Finished Red Dead Redemption last night, including the "real" sortasecret ending. Will probably play a short artsy-fartsy game, waiting for April 17. Has anybody played The Path or Dear Esther?

Currently replaying Ys Seven which is an old school party based action RPG and I was reminded why I was hooked on this game when I first got it. This shit is awesome.

Me, I loved them both :)

The Path is amazing, but you need to keep an open mind. It's about exploration and not traditional gameplay. I love Tale of Tales studios and I'd also recommend their FATALE. It's a short 'game', though, and more of an explorable 3D painting.

Dear Esther is also great, at least the original mod is. Haven't gotten around to playing the new one, in all honesty it's not worth the high price mark. *waits for Steam sales*

Hey, has anyone played Shiren the Wanderer for the DS? It's a slightly shinier version of an old SNES game. It's a Japanese take on roguelikes (graphical, obviously, since it's a DS game), and I was just wondering if anyone here had an opinion on how it stacks up against some of the classic ASCII roguelikes. New(ish) genre for me, so I'm poking around all the different corners I find.

I have absolutely no problem with keeping an open mind. To me gaming is a little like cinema, there's place (and a market) for Hollywood blockbusters and there's place for arthouse, independent, ethnic films etc. The day when Mc'Donald gaming completely takes over I'll find me a new hobby ;)

Went back to Katawa Shoujo, reading Emi's path right now. Its light hearted and fun, a nice change from the depressing Hanako story and her even more depressing fanfics (damn you Brogurt!)

EDIT: Damn that stuff is addicting! I already read through the whole first and second act. And I wanted to go to bed and read a book about an hour ago... sigh....

Alright, I am going to double post since my last post was one day ago anyway:

Just finished reading Juniper's Knot, a short (20 minutes) Visual Novel about a boy and a demon. Its pretty nice, the story is kinda cliche but the art is amazing (Doomfest + Weee = epic win for me!) and the writing is pretty good too. Music does not always fit but is also good.

Its free too, so no harm in trying. You can google the link you lazy bastards!

You're set, then. :) I just feel the need to point out that they're not 'traditional' games because I've seen people complain so much. And it hurts because I absolutely loved The Path, it's a great game to dissect and think about. Dear Esther, too, although it's a pretty straightforward experience.

Deus Ex HR, part two

I just reached Omega Ranch and I'm going to stop because it's late. I don't plan on playing Panachea again, it's such a boring level and there really isn't much to see there anyway. Plus, I admit this was a replay just to get the missing achievements and see content I might have missed.

And boy, did I miss a lot! I tried to do quests differently. Was ruthless towards the Sarif employee, lied to my ex-colleague, got some new dialogue out of Haas. This time I talked to the Hive bartender and was surprised by the results. Mostly because the other path gives you a nice, fully rendered scene. I had a spare gun for 301 pod resident this time, the outcome of that was... nice I guess?

Mos important of all, I won the argument with my boss (boy, did I misjudge Sarif's character...) and really enjoyed the follow-up. I still can't believe I'd missed it the first time, it's such an important DX1 tie-in, too. E-mail names in that one killed me! Zer0cool and Veronica M? Hahah. Brent's attitude made me think of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep for some reason, I'll have to google around to see if it has anything to do with it. It's been a while since I read the book :/

Hello!

Many of us here pre-ordered Botanicula from our favorite digital store, GOG.com, only to find out that the new Humble Bundle features Botanicula among it's DRM-free, multi-platform games, for a pay-what-you-want deal. I received an email from GOG soothing the sour taste in our mouths, offering a few things like a free copy of Machinarium (which I already own twice ;)) and a free Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut, which I bought on GOG at 50% a few days ago (and already owned a retail non Director's Cut copy). DAMN! Such bad luck!

To other people who pre-ordered Botanicula on GOG.com and do not own Machinarium or The Witcher 1 Enhanced Edition, congratulations! I sadly feel like I got nothing in return but oh well, life is full of choices and I do not regret supporting GOG/CDP.

All I wish is GOG.com included the other installers for Multiplatform games. If I buy from them, as well as from the Indie Bundle, I want to be able to play them on GNU/Linux, Windows and Mac OS X.

I recently bought a German indie point-and-click adventure, only to see it featured in a computer magazine a few weeks later for a third of the price. Well, we can always congratulate ourselves to our fine taste ;-)

Yeah I believe in supporting indie games and companies who also support US, especially through no DRM. However, it was just particularly weird that I could not benefit from either of their offers, heh. I bought The Witcher 1 Enhanced from them only a few days ago. Should have waited :p

Anyway, I hope GOG will offer Linux executables for multiplatform games. That would put them on par with the Humble Bundle in my opinion. I already suggested that to them, and would encourage others to do the same if you are interested.

You will probably get both games (Machinarium and TW1:EE) regardless, since they will be added to your account.

However, make sure to check your email because GOG sent links to download Botanicula's entire sountrack and artbook, both of which you do not want to miss. Those links expire at some point, so do it soon! If you have problems, I can send you mine and noone should complain since you are entitled to them.

On a side note, I played a bit of Botanicula with my wife yesterday and we both loved it! It's not a typical adventure game, since puzzles are way too simple. It is more about experiencing and exploring, and enjoying how the visuals are synchronized with musical events. Very artistic and pleasant to play, especially with a good sound system.

Oh yes! YESSS!
tried today and lllllove it

But I'm stucked in searching the third feather
LOL

The game is fresh air to me :)
Anyway, I could use that Tw1 GoG Copy actually, since mine is scattered in too many bakcups and Dvds... having one backuped on Gog and without needing to reinstall f rom 0 to 1.5 ain't that bad :)
And I'm eager to play Machinarium, yummm

If you want the soundtrack and artbook let me know and I'll find a way to help you have it. They're too big for emailing.

The game *is* quite cool, very entertaining in a weird sort of way, but I love weird! Try looking around, interacting with all the objects you can. The feathers are easier to get than you'd think :)

You haven't played Machinarium? Now THAT is a tough adventure game! If you get stuck I'd be glad to help!

Since Tribes Ascend has a fucked up launcher and even after 3 reinstalls/redownloads I still can't play I have downloaded Super Monday Night Combat and Blacklight Retribution. Both are quite fun and if anyone else is playing then by all means let me know.

So, how did you like RDR?

Hey, RDR was fun for the first 20 hours (lasted me 40) but once the game hadshowcased all it's best elements it slowly became repetitive, you know, with all those 5 minutes + horseback rides, the random encounters, the minigames I didn't care about. Not exactly my thing, during the last third of the game I was just playing to get to see the ending, and after John Marston finished the main mission and got his family back the game reverted to tutorial mode, with all the cow herding, the crow shooting etc. wich was kind of lame. In principle RDR has an interesting story, reminding more a Sam Peckinpah movie than one by Sergio Leone, but instead of going the TW2 route and making the story the game's center, the reason one feels compelled to play and to finish, they shaped RDR into some kind of amusement park with all sorts of rides and attractions. In short, it should have been more rpg-ish. I've never felt any interest in playing a GTA title but I've been fooled into playing a Wild West version of just that, hehe. I doubt I'll ever buy a Rockstar game in the future, well maybe Max Paine, but with Max Paine one knows exactly what he's getting into ;) Btw, did you kill Edgar Ross?

EDIT
Yesterday I started a new playthrough of TW2, Roche's path, dark mode, I'm having a blast with it. Before that I played (so to say, it's really just a walk) Dear Esther. Loved the experience but it's just 2 hours and has no replay value whatsoever, still it was nice. For some reason it reminded me of the old Myst adventure games.
