[Poll] Gwent too easy?

option A should read: My odds of losing are less than 1 in 30. :\ shit happens.

as the title says. AI needs fixing has decision bugs, NPC decks are horrible (and overloaded with weather cards).

only one fix: multiplayer.

how is it fine if i have to utterly nerf my deck to be as horrible as my opponent?

and then it still doesn't alleviate the bugs like:

A. if you play spy cards first round, the enemy will often just pass the turn with 1-10 points on the board.
B. if you let enemy win first round, they will often pass the second with 1-10 points on the board.
C. they're horrible at playing weather cards, and have too many of them. sometimes even hurting their own units more than yours. they'll even use weather cards if you only have a decoy in that row. they'll use them if you only have unique cards in the row, and they have 4-5 regular units, hurting themselves in the process.
D. villentretenmerth being crazy OP with decoy card. and the AI will never decoy his own (only decoys spies, and rarely to remove a card at round's end).
E. when using a medic card, and pulling a spy from their deck, they always choose the one with the highest attack rating (backwards). they also do not decoy their own medics. they will even decoy their first placed card, 2nd turn, and just pass sometimes. bad decoy AI.
F. enemies with monsters/scoia'tael decks suck at using cards with the muster ability, often spamming them all in the first turn, leading to horrible losses.

For a meta-game that is fairly polarizing in popularity(I'm the only one I know that likes Gwent), I'd say its best not to worry too much about its difficulty. Gwent can be rough to some in the beginning until you either figure out the manipulative situations (you were kind enough to point out), or just get a bunch of hero cards. Or in some cases, people just give up on it, and that's fine, its only in a few quests. I agree with the "it's fine, stop crying" as well.

I think the AI could be changed a bit but I don't think it's too easy at all. There's still randomness as to what cards you can actually use and what opponents can and you never know what your opponent has. It's quite difficult at the beginning when you have a weak deck. As your deck grows more powerful it makes sense that it would become easier. I had quite a few tough games in the tournament at novigrad and had to re-load a few times to win :p

every time someone posts this, prepare for another one of my magical comments.

I still agree with the 'most people have issues tying their own shoe laces' option...

I can seriously go 50 games without losing one... all it does is feeds OCD (obsessive collection distinction).

almost always know what they have (usually crap, but jokes aside), if they have 3-4 cards left, they're usually weather cards and a scorch. their last card may even be a scorch, so just keep that in mind. that's really all there is to it. no skill involved.

here are my high stakes results:

- high stakes, foltest (dwarf): passes with 13 points on table since i had zero (played spies only). final score 154-86.

- high stakes, emhyr (sasha): played identical hand for first 5 cards, lol ;p then passed with me up 31-15? 2nd round, had her play a bunch of cards, while i played only unique cards, then scorch. score 175-71 ;p

- high stakes, francesca (elf): played dandelion, then decoyed him 2nd turn? lol. then passed when i have 21-7? ;\ decoy, pass. next round, drop a stennis, he drops 4 melee (at once) and dandelion... scorched 5 cards. final score: 98-56.

- high stakes, eredin (old man): drops almost his entire hand (due to muster ability, which is mostly a hindrance). basically, easy win, next 2 turns. pass 1st, he even passes the 2nd 22-7, easy win 23-22. final score: 132-41...

in fact, half my losses and when i accidentally click the wrong card ;o

It's very primitive for a card game and very unbalanced. Spies are OP. Low strength cards with no special powers are totally useless. In good card games usually there are strategies for any cards. AI, of course, sucks really badly too.

Gwent was really fun my first playthrough, got way to easy my second I've only lost a few games, and usually because I made some dumb mistake. The AI could use some improvement but honestly some rules on deck balancing would help it out. Loaded with spies and Ciri, Geralt, Villentretenmerth, Avallac'h and 3 decoys it's almost impossible to lose.

if the AI gets smarter, they need to rebalance the whole thing ...

1dmg spy giving same amount of cards as 9dmg spy just for one really bad example (not even talking about the 0dmg hero spy)...

gwent is NOT ready for PvP or tough AI in its current state of balance.
its not only cards that are unbalanced but whole fractions as well.

Just give up one round once the powerful cards of your opponent has been out. You might wanna sacrifice some powerful cards as well to draw your opponent's attention to dropping his powerful cards too. Spy will be your best friend.... More cards in hand means sure win to you once your opponent decided to lay almost all of his cards on the floor.

There were some tough games in the begining but once you get most of the cards its a cakewalk then. especially those spies.

as i said in another topic, for start - the simplest solution is : after you win the tournament at Passiflora , replace all the decks from all NPC's with strong , powerful decks , without any weaknesses , this will clearly be an improvement and is easy to implement .

Gwent suffers a lot from being mildly annoying and somewhat difficult when you start the game and becoming incredibly easy once you get the hang of the game and acquire some decent cards. It also never took away from my enjoyment of this minigame. At some point I started caring more about how badly I beat my enemies and what new card I'm going to get, instead of just winning.

I think it's pointless to count how many matches you win "without losing". Difficulty obviously depends on your and opponent's decks. When you come from White Orchard and meet opponents with several spies, it's pretty rough. Of course, once you collect the ultimate deck, it becomes easy. High Stakes is meant to be the Gwent's "final boss" (and I don't think Sascha's "too easy"), i.e. once you beat it - that's it, you have "won".

Everyone on the internet is an expert at everything.

Winning games of gwent against opponents who have good decks is hard in the beginning when you have a horrible deck, but later it becomes easy when you have a good deck.

That one dmg spy card is a lot better to have than the 9dmg card. I think there's enough of an advantage between the two. One allows you to give your opponent nothing of note, the other can be boosted up to 18 damage by your opponent. In fact, the 9 dmg spy card is my least favorite.

I kinda agree with the OP that Gwent isn't really difficult. Around half way through the game I stopped loosing altogether with the acceptance of the first opponent in the tournament because I got a ridiculous bad draw and he got the best draw he could possible get (I think) - so I had to reload because that game couldn't be won. After reload I streamrolled through the quest and didn't loose again without any problems whatsoever.

Should Gwent be more challenging though? Well for its purpose I will actually say no because it is after all a mini game and the games main focus should be elsewhere - roleplaying, fighting and story. Making it more difficult I think would only serve to frustrate a huge amount of players that don't find Gwent as fun as I do.

When that is said it did "annoy" me in the later half of the game that the fantastic fun I personally had in the beginning from visiting and playing innkeepers, merchants and the challengers from collect them all quest was toatally gone because there was hardly no chance of loosing against anyone - at least for me. That of course meant that for me there was next to no excitement left in the end with playing Gwent and the quests associated with it became more like something that felt more like "something needed to be done" instead of "something fun and challenging to do".
