Here it is, try that out:First, uninstall it Boot in safe mode and press ESC key when you see on bottom line of display: "Press ESC to cancel loading SPTD.sys". This will abort loading of SPTD layer. Open registry editor (run regedit) and browse to the following registry key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\sptdChange the value "Start" (DWORD) to 4 rebootGo in the device managerGo to viewClick on show hidden devicesuninstall/ delete those 3 devices -> Generic DvD drive, Scsi controler, SPTD (found under non plug and play drivers)Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers\Delete the files you will find that looks like this axxxbus.sys, axxxscsi.sys, dxxxbus.sys, dxxxprt.sys (xxx are 3 numbers depending on the version you had) and SPTD.sysRebootIf you have any problems while doing it, let me know

After all the hard work, I finally managed to find that data6.cab file and installed the game and after that the latest patch 1.3Now I start the game by launching it and after 2 min. of exploring the DVD it says...Place a orriginal DVD of The Witcher in the driveThis is a joke... I've never had this much trouble trying to play a game, let lose a game I've never played for more than 15 min.Can please someone help with this?P.S.: the data6 file I managed to get from the DVD on a XP based pc. So it's got to be Vista bugging it... right?

Nope, it could really be your dvd reader, or that you have sdtp on your system.do as in this post, http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=12073.0I will look up for both things for you !!

i have a problem similar to this, i just bought the game, installed it, patched it, then go to play it and says i need the original disk (as above) BUT i didnt use daemons tools, any ideas?

Now, As the title states. I get the above error.I have read the FAQ sheet thoroughly and done everything that it stated to do. Including installing a new DVD player.I own the game and have registered it. I have never had Daemon tools or Alcohol 120% on my system. The only thing I could remove was the sptd.sys.So my conclusion is the anti piracy software has disabled the game on my system.Which means I was sold a product that does not work out of the box.So I would like a response from the company sent to my email that is part of my registration to this site that either fixes the problem or guarantees that I get my money back. Since software cannot be returned once it is opened and I will not be ripped off by a game company that sells a product that does not work. I have spent three days trying to make this game work. I have installed new hardware. So someone please tell me that my efforts were not in vain.Chris

To add to the above,I unfortunately live in a very rural mountainous area of the North Western U.S. which means I have no access to broadband and will never be able to download a patch that is over a few mb's. Which means I can't even update the game to 1.3 since that patch is 332mb.So would someone please let me know if this game even plays out of the box?At this point I have tried it on three of my systems. It does not work on any of them.Chris

I had the same problems with my version (german), and I can tell you that it works fine with the patch.I still have some problems with this "insert original DVD" thing, but it's much better with the patch, so maybe there is a gaming magazine from which you can get this patch or an earlier version of the patch (version 1.1 or 1.2), I think the most gaming magazines have a patch for The Witcher on their DVD's.Sorry, but this is all I can help you with.

game widow,no problem.I have been looking forward to playing this game since last Christmas and finally received it this week as a birthday gift. To then find out it doesn't work, because the company put anti piracy software that makes it unplayable, even when you follow all of the directions. That really makes me sick, especially after buying new hardware just for the game, and then a new DVD player as well.I sure was hoping there was a specific patch to fix this known issue. It seems silly that a known issue doesn't have its own separate patch, one that is not included in a 322mb patch that is to big for people without broadband to download.I would really like to play this game.Chris

I finished the game two times before I patched, was some bugs and long loads but worked well enough.

Have a friend download Patch 1.3 for you since your internet times-out before the download can complete. Once it's downloaded have your friend put it on a thumb-drive or blank cd...Or take your own thumb drive to your library if they dont have a firewall that will block The Witcher.com.
