Hello everyone. I'm planing on upgrading my PC. Will it be able to play The Witcher 3 at Ultra. But with the PhysX off because that always takes a lot out of the GPU.
I know the game's system requirements are not out yet. This is just speculation.

Using a monitor with a resolution of 1366 x 768, that may require less stress on the GPU rather than a 1080p monitor.
Radeon 7970 Crossfire
AMD FX-8350 8-Core 4.00 GHz
Motherboard SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0
8GB Ram Note: I can get more ram if need be.
750w Power supply
500 GB HD

Same answer: nobody knows for sure.

That motherboard will not run a Crossfire configuration in any satisfactory way. The second PCI-e slot is only x4. You need a motherboard with a 990FX to make a proper Crossfire configuration. Unfortunately, there are no really good 990FX motherboards; it is as if motherboard makers deserted Socket AM3+.

TW2 had trouble with Crossfire configurations until CDPR and AMD did their homework. I hope Crossfire goes more smoothly with this game.

How about this motherboard SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0?

What do you mean nobody knows for sure? Your saying the SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 dosent work for a 7970 crossfier? The guy in this link says it's good enough.
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1755176/crossfire-mobo-sapphire-7970.html
And i can get a CROSSHAIR V FORMULA if the SABERTOOTH is not enough.

I mean, the system requirements for this game are not known to anybody but CDPR insiders, and because they have not revealed them, nobody else has any way of saying that the game will or will not perform to its maximum ability on any hardware configuration at all. I don't have a problem with making an educated guess that even a single 7970 will be enough to max out the game except for any features that require PhysX or an nVidia GPU, but it is nothing more than a guess.

You didn't have the Sabertooth FX in your post when I stated that the M5A97 was an unsatisfactory motherboard for Crossfire. The Sabertooth FX is definitely good enough for two high-performance GPUs in Crossfire. (Motherboards with 990X, 980G, or 970 chipsets are not. They don't have enough PCI-Express lanes.) I don't like any 990FX motherboards (they all have power, heat, and Southbridge problems), but at least I dislike that one the least :)

Do you have and suggestions of a good motherboard for a 7970 crossfire?

Go with an Intel CPU; it really opens up your choice of motherboards. (A quick look at Newegg shows just 9 990FX motherboards vs. 23 Z77 and 43 Z87 motherboards. I counted only ATX form factor and new-in-box, excluding refurbished, open box, and out of stock.)

You need only a Core i5 model to outperform that AMD FX. They have two different sockets that are still current: LGA 1155 (Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge CPUs) and LGA 1150 (Haswell CPUs).

In LGA 1155 (Sandy Bridge (2xxx) or Ivy Bridge (3xxx) CPU):
ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 or Extreme 6 (I have the Z77 Extreme 6)
Any of the ASUS P8Z77 models
Any of the MSI Z77A models
Any of the Gigabyte Z77X models

In LGA 1150 (Haswell (4xxx) CPU):
MSI Z87 G45 Gaming
Any of the ASUS Z87 models
ASUS Sabertooth Z87 or Maximus VI models
ASRock Z87 Extreme 4, Extreme 6, or Fatal1ty Z87

After reviewing this entire thread my assesment is to wait six months until CDPR has completed enough testing. In the mean time I'll be saving money for a new system and monitor. Hell the cost of the game will be peanuts compared to the new system.

That's too expensive for me. If heat may be a problem i still have to go with that i have no other choice. So i think i will be buying a new 7970 and a new motherboard. But if i go with your build i will have to buy a motherboard, 7970 and a new Intel CPU.
And yes i completely agree with you, i too think that a single 7970 wont be enough to max out the game, that's why i want to crossfire a 7970. I saw this guy that has 2 7970 same as me and he maxed out Crysis 3. And he's using a 1080p resolution and i will be using a 1366 x 768 resolution that may give me some more fps.
I will be saving up money till they release the official system requirements.

If you already have the AMD CPU, then I concede, you might as well get a 990FX motherboard to go with it. If you are buying a new CPU, Core i5's still beat AMD FX's at the same price points.

Most popular. But be prepared to do some tinkering, such as taking off the MOSFETs' heatsink and renewing the thermal paste with something decent, if it runs too hot.
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128514
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131877

Possibly the best of the lot. Much better power handling than the above.
ASRock 990FX Extreme9 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157358

Thanks for the help man. I like the ASRock 990FX Extreme9 but it's to expensive for me now. Maybe some mouths down the line it will get cheaper. But i think i'm going with the ASUS Sabertooth 990FX. Right now i'm using a M5A97 R2.0 motherboard when i change to a better motherboard like a ASUS Sabertooth 990FX will i see a difference in gaming or is it just useful for Crossfire?

You should see a difference with Crossfire; the 970 Northbridge is not really up to Crossfire with high-performance cards. Without Crossfire, you may see little or no difference.

The big difference between the two is the number of PCI-Express lanes. The 990FX has 38 (vs. 22 in lesser 9xx Northbridges). That's how it can deliver full x16 bandwidth to two cards, or x8 bandwidth to as many as four cards. The 970 can run the second card only at x4, which is not enough for a high-performance card.

The 990FX also burns nearly 20 watts for itself, which can be the cause of thermal problems on 990FX motherboards.

But since the 970 can deliver x16 bandwidth to a single card, it isn't a bottleneck in single card configurations, and you won't see much difference except in Crossfire.

I was wondering what you guys think what looks better to you Crysis 3 or The Witcher 3? I still think The Witcher 3 will require better hardware than Crysis 3 and that game is heavy.

Can you run Crysis 3 at Very High setting with that build and have about a average of 60 fps. If not i'm not so sure that you will be able to run the game at Ultra. I think The Wither 3 is going to be very demanding on PCs just look at the latest trailers on HD. There's even a part where Geralt is walking to a city and you can see in front of him that there's like 30 people ahead of him. But Hitman Absolution handled well having a lot of people on screen.

Just guessing, but I'm inclined to agree with you. Crytek has been doing engines as a market product for more than 10 years and has put a lot of effort into R&D. If anybody can get the same level of eye candy out of less hardware, they can.

Same level of eye candy out of less hardware yes that's what i'm hopping as well. I really hope it's well optimized. As CDProjektRed main platform is the PC i have no doubt they will optimized the hell out of that game or at least that's what i hope. I know if need be they will even work on the game for more months to get everything right. But i really think they are getting the game out in 2014. In a interview a developer said that now there tweaking the game.

They did say in an interview that they are taking their time to optimize as best they can, while they were fairly rushed with TW2. I remember the example of water beneath a surface being talked about.

That's good; I'm hoping they get better results with TW3. Still, it's worth remembering that Crytek has probably invested more in engine R&D than CDPR's net worth. They aren't magically going to all of a sudden pass Crytek.

What do you mean by passing Crytek? Like in better engine, better optimization or better graphics?
