It was already hinted by PCGamesHardware the optimization is pretty amazing. I guess whatever one thinks about the downgrade, they at least made a very solid engine with great optimization. I'm actually quite happy I haven't ordered my 970 yet, guess the good ol' Sandy Bridge i5 and my 760 will be just fine - even though it's kinda agonizing to watch my fiancé's PC being more powerful than my machine (first time for eight years ...). ;)

I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever have to upgrade my Sandy again. I think that was probably the best hardware I've ever bought in terms of price/performance. :)

It depends when the "lowest 12" hits and for how long, doesn't it?

Average is 40fps.... Cant really predict where the game might have hit 12.
But this is a big news considering how ACU was optimised for pc.

Uh. I honestly don't want to be bursting anyone's bubble here, but. If his testing is limited to that Kaer Morhen location, as shown in the video. I wouldn't even remotely call that an accurate representation of what your average frame rate is going to be.

That's a fairly light looking area. In terms of processing requirements. It's small, walled off, and your not on the move.

It could be very different 'out and about'. So to speak. I'm only giving my own take.

I suggest you watch the entire video. And have patience brother. It will save you time later.

We have some pretty decent first impressions by PCGames Hardware too, which most certainly have not benchmark'ed in such a non-representative way. They are, after all, specialized on that stuff.

I had watched around half way through the two minute video, and he was still in Kaer Morhen. So I wrongly assumed too much. I stand corrected. He does indeed go outside in the last bit lol

Yeah, in this case. As I mention above. But, a lot of the sites that have been showing preview performance thus far. Have been showing footage that looked glitchy, graphically. Which very well could be affecting results. So I've been hesitant to take it with more than the proverbial salt grain. Until the drivers + patch, etc.

I'll trust my own fraps counter lol.

Can you post the link to those impressions here brother?

Sure thing, it's in German though: http://www.pcgameshardware.de/The-Witcher-3-PC-237266/Specials/Technik-Test-1158845/

To give you the short version: They say a GTX 770/AMD 280X will be just fine for Ultra settings (no HairWorks, that seems to be hefty performance-wise) and they purposely underclocked their I7 as low as 2GHZ while deactivating HyperThreading and still got smooth frame rates. The game is called an "example case of multi-core utilization, even HT".

So any combination of 770/280X, 8GB RAM and an i5 quadcore (Sandy Bridge or newer) is "Ultra ready" as far as their performance tests go up until now. They have not said anything about AMD CPUs (we all know they're pretty bad currently ...).

I merged a few threads on the same subject and renamed this to a more general one. From now on, all the tech talk about specs and benchmarks goes here.

And just to remind you - any off-topic discussion will be purged.

AMD CPUs are, yeah, a few clocks short of competitive for now, but it does not look like the CPU's ability to crunch numbers will matter. And because 8-core Bulldozer and Piledriver CPUs have good memory performance, users with these won't be hurting.

Yeah, if a i5 quadcore at 2GHZ (which is basically what that i7 was turned into) can manage the game at Ultra I'm pretty sure AMDs "high-end" CPUs will be fine, especially so if the multi-core optimization is indeed as good as it seems.

I'm scared my 560 Ti will no cut for this game, it will probably melt in Novigrad.

Literally. 560 Ti's do run hot already, and this game is going to load them up hard. One of my Day 1 test machines has a 560Ti 448 (more like an even hotter 570) so I'll find out pretty quick.

Mine is the Twin Frozr or something like that, during gaming I goes up to 70º with the fan at 30-40%. I'm gonna turn the fans to 100% while playing with a bit of overclock

If a 660 can run it on high I see no reason why a 560 Ti should not be able to run the game at all. You might start getting issues if nVidia has bad driver support for these old cards (I haven't checked that tbh), but apart from that I guess you'll be able to start it up. No idea how it'll look though. :D

Anyone know how the phenom 2's work? I've got a1100t. My gpu is a 970 and I havn't been noticing any bottlenecks however I'm just wondering about general performance?

I've been reading that the game isn't too CPU intensive and the phenom 2 940 is in the minimum?

Afaik the X6 1100T is roughly 15-25% slower than the good old Sandy Bridge i5. Considering the fact that a Haswell quadcore at 2GHZ was sufficient for ultra settings I'd say you'll probably be fine. However there're no benchmarks yet (and I'm not even sure AMD CPUs are still being benchmarked, since almost nobody is using them anymore for games ...).

4gb ddr2
hd 6870

if i can get at least aceptable results ( 720p 30 fps) is good to go for me

Source? The 660 is listed on the minimum requirements to run the game, and the 560 Ti is a fraction below the 660. It's pretty bizarre to have a minimum requirement card to run the game at high settings.
