I think it would be cool to have something like this in the game http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Ys on another note some of the southern areas interest me like Angren, Cintra etc. but i think realistically we might have everything north of the Yaruga river (can't ask for too much if the game lives up to how big it will be) but i do hope to visit the valley of flowers and Mahakam as well as the Brokilon forest just to hopefully experience time with some of the other races that haven't really been expanded on since the first Witcher (i just want to explore everything i guess :look:)[h=1][/h]

Any of the same locations in Witcher 3 as in the previous games?

Hey, guys. One thing I've been curious about is if we will be able to revisit any of the same locations from the first two games in The Witcher 3. I think it would be really amazing to be able to go to Flotsam, for example, and see it in the new engine and how it relates to surrounding areas. Do any of you know if there are any of the same places in The Witcher 3 as in the first two games?

Some of them will be accessible for sure (but not necessarily in full). At least Kaer Morhen and Vizima are confirmed.

I think CDPR purposely avoided most old locations. It would've been interesting to revisit them, but new places come first. Still, we know of Kaer Morhen and Foltest's Castle (not the entire Vizima).
Don't expect much more than that, unless we get a Pontar Valley expansion or something.

Vizima specifically isn't in the game, only Vizima Palace. Kaer Moerhen is the only place we're aware of so far that we've seen before, and I'm fine with that . I prefer to see new locations instead of rehashing old ones.

It's in Vizima, but it's not a location that we've seen in the previous games, and that's what this thread is all about.

You didn't forget Foltest inviting you to his Castle to talk about Adda, did you? Unless I'm missing something, Emhyr occupies that same Castle now.

Doesn't the Pontar run through the lands of The Witcher 3? Is Flotsam more to the east or something? I've never been really clear on the locations of things in the games relative to one another, so I apologize if these are stupid questions.

Pontar runs through everything of importance, essentially. But Flotsam is on the borders of Temeria and Aedirn, way east of what we'll be exploring in W3. Same with Vergen, of course. And Loc Muinne, which is... somewhere. East. I think.

In Kaedwen. Up a bit, right a bit from Vergen. So yes, still "off the map" for TW3.

This is the map for all the games. Obviously not complete as there are still some areas for The Witcher 3 that haven't been revealed yet.

Ok, that's what I was thinking. I was thinking "east " even though I wrote "west". I quickly edited it, but I guess you were already writing your response.

So, I guess aside from Kaer Morhen we won't really be treading much of the same land as the first two games.

I mean, that's fine. It's good that we'll be getting to explore all new areas in the world of the Witcher. I just thought it would be cool for there to be a little overlap.. kind of tying it all together.

That map is awesome. Thank you so much for sharing that. It really clarifies things for me.

What about La Vallete Castle then? That would be in our Witcher 3 area judging by the map. Or is that, too, more to the east?

---------- Updated at 02:33 AM ----------

Sorry, I wasn't sure if the red oval was literally delimiting the area of The Witcher 3 or just showing its general location. I was looking at the map below at the same time and it kind of confused me. I knew we would be visiting Vizima so it made me think maybe La Vallete Castle would fall within the lands of The Witcher 3, but actually the scale and position of things is just off in that map.

Yeah, it's too far to the east.

if you look here, la valette seems to be directly north of vizima.

Yeah, the tw3 world map above gives a better indicator. it looks like all the cities that are named on the above tw2 map are unnamed on tw3 map. i'd say that city in the no-go zone to the east of the playable area of Velen is la valette. same with Gors Velen, to the south. anyway, i hope that gives some perspective.
that other map you've got is a bit confusing and i think doesn't take scale into account.

EDIT 2: AND I WENT and tried to name everything, some of it is probably wrong but idk it gives an idea of where everything is. for the record, despite its proximity, Gors Velen isn't in the game. the high lighted areas (plus kaer morhen and eventually toussaint and those secret areas) are playable areas. the cities and locations outside of those areas are not accessible (beyond speculation).

I can't wait to visit Vizima (and Kaer Morhen too) after the events of W1 and see how my save/decitions will impact different dialogues, references etc.

I would also love to see the beautiful Flotsam but I doubt it will happen.

Thanks for taking the time to name those places.
I'm noticing that Vizima palace has unusually large area highlighted for being a single building, much bigger than White Orchard, which is pretty large from what I've seen so far.
hmm....

Perhaps they want to emphasize you won't visit the area around Vizima.

I'm glad though that you can get to Kear Morhen, can't wait to see how it looks now from the inside.

Maybe those areas you see around the Palace are just the places you can see if you looked out a window in the palace? I'm quite certain we won't be visiting the city itself or the outskirts around it.
