[PC] Installation Error -10: File reading error [RETAIL DISK]

Okay I received my copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and as I went to install the game. Installation hasn't even reached 1% as far as I can tell and I receive this pesky error. I've closed the setup, re-inserted the disk and tried again.

Same. Error.

Here is an image of the error which I'm descrbing:

This is really difficult because in New Zealand, our internet is piss poor, and I would really love to play this game. And downloading via GOG isn't all too tempting to me at this moment.

I would appreciate it if someone could give me a hand with this. I've sent a support ticket as well.

Thank you in advance! :)

I have got the same problem. the problem starts on disc 3. I tried copying all the files from the disk to the hard drive but it doesn't work. It keeps popping the message "disc is not readable". I cleaned the disc but it doesn't help. This is really frustrating since I brought the retail version so I don't have to waste time downloading. just install and play.

i seem to be stuck in the same boat.. this is the error message i get, the same as OP

however, when i try the suggested solution from the cdprojektred forums - copying the files from the disk to a folder on the hard drive, then running the exe from there, i get the same problem.

and yes, i notice the considerable amount of time it has been for this thread to have no solution or response, so where do i get a refund?

It would certainly seem to be a faulty disc, in which case all you can do is return it to the place of purchase for a replacement or alternatively use the game key to download it from gog.com/galaxy.

Not ideal for sure, but about the only other things I could think of trying would be:
-Try another optical drive in the hope the disc isnt totally screwed
-Disable any antivirus you have installed in case it's somehow blocking the read and ensure theres enough free space on destination drive, as the error message suggests
