If not simply here, posting each others progression from time to time, there are other ways. Skype, for example.

I'd like to know as well. Posting here would work, but would likely spoil for people who have not played the game yet.

Played a few hours, and got to the hot bar. Had forgotten what a WONDERFUL place that is, so spent a lot of time talking to the people there. Wish I could *unknow* the whole game though :(

How do we coordinate?

Weeell, I didn't really get that far when I suggested we coordinate it :p

For me, it makes sense to segment it and for example say "this week you have to play up to this point", but I don't know how possible it is with Planescape, how non-linear it is (Cory... help?) Of course we can always change the pace. The "checkpoint" should allow everyone to be able to do it, even if they want to spend extra time grinding. I understand there are some who can't stop once they start, but we won't know if this is possible until we try :)

I have an exam on 30th so I can't play before that anyway.

Maybe by then I would have finished the Legacy of Kain series!

Grinding for what? Experience points killing cranium rats? when you could instead be
crawling knee-deep in the drowned nations finding a stinking orb
or
discovering your lost arm in a crypt
? Heh.

The best you guys could do is synchronize your playthrough (at the expense of some freedom) and determine which major area to play next, at least while you are in the Hive. Once you get to the lower ward the options about where to go next narrow a bit. There are many, many possible combinations of things you can do/say and how things can turn out, so you all will be playing different games but at least you will be in the same general location and meet the same characters, so you can trade tips.

It would be interesting if someone wanted to play a strong brute and compare the outcome of events with those of a dexterous thief, or those of the archetypal wise/intelligent mage.

We can have a synchronised Planescape: Torment play-through if anyone is interested.

Yes, let's do it!

I don't know the game and that's exactly why I need help from those who are familiar with it :) Determining general areas to play in sounds fine. How many areas do you think it could be divided to, without limiting one's freedom?

If you don't mind my opinion, I think the playthrough could be divided into these areas: (heavy spoilers, you have been warned)

1.: Mortuary/The Hive
2.: The whole Catacombs area (including the Trash Warrens, the Buried village, Dead Nations, Drowned nations, etc.)
3.: The Lower Ward/The Clerk's Ward (maybe with the Modron cube, but that's only optional)
4.: Ravel's maze/Curst/Curst prison
5.: The Outlands/Curst/Carceri
6.: The Hive/The Fortress of Regrets

Of course, sometimes a bit of a backtracking is necessary (or at least advised), but I can't think of a better way to divide the game into parts.

Dona,
Sorry I came out as rude and douchy, I meant to point out that these classic computer RPG's contain little to no grinding, a concept I learned recently from action and japanese RPG's. What might delay somebody's play through is, instead, exploration and interaction. Sorry again, I've been in a strange mood lately. I'll be happy to help you guys in what I can.
Dearg,
That is probably the most logical division of the game, by areas. Good job.
What people could do is decide how much time they want to spend in each general location, by voting when to move on to the next area. Some will probably do more than others, but that's just how the game is.
Two suggestions: let's move over to playing classic rpg's, and to everyone involved in this community playthrough: read ALL text and dialogues. It is both important to understand the game and actually quite good, above the average fantasy novel level.

I agree on that, let's move it over to the right thread.

Just one quick thing though, also relevant to the interview re: Planescape Torment spiritual successor. I also recommend reading the description of all items you pick up and come across. They put a lot of work into this as well, and it's great to get even deeper into the story and universe.

Good division of areas too. Especially the first ones are big, so we'd need more time to explore and experience these. From what I recall of my first and thus far only playthrough, I spent a LOT of time in the Hive.

There is one place you can grind in the game, quite well, but it's tough as hell so not recommended to take party members with you. I didn't do that as I didn't fancy dying about 5 times per enemy, but for people who are really into stuff like that it can be done there. You will know it when you get there ;)

Been playing Blood Omen 2, killed Faustus and Marcus.

I know the game is the least popular of the series, but honestly so far I am liking it. The gameplay, despite feeling clunky animation wise, is fun. The combat is actually more enjoyable to me than Soul Reaver 1 and 2. Kain is a badass, especially when using mist to execute stealth kills (not a great stealth mechanism by any means, but still fun). The boss fights are fun though can sometimes drag unnecessarily. But I like how they have different phases, forcing you to change your tactics. The "dark gifts" are fun to use and necessary, unlike the pointless glyphs of SR1. Though the music is average for now, I like how the music changes when blocking and attacking.

I also like the fact that it's centered around a city, it's a nice change of environment. So I assumed that it was going to be a semi-open city, but sadly it wasn't. If there is a reboot, I would like it to be semi-open, something like Arkham City. Also the game is much darker than the Soul Reavers, which is to be expected from a Kain centered game.

Now graphics wise, SR2 seems superior, at least when it comes to character models (Vorador looks meh in BO2). Story wise, I think SR2 will beat it, though I do appreciate the fact that the world doesn't seem empty in BO2. I understand that SR1 was set in a wasteland and SR2 was for the most part set in uninhabited places, but the setting felt empty. In BO2, it actually feels more alive and I like the random conversations between npcs, ranging from hilarious (the geek analyzing a play with his bored gf) to informative (how people and nobles perceive the Sarafan order). In addition to contacts and human allies. For the first time, I feel that humans are not utterly irrelevant.

Story wise, nothing much happened. Though I feel it's abrupt, I would have preferred if we played as Kain before the battle of Meridian, interact with the traitor vampires and receive some foreshadowing (would have been great if they were jealous of the Sarafan brothers that Kain made his lieutenants). Also get to see Kain as the supposed "great general" Umah says he is. For now Kain's leadership skils are relegated to the told and not the shown, which hopefully will change. I find Umah interesting though I hope it wont' be a cheesy ass romance (so unKain like). The Sarafan lord is obviously not human, I wonder what he is.

Oh and Kain's VA is awesome.
Door keeper: "Only night shift workers are allowed in here"
Kain: "I AM the night shift"

BO2 feels so different to the SR games both in gameplay and graphics mostly because it was actually a retooling of a completely different game. I did also enjoy it though, especially the atmosphere of the city.

Not sure if you know, but Kain's VA, Simon Templeman, also voiced Loghain in Dragon Age.

Of course I do, it's freakin Simon Templeman. He's excellent. And now I will never look at Loghain the same.

In fact one speech in SR1 (the one about conscious and the gravity of choice) reminded me of Loghain.

That's what ruined Loghain for me, he couldn't compare to Kain, and that's all I heard when speaking to him. Same with Alan Parker in Alpha Protocol.

... well, I was checking Sleeping Dogs in the off-chance the impulse to drop $50 on a game manifested itself, but then I noticed the warning: XP not supported. My gaming days may be coming to an end :)

Definitely in a good way :)

The whole game is so atmospheric and the ending so enigmatic, raising theological questions. I really liked that, a finale that doesn't really resolve anything but makes you think and wonder instead. Great game!

You are missing out! Its really fun game worth the money! Combat is really satisfying! First thing I did was finish all street tournaments! and then I started doing the missions.. really cool game but badly optimized I can run Witcher 2 or Crysis 2 on almost ultra but I have to play Sleeping Dogs using SD textures if I want everything else on high.. not good!

I'd recommend turning the ambient occlusion and maybe the AA down a notch over using SD textures. This pretty much tripled my framerate.

Also, having vertical sync or frame limiting on tends to cause jitters, so check that too.
