Playing Through TW2 quickly for the first time?

I've had The Witcher 1 & 2 for a long time now, and each time I try to get into them, I am held back, not by the story but the game mechanics. Now with The Witcher 3 in my sights I'm hyped again and I at least want some experience of the story, so I went back, and the first Witcher, the combat is far too obtrusive and distracting for me to enjoy the game, so I skipped it and decided to try The Witcher 2 again, this time on easy.

So I finally got out of the prologue for the first time and am in Chapter I and really digging the story so far, and the combat is at least passable. At this point though I am more interested in playing the game through quickly to enjoy the story and finish it before The Witcher 3 comes out, so I have about a month.

So while I don't know many spoilers I know there are some major decisions involved in things like siding with one guy or the other at the end of Chapter I (I know the whos just not the whys yet).

Anyway I was just curious if anyone had any specific advice both in terms of gameplay that might streamline the combat aspects to make them easier so I can focus more on the story, as well as character development.

I kind of want to make the decisions on my own without a guide so I can experience the game on my own terms but I'm more interested in just the story at this point and while the game is fun I want to ensure I can reach the conclusion in time for the new game to come out, as I probably won't come back to revisit it for a long time after, and I will probably just youtube plays of the alternate paths story, but first hand experience is always best.

Well if you're in it just for the story... play the game at the 'Easy' difficulty(if you aren't already), can be switched via the options menu while in-game and turn off the hard QTEs option.

Is Alchemy, Potions, Oils, and all that really necessary for an easy playthrough or mostly just getting new gear and leveling up? I am unsure how simply crafting and all of that is but it seems to be a tad complex in nature due to the sheer amount of ingredients and crafting materials you find, though I haven't actually attempted any of it myself yet.

I am playing on easy mode, I haven't turned Hard QTEs off yet but haven't found arm wrestling or fist fights too difficult yet

Nope, those aren't very necessary on Easy as far as I know, you can even defeat a few 'bosses' easily by just spamming attack.

Achemy/crafting are generally quite simple, they may look daunting at first but it's just simple. Most of the time all your ingredients will be there in monster parts, and there's also a shop next to the tavern in Flotsam that sells them.

My advice would be to go for sword only or sword/alchemy tree (riposte and longer leap is must take from sword). Magic tree is kinda useless.

I'd totally agree with this for a speed run. Take enough upgrades from Magic to get up to 3 vigor points and possibly an upgraded Quen, and max out Swordsmanship. Ignore the Alchemy tree completely.

Yeah, Swordsmanship is what you should go for, the rest require different tactics/thinking and gameplay style.

You can get 3 Vigor from the training tree. No need to "waste" points in Magic tree.

On easy mode you only have to get the skills that increase damage. Everything dies very fast so no strategy is needed at all. Just spam fast attack. With Whirl I've one shotted entire groups. You don't need oils but they are super easy to apply. Just use the one that gives a 10% bonus to everything.
