Performance Issues

I got TW2 during the Steam sale and just today tried to play it I was a bit worried I may have to play on ultra low setting but if a game is good I could care less.

But I wasn't expecting this, I get anywhere from 15-23FPS and it jumps like crazy there is also some stuttering. I originally went with the "Medium Spec" settings and got the above FPS, I then tried lowering and lowering the settings until now and the FPS stayed the same no noticeable gain. The only setting I didn't change was resolution, I also used a few monitoring tools in game to see what was going on and noticed my GPU was being used 100%(to be expected) but CPU was barely being used at all maybe once or twice 2 cores went to 27%.

My specs.
CPU: AMD FX-4100
GPU: AMD Radeon 6670 1GB
Res.: 1600x900

I know the GFX card is really low end but I would expect at the lowest settings to at least get more than 16FPS.

Any tips?

There is definitely some serious stuttering. :'(

Try closing background programmes as well as turning AA off, dynamic shading off and lower resolution. It may improve your PC performance. Moreover reconsider changing GFX card for something newer.

I have been playing TW2 EE on ultra low settings as I have an Nvidia 230m with an intel Core i5 @ 2.27ghz(M430). I was forced to change all settings to have the card focus on performance only, just to get a playable GUI. I even had to change my res from 1366 x 768 to 1024 x 768. I know what you thinking. Why would anyone bother playing at such a TINY res? Well, after a while you get used to the interface in such a small window and begin to enjoy being able to just play the game at a decent frame rate.

I really could not care less, as I got to play through this game and IMO the story is totally worth it. In fact, I am on my second play through right now and will be going back for a 3rd and 4th when time permits.

I cannot wait to experience this game on Ultra High @ 1920 x 1080. I am just waiting for some time to flatten my Desktop and buy an Nvidia GTX560; which requires money... obviously. :p

+1 to reducing background tasks and optimizing card software to focus on performance.

Okay I lowered the resolution to 1080x720 and the FPS got a little better, but there is still crazy amounts of stuttering it makes the game unplayable.

There should be a setting in the CCC (or at least that`s what it used to be called)in manage 3D settings . Anyway what you`re looking for is flip queue size if you find it set it to 1 and retry the game . Nvidia user myself but the concepts the same for both Nvidia and ATI in that it limits the amount of pre-rendered frames the CPU uses before it gets processed by the GPU . Nevermind it`s found in RadeonPro and at the link .

Alright just set it up I'll test it out now. Even if it doesn't solve the issues that tool seems like it could be extremely useful so thanks. :)

Were your video drivers done on a clean install ? In other words did you have a set of drivers installed previously and when you updated it just updated them ?

No. But to that extent I have many games and this is the only one that is giving me this particular issue.

I don't use drive sweepers because I don't know what files are related to the video drives and what is unrelated and is required for something else.
