I have a major problem with the idea of a canon ending, which is a major concern for me with ME: Andromeda. Although I don't particularly see why it's necessary to have a canon ending if you wanted to make another Witcher game with Ciri as the player character.
The post-epilogue cutscene for the ending in which Ciri dies says simply that she hasn't been seen since entering Tor Gvalch'ca. We know from the note that Alvin left for us in Novigrad that he survived his confrontation with the White Frost despite failing to destroy it, so it's entirely possible that Ciri could fail to destroy the White Frost but not return to Undvik, leading Geralt to believe she is dead. Of course, whether or not Geralt would know for certain due to his connection with Ciri is another point for discussion.

The problem with Ciri as the protagonist of a Witcher spin-off is not the divergent endings of Wild Hunt, but the fact that Ciri is OP AF and the game would be impossible to balance while still staying true to Ciri's character and her abilities. Wild Hunt got away with it because you play as her for very small segments, and most of her powers are locked until the end of the game.

Right now, expansions are all I'm interested in. I'm not opposed to another Witcher down the line, but CDPR has worked on this franchise for over ten years. Let them focus on Cyberpunk once they've delivered all the content that they've promised, and any additional content they decide is warranted, and maybe if they feel like making the Adventures of Lambert game that I would play the shit out of, they can do that.

Witcher 4 with Geralt would be my preference. He's the greatest protagonist gaming has ever seen in my opinion however I can understand if they want to be done with his story. Sadly, ever great story must have an end.

This is exactly why I don't want to play as Ciri in the next game (should there be a next game). She's just way too overpowered to make the game a challenge for the player, without CDPR having to somehow cripple her ability to the point where it's silly.

And I don't want to play a prequel when Ciri's like 15 or something. I'm not a fan of prequels in general. I like to see a game's world move forward, not see things happen that were in the past (similar to why I didn't want to see a Mass Effect prequel).

Based on Geralt's suicidal state, I'd say he knew for certain what had happened to Ciri.
He would have set off to find her instead of going on a suicide mission, if he had a slight doubt about Ciri's fate. He is not the kind of man who gets shaken to the core like that for possibilities.

Ehhh I'm fine with more paid expansions on TW3 BUT if they are burned out by the game then I'm ok with leaving things as they are I guess.
I don't want a TW4....first because is too soon and second because I don't want to play as Ciri. I think if they don't plan on doing additional expansions with Geralt or an Enhanced Edition of TW3 with improved gameplay (Iorveth and more Triss) then I'm fine with how things are.

playing with ciri would be good, we don't get rid of geralt and we can play with a naw character.

maybe play as heralt in sidequests as well

In Heirarch Square in Novigrad, there is a bookstore on the north end. If you enter the bookstore, the merchant gives you a quest. I've only found it on my most recent playthrough, so I'm not sure if its existence is dependent on the presence of a Witcher 1 import in your save file, since my first import was TW2 only.

I agree with you, just going through possible retcons in my head in the event that they wanted to make a game. I'd also find it strange that Ciri wouldn't return if she was alive.
