Not if the true ending was a DLC... you have to pay for. Somehow I can imagine them doing exactly that.

Looks like EA is taking lessons from Capcom.

And it's perfectly logical.

They keep seeing people buying every piece of crappy DLC that developers are releasing these days. Plus, if ME3 is indeed the end of the trilogy, they have to milk that cow as much as they can. So they piss off and dissapoint as many people as they can with the ending so they actually can't refuse to buy the DLC with the ending. I mean, if you invested so much time in 3 games and so much effort in ranting about the ending, you're gonna gnash your teeth and buy the DLC just to find out how it REALLY ends.

Oh, no, if they did, there would be an extra Ending already on the disc and they would make us pay for it.

....Ironically enough, that sounds like something EA would be willing to do.

I'm starting to see some reports that ME3 is already going on sale at some outlets.

(Like this one and this one.)

Isn't this rather early for the discounting to start? I'd expect people who paid full price for it to get even more upset if the sales start less than a month after the launch.

Even if post-release sales are really disappointing, allowing this type of discounting seems counter-productive. There's already probably a large number of Bioware customers who will be reluctant to pre-order the next time because of quality concerns, but this will discourage even their remaining fans.

I'm really starting to doubt if EA intend to keep the "Bioware" name going once they've milked this particular cow, because this approach only works if the only products planned for the future are DLC's, with no new titles.

If Bioware was dissolved tomorrow I wouldn't care.

From what I've heard (hopefully I'm not repeating what someone else has said) sales of ME3 dropped a huge amount after the first week. I wish I had some proof of this though so for all I know it's probably just speculation. Though considering the exact same thing happened with DA2 I would say it's still a possibility. Also in agreement with you slimgrin regardless of how grim a statement it is. Yes it would be sad they all lost their jobs until the rest of the industry jumps on the chance to grab ex Bioware members for what they used to do.

It didn't drop more than in case of ME2.

I would care. It's not my favorite company but they still make a pretty good games and there are very few companies that makes story focused RPGs. Actually I know only 3 of them: RED, BioWare and guys that made Risen. There was also Obsidian but now they are making obscure games (South Park) and soon they might stop making anything (few weeks ago they fired part of their staff). It leaves us with 2 story driven RPGs per year. :p

I'd only care in the sense that there wouldn't be enough competition to CDPR to drive them to excel.

But in and of itself, no I wouldn't care.

It's almost certainly true that the sales volume dropped more than is normal for a game post-release, but it would be speculation at the moment - there's no way the numbers are going to be publicly available yet, if ever.

I don't know how the retail prices are controlled as legislation about price controls varies from one country to another, but
- if the retailers themselves are the ones who decided to drop the price, it implies that the product isn't shifting and that they don't think it's going to shift in the near future.
- if it's Bioware/EA who are doing this, it sends a clear message to any remaining fans that there's no benefit in pre-ordering, as you'll save money by waiting a couple of weeks. As gaming companies depend on pre-orders and early-bird buyers for their biggest margin, this only makes sense if EA aren't planning more new Bioware products, and just want to maximise the existing customer base, at any cost, for the sale of DLCs.

Either way, if Bioware does go under because of this, it's just natural selection at work. The competent staff shouldn't have much of a problem finding new jobs, hopefully in companies that have a better corporate culture.

They are. In US and UK there are official data about sales in retail shops.

In UK it provided by UKIE. In US it's provided by some official organization.

Pretty much, without competition companies become very lazy.

Wow. I'd no idea. Does UKIE give sales data, or just the charts? (I took a quick look but couldn't see it)

Can't blame him I guess. It's like the wolves in an insecure hen house. When gamers are so bloody thick they buy anything no matter how crap it is, why wouldn't companies with no soul and no morals like Evil Arts try to gouge us?

Bioware is just an empty shell these days filled with people more or less like that douchebag. It's been a while since they made a good game, and they won't make another one again. Ever. That era has come to an end.

If another company had released as much filth in the way Bioware have done recently, we'd collectively give them the Activision cold shoulder. Maybe it's on high time we actually do that. Instead of treating it like our mother didn't give us the present we wanted for xmas so we whine and whinge and complain until she does.

I'm quite fine with not buying a new game ever again. If they're shit, why should I? Plenty of good games from the past to play, when gaming companies were still interested in making good games and their halls weren't filled with money counters and marketing shills. For now CDPR makes quality games, so let's hope they continue to do that and aren't just a bit slower down the current Bioware path that so many developers have walked before them.
