Playing spy (Roche) getting two cards from deck and moving "inconvenient" card to graveyard instead of playing

I read somewhere, that if you somehow induce a card from the deck to play on the board during a round, it can be put in the graveyard instead of being played on the board. Say if the card does not fit or is even detrimental to your current board setup.

1. Is it true?
2. If true, how do you do it?

I tried several times now, but I seem forced to play the card on the board and unable to discard it (not play it).

I think you can selecting the graveyard instead of a place on the board.
This is at list how you can do it for a card in your hand.

That was my impression too, but I can't do it. Not sure how.. I'm on PS4.

I need to verify if it is possible, and if possible, how to do it on PS4.
