Possible solution to stuttering/lag

The stuttering dissapeared after I had changed two settings in the Ati Catalyst Control Center.
Those settings were: "Catalyst A.I." from "Advanced" to "Disabled", and "Wait for vertical refresh" from "On unless application specifies" to "off, unless application specifies".
However after having tested locations from the prologue and the first chapter as well as the tutorial with minimal to no stuttering at all, I switched back all the mentioned settings, one at a time each time I restarted the game beginning with the "Catalyst A.I." setting.
Turned out that I got the same results as before, that is minimal to no stuttering at all. I restarted my computer and started the game and the results were minimal stuttering to none again.
As strange as it may sound, could this be a solution to the stuttering problem? So far it's working for me.
I will post again if i experience stutterings as much as before the changes.

My settings are: 1440x900, Decals on "High spec",
Texture Downscaling on "none",
Texture memory size on "very large",
Shadow quality on "medium",
Number of Shadowed Lights on "medium",
LOD Distance on "normal",
and all the other graphics options are enabled except "Dangling Objects Limit" and "UberSampling".

And my computer:
C2D E8400 3.0ghz
Ati 4890 1gb & Ati 4870 512mb in Crossfire
4gb RAM
Vista 64-bit

Update: these stutterings are not like the ones I had before I used Crossifre, each stutter is longer. In other posts I refer to it as "massive fps drops" as the game pauses for half a second or so each time it stutters, and the FRAPS fps counter shows a massive fps drop each time that happens.

Thread with additional info about massive fps drops and stuttering (frame skip) problems:

Well, I also have ATI graphics (4850) but none of this fixes the stuttering yet.

I had the same problem with the last upgrade before 2.0 and only installing new ATI Catalyst Application Profiles fixed it. SO I likely have to wait for an update of these from ATI to get this thing to work.

I've tried running the tutorial (its been a while since I finished Witcher 2, I need a refresher before the arena) and cannot get past the first 5 seconds of cutscene at the beginning. :>(

Sorry to hear that. Stuttering was never that bad when I played. If I find out more about the stuttering I'll write about it in here.

Update: Perhaps moving your "User.ini" file which is located in the "Documents/Witcher2/Config" folder, to your desktop and then launch the game might be of help. What will happen is that the game launcher will notice that there's missing a "User.ini" file and will create a new one. In this process some settings which are not visible in the "User.ini" file but which could have been changed with the patch 2.0 by accident might get reset. To then keep your settings such as controls and graphics as well as other settings which you have access to trough menus, simply delete the new "User.ini" file and drag back the old one that you moved to your desktop before. Perhaps it will help.
