You could go with something like Avadon? Won't have fancy 3D graphics and such, but there is a deep RPG there (or so I've heard, have only tested it a little so far).

We could spend the day recommending our favorite games, but who knows what alextyc1 is actually looking for.

Also I can't believe this guy doesn't have a backlog.

Ok...

Like i said i prefer an open world game or a rpg from the last four years.
Maybe something similiar to the witcher or gothic series.
(Not from bioware or blizzard cuz i played those)
If any one has suggestions about such games
It would help

New Vegas, one of few games on Steam that I miss.
Neverwinter Nights 2 from GOG, if you don't like the main campaign download one of the mods from Neverwinter Vault.

Divinity II- you got your dragons and monsters and magic, you might like it.

There's also this Drakensang that people mention now and again

No other Heroes of Might and Magic fans?
I've been a fan of the series since the 3rd one, and I have the 5fth plus its 2 expansions. And now 6 and its expansion. One of my favorite strategy series!

third one was legendary, the rest is nowhere close to 3rd.

Heroes 3 huh? I grew up with that game, still playing it whenever there's a new map. I like H6 more than H5, but nothing can beat H3.

Lately i've been trying to get into the old X-Com series. While UFO Defense and Terror From the Deep were easy enough (to run at least) the last one, X-Com: Apocalypse is proving tricky. Apparently games that were supposed to have been optimized for both Windows and DOS run poorly on the DOSBox program Steam provided and flat out can't run on Windows 7 if you try to mount the "Disk" and install it.

No love for The Last of Us here?

Just started a 2nd playthrough in that game, despite the fact that I have an idiotic long backlog...

I love the 3rd, but I kinda feel like it's overrated, due to nostalgia. I liked the 5th more personally. which is not to say that the 3rd didn't have better points.

Still too early for me to judge the 6th, but I have a feeling it's going to be my favorite, overall it's an improvement.

Well thank you
Its what i was looking for

And i also prefer might and magic 5,especcially when one uses super armagedon and kills everyone on the map...
I always played with the wizards

OK started playing Expeditions: Conquistador.

I'll leave my comments on the campaign and the general writing for later, but I'll just say the game is text intensive and so far the dialogues read fluently and options seem to actually open, close or at least somehow modify the missions you get. You also get reactions from your expedition members, depending on their personalities (religious, altruistic, racist, etc.) and the things you do/say/choose.

To being with you create an explorer and assign attribute values, like leadership, exploration, tactics, etc. These attributes affect how things unfold in combat, dialogue and exploration. Then you choose expedition members, from a pool containing medical doctors, hunters, explorers, soldiers and scholars. Each different member provides attribute bonuses as well as their personal talents. For example, if you recruit a translator, you may be able to tell the natives they should leave a temple to avoid conflict, instead of simply killing them as you were requested.

Exploration is fun but outside of town movement is "turn based". There are no other players moving their pieces, but you only get a limited amount of moves per "turn" (affected by your explorers I think). After you run out of moves you must set camp, and assign tasks for each group member. For example, tasks include exploring the area for treasure, hunting for food, preserving meat or medicinal herbs, guarding the camp, and so on. If you don't guard the camp well enough, you might get robbed. If you don't preserve the meat you got from hunting the night before, it will go bad and you'll have to throw it away. Also, each member must eat either preserved rations or fresh meat. You may assign rations individually (if someone gets more food their morale might go up) or simply give each person a piece. And so on.

The map contains points of interest like treasure, plants and so on. You may collect different kinds of materials like metal and wood, gold for purchasing at town shops, etc. Don't know if there are random encounters.

Combat is actually a lot of fun and follows standard turn-based mechanics. Each unit has a few special abilities that take a certain amount of time, line of sight, range, critical chance, etc. Also there are attacks of opportunity, flanking attacks, different kinds of cover, and so on. Soldiers usually specialize in melee weapons and short range guns. Hunters are good with long range. Explorers are good with hand to hand. Etc, etc. You may also set up and place obstacles in the board when you are given the chance to prepare before a battle.

Anyway, having fun so far. The game runs a little weird though. For example, I keep getting GPU temperatures that I consider high for the graphical quality. Must be another NWN2 with unnecessarily complex shadow algorithms. Which takes me to the visuals. They are fine! We have a semi-fixed top-down view that can be zoomed in and rotated left and right, but not up or down. It has good lighting and shadows, effects like ambient occlusion and bloom, and different settings for the texture and shadow quality. The game overall looks smooth but perhaps a bit too smooth... like with a gaussian filter. I have everything on max and runs very fast on a GTX 560 Ti.

Anyway, it has been fun so far. We'll see how it progresses. Keep in mind this game was Kickstarted. Not one of the high profile Kickstarters either, so I am thrilled about the new wave of cRPG's coming out soon.

Last night I finished Hydrophobia: Prophecy. It's quite short and can get repetitive at times, but it's also a solid shooter with entertaining climbing and swimming parts, and as the title suggests, water (which looks mind-blowingly realistic btw) is an elemental part of gameplay. At times it felt a bit like a low-budget benchmark game for the HydroEngine and it's obviously unfinished, but I still had lots of fun with it and really liked the setting (a futuristic, city-sized luxury ocean vessel suddenly attacked by some fanatical followers of Thomas Malthus).

Today I saw this and I'm impressed. I believe it was on PS4 so PC version could look even better

Still plays like AC games, but the world and colors really look nice. Sometimes I think only Ubisoft tries new locations for their games. Its a shame that almost whole RPG genre is still stuck in 13-14 century Europe.

Nobody get that new DARK RPG the writing is atrocious.

You only realized that now? I thought the trailer made it very clear.

Also, calling it an RPG is an undeserved compliment :p
