I'll post the screenshot here for convenience.

Looks pretty good to me. Very reminiscent of Infinity Engine games. Now please show us a really good user interface and describe all the friendly AI enhancements and we can all rejoice.

Thanks. It looks good, and like you said, remind a lot about IE games. Almost like a shot out of BG, except the better image quality.

Hopefully there are solid improvements in UI and AI too, and my personal chip on the shoulder: pathfinding. Like discussed in the other thread, I'd also like to see more intricate dialogue, more reactivity and roleplaying, in a more 'alive' gameworld.

Having said that, if they can somehow come out with as good a game as Baldur's Gate, they will have done one heck of a job.

First DA:I, then this. Strongholds are in vogue it seems.

Don't care at all about DA3 and therefore didn't know there was a stronghold mechanic there. Skimmed through this article and it didn't look that fantastic if I'm honest. Will probably turn out good though, as I trust these guys. Sounded a bit like the stronghold in NWN2, though I haven't finished that game yet (got bored).

Has there come out any information about the massive dungeon?

Don't think so. Not on their forums at least. I don't follow the devs twiter, or Codex/SA/formspring posts

As far as I know, Obsidian announced (through a Kickstarter stretch goal) that Project Eternity would have a fully featured stronghold long before we knew anything about DA:I. So if anything, it's Project Eternity, then DA:I.

But strongholds are nothing new. Baldur's Gate II had strongholds, which were actually very personalized. NWN2 extended the concept of stronghold to include a character's base that originates quests and so on. From BG2, I'd say some of the more influential strongholds were the warrior's (D'Arnise Keep) and the thief's (Mae'Var's former guild), since they include administration and provide income, especially and ironically the thief's stronghold. NWN2 utilized this concept fairly well I'd say: it is the only such game where you can actually invest your riches in something large instead of carrying literally hundreds of thousands of gold coins around. And it is the only game I know of where you can send an entire caravan to clear out the gold stash of the dragon you just defeated.

If Project Eternity provides a stronghold similar to Crossroads Keep, I'll be satisfied. If they make it more interesting and fun, with a wider diversity of options in which to invest and grow, I'll be happy. If our stronghold decisions affect or relate to the flow of the story and our character's personality, I'll be very happy. For example, I don't think a druid or a thief would be interested in becoming feudal lords. And I don't think a bloodthirsty berserker and a paladin would run their fortress the same way.

I am concerned about companions going out on missions of their own. Does this mean they will passively level up as we do too? Also, why are there companions in my keep? Does that mean they will utilize the NWN2/DA:O thing where you collect companions, instead of leaving them behind? Compromises are part of the game, hell damn it.

I'm playing BG2 with high-res mods and it looks almost the same to me. I actually had to look at that screenshot twice to double-check that it was new and not one of Irenicus' experiment chambers :p

The only real difference I see is that Project Eternity is zoomed in a bit more but still as sharp (with the BG1-2 high res mod, it has to zoom the camera out pretty far until the image is compressed enough that it looks sharp). It'll be weird for me to get used to what the normal camera field of view is supposed to be :p

Yes, yes, and definitely yes! It drives me crazy when I tell my party to walk to the other side of the city and then I go get some water or something because they take forever to walk, and when I come back five of them are standing at the exit and the sixth one is off in completely the wrong direction and still wandering around (and for some reason it's usually Jaheira, thus contributing to my dislike of her ).

I'd also like it if the UI is updated as well. I found it extremely convenient how Dragon Age: Origins allowed me to click and drag the spell bar to make it wider so that I could see all my spells at once. I don't like having to flip through several rows of spells in BG1-2, especially when most of the spell bar is just empty space on my screen and it would totally fit if more spells were visible at once. But I do find the BG1-2 spell system more convenient than Torment, so at least there's that :p

That would be awesome too :D As much as I like BG2 so far, it doesn't feel like roleplaying to me. Even when I have dialogue choices, a lot of the times neither one is what my character would actually say. I prefer how Torment usually had a bunch of different dialogue choices for each decision which allowed me to choose his personality in addition to what the actual choice was. And of course, being able to talk to party-members at will instead of only learning their backstories through random banter.

BG2 had strongholds, so I think that's what they're basing it on :) And "strongholds" was one of the stretch goals, so I think they've been planning it before DA:I announced it.

Edit: Oops, Volsung already posted that while I was typing :p

Oh, i'm not saying they copied DA. If anything i suspect is the other way around. They promished it months before, somewhere in the update mentioned that most of the systems are already in, and seems like NWN2 crossroads keep upgrated.

If you have cleared the dungeon and built a prison under your stronghold, then when you are fighting some of the named NPC’s in the game, you will be given an option to take them prisoner instead of killing them. Prisoners are kept in a cell in your prison, where you can visit them and talk to them, and occasionally use them as leverage later in the game. But you will need to keep your security level high, or you might suffer from a prison break!

Best part of the update for me.

I am honestly more excited about the mechanics of Wasteland 2 than PE at this point. But we will see what happens when PE is closer to release date.

I'm in two minds on this, the game looks bloody good in a lot of respects, but all of this WOW shit is putting me off. Still i've paid for it so guess i'll just have to suck it and see, I liked most of Obs past games so I suppose it'll suit me when cows come home.

Me too. The hype never worked for me.But I liked most Obsidian games i played, so the one game they are free from publiser control should be good.
But yes, all this "Witcher 3 will redefine RPGs, Wasteland 2 will be the most reactive game ever, PE will be RPG of the ages" leave me sceptical at best.

I'm actually not at all excited about this game. A lot more interested in the new Torment or in Divinity: Original Sin.

I'm excited about this game because BG2 with PS:T story and IWD art is my dream game, full stop.
If Obsidian will be able to deliver is an other matter entirely, and generaly i'm cautious to hype. But if i had to choose one company to try my dream game, it would be Obsidian.
So, i'm in a wait and see state. So far, nothing they showed caused me worry, but it's too early to tell.
Numenera i haven't given any thought. I will see how W2 comes out before i start getting hopefull for inXile. I backed them both times, but i don't forget they haven't put out a single good game so far.

I honestly don't think that Project Eternity's story is gonna come even close to Torment's.

Reading through past updates and all the old lore i'm thinking that the cataclysmic event we witness at the games beginning is Saint Waidwen's death by bomb at Godhammer citadel. I don't think it'll be Torment like, but I hope it's of Torment quality, as Jack said I think the hype is just that and all I want is a damn good game.
