PLEASE Fix this already. I am not leaving Velen before this problem has been solved...and i mean not by the "start a new game" way. I love the game and admire the work you have done but this is for a lot of people a bit of a gamebreaker.

It´s a fucking crazy shit dude, 2 weeks and nothing of CD Projeckt saw about this big problem. Only need the two Cards of Claywich but fucking key is missing and nothing evidence of bandids. It´s my last PS4 Trophee and next patch don´t resolve the problem. Please Saw something.
I had the same problem, no key! However, I checked all my save games & there were about 4 auto saves to choose from. I chose the one at the bridge, where the bandits try to take a toll from you, & went again from there. This time I hit the bandit camp all swords blazing & got the key! So, for anyone else coming to this, there's a fix without having to restart the game & from now on, if there's a Person in Distress, I'm gonna hit 'em hard & fast to be sure of getting the key. Seems like the bug is if you use tactics & kite & run etc. then you don't get the key. 
I ran into this problem without realizing it was a glitch until I had played another 5 hours and erased my saves.
My glitched merchant was at the Bandit's Camp on an island SouthEast of Crow's Perch.
Killed the leader and his bandits, no key drop.

To be honest its getting ridiculous how people including me keeps asking for help for more than 3 weeks and no one bother to answer ... its weird i kept asking on twitter and end up getting ignored ... i need that key to get the plat trophy

Could not you be a little bit more patient? This is a know problem and they said they were working on it. There are probably hundreds, even thousands of people asking questions, reporting bugs or begging for more features from the devs. It must be utterly complex to patch, given the amount of content.
By the way, I did not get that bug, so their patch work for some people. (new game started after the 1.05 patch)

Hmmm, I startet a new game with patch v1.06 and I got the bug. Maybe they fix it in v1.07. My suggestion is: If they cannot solve the problem with the bandit leader then they should put the key to another location. Maybe behind a near bush so that you can use the withcer senses ... or inside a near chest.
I came back to this area and the prisoner was back in the cage, killed all the bandits and still no key, as others have reported the last bandits horse had a "0" level and vitality bar and could do damage to me by running into me! What a weird bug.
Does someone know the internal name of the key that is needed to open the cage? I would like to try the debug console in order to fix the error (in other words: in order to give me the key manually).

Okay, I found the name of the key by trial and error. It's "lw_gr29_cage_key". Once the key is used with the cage, it will open, the icon on the map will grey out and the merchant is free.
