From what I've heard (hopefully I'm not repeating what someone else has said) sales of ME3 dropped a huge amount after the first week. I wish I had some proof of this though so for all I know it's probably just speculation. Though considering the exact same thing happened with DA2 I would say it's still a possibility. Also in agreement with you slimgrin regardless of how grim a statement it is. Yes it would be sad they all lost their jobs until the rest of the industry jumps on the chance to grab ex Bioware members for what they used to do.
It's almost certainly true that the sales volume dropped more than is normal for a game post-release, but it would be speculation at the moment - there's no way the numbers are going to be publicly available yet, if ever.
I don't know how the retail prices are controlled as legislation about price controls varies from one country to another, but
- if the retailers themselves are the ones who decided to drop the price, it implies that the product isn't shifting and that they don't think it's going to shift in the near future.
- if it's Bioware/EA who are doing this, it sends a clear message to any remaining fans that there's no benefit in pre-ordering, as you'll save money by waiting a couple of weeks. As gaming companies depend on pre-orders and early-bird buyers for their biggest margin, this only makes sense if EA aren't planning more new Bioware products, and just want to maximise the existing customer base, at any cost, for the sale of DLCs.
Either way, if Bioware does go under because of this, it's just natural selection at work. The competent staff shouldn't have much of a problem finding new jobs, hopefully in companies that have a better corporate culture.
