I hope it is preliminary, i will only abandon my windows 7 when my hardware is not compatible anymore ;)

Less than one minute updates launching only when i ask them to is invaluable, i also have complete control of what happens and know every nook and crany where windows store traces and metadata, no bing integration, no store, no telemetrics, group policy without a volume license, no nonsense. (that and visual presentation, i don't fancy the flat movement) .
It's fast, has a good usage of resources, and can live months without reboot if i so wish, my specific hardware is very very stable with 7.
All the games i am interested in so far work perfectly in it, most RTX cards work in 7.

Sorry i am going out of topic.
Case in point, i hope it's not so.

Pretty much a Platform Discussion though - and headed away from 2077.

What, no Linux release listed, or no Windows 7? Requiring Windows 10, is likely a sign CDPR got stuck on MS lock-in (DX12). They aren't too farsighted in that stuff to use Vulkan. Or may be they simply don't want to test on Windows 7, assuming it's EOL soon.

I doubt they'd want to lose the purchases from all win7 users for no good reason.

Then it's strange indeed. No one stopped them from using Vulkan and releasing for it. Though some blame CDPR for having too close ties with MS. Not sure if true, but they are heavy in MS lock-in, that's easy too see if you check their open job positions.

May be once they'll release CP2077 for Stadia, they'll release it for Linux and for Windows 7, since they'll be using Vulkan already.

Valve are working on a new shader compiler for Mesa (for AMD):

* https://github.com/daniel-schuermann/mesa/tree/master/src/amd/compiler
* https://steamcommunity.com/games/221410/announcements/detail/1602634609636894200

Just built it and tested it with TW3 in Wine+dxvk. There is an improvement!

Not bad! It produced around +3 fps for me on average (+3.6% improvement) in the busy street in Novigrad.

Hi so i found this article and wanted to know what you guys think about the fact that the console versions are prioritized.Wouldnt it be better if every version would be treated equally?Lg https://www.google.at/amp/s/techlapse.com/gaming/cd-projekt-red-cyberpunk-2077s-console-version-is-a-priority/amp/

PC is PC

They are called the " master race" for a reason. They don't need priorition becuase they have better pixels, mods and 60 fps.

Fully agree with you even when streaming arrives a gaming rig will always be superior but optimization is a thing too you know gg

So, odds are this will be either closed for Platform Wars as usual when it descends, or moved to Platform Discussions.

Every version is never treated equally. At all. Different capabilities and engine idiosyncracies ensure that.

What this " equality for all!" argument generally means is, "I don't want my PC visuals reduced to fit a console."

Although that's a concern for some people, it's also true that I'd love to see a game built solely for my 2080 Ti. Really make use of those features.

Is that going to happen? No. Is my experience reduced because of it? Technically yes, but realistically, no.

Without consoles, no budget for so many things. Without consoles and mid-level PC playable, no budget for much of anything.

So I'm grateful we have games optimised for consoles and for mid-level PCs, because it means I can play so many more things with my silly overpriced, over-capable PC.

basically. most people aren't playing on 4000 dollar rigs. and most people are the audience for the game.

Wise words Sardukhar. The gaming industry wouldn't be what it is today if it weren't for those pesky and inferior consoles.

The page you shared (TechLapse) wrote speculatively from what was actually asked and told in the interview with Alvin Liu.

Question asked by Wccftech Journalist:
"A lot of people, after seeing last year’s debut gameplay demo and the hardware it was running on, have become a bit wary of how Cyberpunk 2077 could look and run on consoles and low-end PCs. Is that a challenge in terms of optimization for lower-end hardware?"

Answer from Alvin Liu, CDPR employee:
"Actually no, we have a very custom engine, the RED Engine. And actually, we’re targeting consoles as first class platforms and it looks amazing there. So obviously, if you spent, you know, $2,000 building your PC rig, it’s going to look better on that. But the graphics are quite amazing for what you’re going to get from Cyberpunk 2077 on consoles and low-end PCs."

Source:
https://wccftech.com/cyberpunk-2077-look-amazing-even-consoles/

So the question was very much related in regards of graphics/visuals and it was not said that console would be a "priority". Liu has only clarified that consoles AND low-end PCs will still be able to enjoy great graphics, because they treat consoles as frist class products (similar to a high valuable device).

It's funny to see how some pages like TechLapse purposely exaggerate articles written by other journalist pages just to get views. And it's disgusting.

Yeeaaaahhhh... That linked source quote says pretty much the opposite.

Treating consoles as first class platforms does not mean PCs (even high-end PCs) are getting the short end of the stick. It just means CONSOLES aren't getting the short end of the stick.

You guys have played CD Projekt Red games before, right? :p They unequivocally look better on high-end PCs, and include settings to pump things up. So don't worry. You'll get plenty of value out of your fancy rig, but low-end PCs and consoles will get a beautiful game, too.

Win-win. Win? Everyone can be happy. Yay.

Also, graphical mods. So yeah. Even without mod support those are definitely going to happen.

I just want decent controls on the PC not the typical lousy console port.

I don't think this will be a problem with CP2077 tho.

Am a bit confused, sooo as quoted by Alvin
"we’re targeting consoles as 'first class platforms' and it looks amazing there. "

targeting consoles as first class doesn't it mean giving it more priority than pcs?
ofc it excludes high end pcs but they are actually prioritizing consoles graphics over pc right?

Actually, I'm still waiting to see if it will work on the 39% of PC still using Windows 7, THAT would be PC treated equally with consoles imho.

Happy? It's unacceptable to me. First class should have been replaced with a fancy synonym. I'd recommend gilt-edged, jim-dandy, fantabulous or supernal. Just imagine a developer giving such a response. "We're treating consoles as jim-dandy platforms.". The confusion would be priceless :).
