because of it. Of course, there's other opinions, but you might at least give it a try and see for yourself.
