PC footage with Day 1 patch?

+
As long as you follow the mods rules set for this then yes, but a lot of people aren't or simply don't understand the rules...
I'm just worried because I've seen it happen elsewhere, but

this post here http://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/365flt/cd_project_red_transparency/

Wasn't breaking any rules either, and was on-topic. It's worrisome, and I don't think the mods are reflecting what CDPR would want.

So I'm not OT: The game will still look good, but considering Marcin's confirmation, I'm hopeful we still get that. Just hoping the blood splatter/effects are cleared up before release if the VGX comparison "confirmation" wasn't true. Are there any other bugs/faults that have arisen since then other than the issue with the blood?

No idea. I would presume there will be slew. If you recall Witcher 2 launch, yeah. Thre will be bugs, the patch is on it's way, it will fix some things and make others worse.

I'm actually cheered at the thought of config modifications we can try. Also SweetFX filters. Regardless of if you like the base game or not, (I was fine with Skyrim at high res textures) I always enjoy seeing what filters can do.

True. But then again, CDPR said they weren't releasing an "EE" because they were "getting it right the first time". Hopefully that means bugs are lacking by comparison.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to SweetFX. The vanilla game, at the moment, looks a little oversaturated to me. What were some of the more notable config modifications we could try? I've seen the configs themselves posted elsewhere but I haven't scanned them in detail.

This exactly. Just how far we will be able to take this game on our own terms is a very exciting prospect. Only time will tell, but I'm already salivating haha.

Sure you're not mistaking it for the IGN stream?-- They gave away several 960s and CD soundtracks.
http://www.ign.com/videos/2015/05/15/exploring-the-witcher-3s-skellige-ign-plays-live

Ah, you must be right... I watched 2 IGN streams, one of them was yesterday, that was the 2nd one, correct.

The one a couple of days ago was the Amazon.com stream. They were giving away discounts to buy TW3. They also played it on the PC. Sorry, GameSpot was probably on XBONE, you might be right. So yeah, I've seen plenty of PC footage and... well, no comment.

So, I'm hearing from others that CDPR has stated somewhere that current PC gameplay should be taken with a grain of salt because it doesn't have the day one patch. Does that mean the D1 Patch holds they key to shutting up the downgrade train?

Honestly no body knows but the Devs, personally i cant see the Day1 patch having a massive graphical update.

I don't really care if it shuts down the train. I'll enjoy the game nevertheless. But I know it won't. Day 1 patches do not bring such improvements to graphical fidelity.

It was with reference to one particular video that's caused a lot of the current uproar. I don't know if it'll shut up the downgrade train or not, as different people have different reasons for thinking there's a downgrade.

Here's what we know so far.

We never switched the textures. On pc, you now have the option to activate "Ultra" quality textures with the full resolution. However, the difference that many people see with new and old footage was a strong sharpening filter in 2013 that looks awesome on screenshots and in short videos, but strains the eyes after a short while if there is a lot of movement (leaves and grass swaying in the wind as an example). That's why it was decided to tone that effect down. However, people who really want to have it can of course use the Redkit to change the environment settings. It's just a matter of taste.

Sorry I should of said after this - HE SAID this was from the PC VERSION. He did NOT STATE that this was the FINAL PC VERSION.

And also - if you read this article - He posted this: http://www.dsogaming.com/news/cd-pr...-details-differences-between-these-platforms/

As Marcin noted, the differences between the PC and the PS4 version will be:

– draw distance
– framerate
– resolution
– exclusive features such as hairworks

Everything seems to be leading that the PC version should be able to hit the 2013 / e3 2014 video quality. HOWEVER no one has seen this in the past few weeks. The only video I can find that looks better than what we've been seeing is Angryjoe's preview build gameplay. Which is.. .here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJpWBMH9EtQ - BUT even this has lower texture quality, and before anyone jumps on the youtube bandwagon. I understand YT compression, yada yada yada. HOWEVER, the 2013 / e3 2014 videos are all on youtube and they still look better.

And once and for all - They don't like the term downgrade, because some don't believe the 2013 / e3 2014 videos were actually true IN GAME footage (DESPITE it saying it was) ... and then some also believe you are able to get those settings back with a few options in game. that is why the term downgrade is not correct in this sense. And if you want another final proof on that one, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IU9rlkCOk9E -

First 5 minutes explains it all.

The end. It comes down to - if you pre-ordered it and hate the recent footage, I would cancel it - wait for the first few weeks, see what INI tweaks can take place and see where the game goes from there.

so...

We've seen the PC version with Ultra textures in IGN and Amazon streams. They look nothing like the 2013 shots.
Marcin saying it'll be possible to achieve 2013 visuals in the PC version is not true. We've seen the game running Ultra settings and it's nowhere near that level.

And yeah, the only difference, by that last comment made by Marcin are draw distance and HairWorks. According to that, everything else is same as consoles. Resolution and framerate are not a PC feature btw, every PC game can run at higher resolution and framerate than console counter parts.

Nothing seems to lead me to believe that the PC version will look like the 2013/2014 shots. I've seen hours of PC gameplay in the last 2-3 days and there's no way 2013/2014 are even possible with a patch. No way.

If the only differences between the PC and PS4 are better draw distance, resolution and hairworks features then obviously the game has been seriously downgraded. The PS4 could never render something that looks anywhere near as good as the 2013 trailer, even at low resolution.

Also I find it funny that they don't like the word downgrade but instead want to say "optimized", even though both words mean the exact same thing.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm as disappointed as all of you - if what we've seen is the finished product (in terms of graphics)

I'm just stating this is all we have to go on, OTHER THAN the pc videos you have been seeing thie past couple weeks. My only take from this is... if this isn't the truth - why would they be saying it? Especially this close to a release? BUT on the flip side is... why would they be allowing these streams of "PC ULTRA" to be appearing and giving their game a poor representation a few days before release, because I know of MANY who have already cancelled their pre-orders...

All these questions I have no answers to, I"m just sharing what I have documented over that past few days from CDPR Reps/Devs

Honestly, I don't know what to think of the way CDPR has handled the PC version of this game.

On one hand, they've spent the last year carpet bombing us with hours of PC footage, I don't think I've ever seen a AAA game put itself out there like that. And with the way its come back to bite them with all the downgrade discussion I'd be surprised if they ever do it again. On the flip side, you have them suddenly not sending out PC review code until post launch, the refusal to show off KB+M controls, and never showing off full ultra settings with gameworks... even in that IGN video HBAO, hairworks, light shafts and even AA are toggled off. Just doesnt add up.

Look at it this way, if the day 1 patch miraculously made the PC version that much better, would CDPR go to IGN and run 2 long streams using the PC version showing off an inferior build just a few days before the launch?

Well the words that you quoted above pretty much confirm that the game will look almost exactly the same as the PS4 version, which means that all the PC Ultra videos show exactly how the game will look on release - a day one patch won't change anything. The graphics won't be even close to the 2013 footage.

Once again. So in agreement with you. :D I was honestly just stating what we know for fact. At least, what they have ACTUALLY told us. :D I agree man. I have 0 idea why they have decided to go this route.

But I'm just posting EVERYTHING that has been said, so you can make your final judgement (well that is until the actual PC game is released).

They aren't showing KB+M and hairworks because they're still optimizing those. They haven't sent out PC review codes for the same reason.

Yes, I read all of that. But higher-res textures or the sharpening filter won't bring back the graphics from 2013. The smoke effects, particles, geometry and so on - all of that has been seriously downgraded. Just watch the Rage and Steel trailer and look how the burning house looks compared to the VGX trailer.
