Potion Effects

This thread will NOT be about discussing the alchemy system!

Lets have some fun with this.
Many strong words and opinions have been thrown around regarding the alchemy system, I am as guilty of this as anyone, so I propose that regardless of which system we end up getting, lets discuss how we think the actual potions themselves could be made more interesting to use =)

I'll get us started with a few ideas I had:

Blizzard - Gives Geralt the ability to perform group-finishers on weaker enemies (only a limited number of times per ingestion)

Wolverine - Geralt deals more damage to additional opponents hit with his sword

Thunderbolt - Increased chance of dealing critical damage and/or staggering an opponent

Petri's Philter - Visually increases the power of Geralt's signs, Aard has greater area of effect and higher chance of knockdown for instance

Aegis - Causes greater staggering when parrying enemy attacks

Malevolence - Increases chance of intimidating opponents (if this is even a thing) Could be made more visceral and make more sense if it increased the brutality of kills, for example increasing dismemberment.

Feel free to make up new potions as well, this is meant to be a fun thread that inflames our imagination and with a little luck (although it's most likely too late) inspires CDPR to implement something along the lines of what we can come up with.

I'm not very good with names, but I think in addition to positive effects of potions it's cool to have negative ones (similar to TW2), but it would be even cooler if you drunk potions to balance each other out in positive and negative aspects.

Gameplay affecting potions:

Whirl or Swirl - Geralt moves and attacks quicker (screen blurring increases), but becomes more susceptible to being knockdown if hit and will recover slower from enemy parries/interrupts.

Augur Medley - Geralt recovers quicker from blocking/parrying (OR is able to attack quicker after a succesful block/parry) because he can predict enemy movement through his training & using this potion as an enhancer (iirc in the books during combat there is a lot mentioning of Geralt being able to predict how his opponents behave in combat, this potion simply improves on it), but he takes increased damage if enemies successfully hit him and his non-forward movement speed is slightly reduced.

Stat affecting potions:

Grey's Draught (haha, no idea what to call it!) - Geralt receives %increased power in the Quen (Quen blocks additional damage, or significantly reduces taken damage) & Yrden (increases stun/snare duration) signs at the cost of %reduced vitality, and %increased damage taken from swords.

Bark - Geralt's armor is %increased at the cost of %reduction of all other resistances. (This one makes a little less sense overall, armor can be replaced with Vitality)

If you guys like those ideas I can create some more, otherwise happy brewing. :)

Edit - Corrected some grammar.

Red Melody - Consecutive attacks on different enemies increase damage by 10% (up to 50%) and increase Geralt's chance to Instant Kill by 2% (up to 10%). Consecutive attacks on the same enemy reduce damage by 7% (up to 35%.) and Geralt takes 7% of his maximum Vitality as magical damage.

Blue Miracle - 20% chance to take no damage from an attack. 55% chance to automatically counter. Maximum Vitality reduced by 40% and all health regeneration is disabled.
Manual countering is disabled.
5% chance to inflict Axii's charm effect with every hit.
10% chance to inflict Yrden's binding effect with every hit.

Black Rhapsody - Geralt's attacks heal him for 15% of the damage done increasing up to 60% as Geralt's health aproaches 0%. All damage taken is increased by 50%.

White Felony - Backstab damage Geralt deals and receives is increased by 100%. Non-backstab damage Geralt deals and receives is decreased by 50%.
Geralt's dodges only cover 75% of the normal distance.

I tried to make these as "Interesting" as possible, but... I don't know. Balancing is hard. T_T

Black Coffee - For a short duration of time Geralt gains superhuman alertness and reflexes.
His movements become twitchy, unpredictable and raise his evasion by 50%.

After the effect wears off, Geralt suffers from "Coffee Withdrawl".
Under this debuff his toxicity bar rises until he drinks another Black Coffee.

I see an infinite spiral of coffee here. It's ciriously unsettling...

Maybe if there was some way of purging debuffs/active effects...

*ahem*

What do you guys think about the custimizations of the anatomy of NPC's in TW3: WH?

So I just saw this YouTube video today.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgowBLb4sKw

So in a new patch for The Elder Scrolls Online you can customize the Player Character's (PC) anatomy blood cells, bones, DNA, etc.

No I am not asking for Geralt of Rivia to be customizable like this. I am asking what do you think if we can create potions like this with alchemy like poison potions that damage a NPC's stomach so they can't eat and they die? I would love to see animations in real time for stuff like this.

After all CD Projekt RED said we will learn about a monsters anatomy from books and that we have to drink potions before we attack the monsters in The Witcher 3: Wild hunt.

Imagine making a acid potion to throw on enemy NPC's and see their skin burn in real time and melt and fall off the bone. Stuff like that. I mean there is dismemberment so why not see skin fall off the bone in real time from acid?

Your reply was deleted, as "lel" doesn't really contribute. Just wondered if you'd like to give a more detailed reply?

That was in the BS new mutation feature thread and "lel" expressed my thoughts perfectly.

Ok please explain to me why you think it's bad? I DID NOT ASK FOR Geralt of Rivia to be customizable like that. All I asked is that it would be nice to see potions mutate the anatomy of NPC's like that like create a poison that does not let a NPC eat. Each time the NPC eats it throws up and dies after a few days. All in real time with animations.

No, I don't think that I would think it "nice" to hang around for a few days to watch something die in real time, complete with occasional vomiting.
And, no, I don't think that it's a change that would add value to the game. Any game, to be honest. Maybe biology simulation software?
And that video you linked is from The Onion, which is a satire.

You don't have to wait a few days to watch the NPC('s) vomit until they die. You can just throw the potion on them or make them swallow it some how and leave and whenever you come back in that area you see the NPC dead.

But there are more possibilities than just making NPC's vomit. You can make them get more weaker to diseases like lets say bandits I guess.

Yeah I agree , its like the change from an action movie to horror or all those movies where ppl get tortured ... thats not cool .. we have dismemberment for sword immersion .. we dont need to add stuff geralt wouldnt do ... like throwing acid flasks at enemys ..... Geralt is a witcher not someone who ... well dont want to continue further

You probably don't but I play video games very differently than you. Everyone plays video games differently. I would love to be able to throw acid on NPC's to see their skin fall off of their bones.

Stuff that immerses me doesn't immerse you. Stuff that immerses you probably doesn't immerse me.

I just think that we already have enough detail when it comes to inflicting wounds ... those things you mentioned dont belong in an action rpg ... thats why I said those are more like traits of horror ... so its crossing a line ...

so I think its out of place ... whether you like those things or not they dont belong in this genre ...even though the rating would allow it... thats my point
