Good to know, though it would be nice if CD Projekt could avoid such matters and state with what a trailer was made.It was a baseless rumour from some site called Kdramastars or something.
TW3 wont use DX12 though. Maybe there will be an update later, but still.Well my SLI GTX 580s are due to enter retirement. I'm planning on getting a GTX 880, but they're delayed, and I don't see the point in buying any of the 780s as none of them will have all the bells and whistles DX12 support of the 880s. So it looks like my old work horses will have to do the job come February next year. I can run Wither 2 with Uber Sampling enabled and shadows turned higher than default through a tweaking tool, at a steady 60 FPS, with occasional drops to 50FPS in some areas around Flotsam. What are my chances of running this game near maxed out I wonder? I wish CDPR would just put us out of our misery and tell us the specs already, they must know them at this stage. My fear is that they are keeping quiet because they are astronomical!
Specs:
Core i7 3930K @ 4.5GHz
16 GB Quad Channel DDR 3 @ 1600 MHz
GTX 580 x2 SLI
Windows 7 64 bit
Yeah I know that, but I just don't see the point in buying a 780 series graphics card that will be displaced by a better one in a year at most. So, I'm stuck with my pair of 580s for now. As I said, they must know the specs by now. All the optimisation in the world won't make that much difference in six months or so they have left.TW3 wont use DX12 though. Maybe there will be an update later, but still.
First games with DX12 are expected for late 2015 and existing hardware will support it too: http://techreport.com/news/26199/directx-12-to-support-existing-hardware-first-games-due-in-late-2015
Erm the Pascal architecture ( the one that will release after maxwell ) is planned for 2016. So when you get a 800 card, a year later you will get 900 series cards... Six more months of optimisation can make for a big difference though, so I can understand their reluctance somewhat. I also understand your view on an aging architecture but it might be the only option to max TW3 on release day if no Maxwell appears.Yeah I know that, but I just don't see the point in buying a 780 series graphics card that will be displaced by a better one in a year at most. Read my edit, current hardware will not support all of DX12s features. That is the reason I'm waiting.Erm the Pascal architecture ( the one that will release after maxwell ) is planned for 2016. So when you get a 800 card, a year later you will get 900 series cards... I dont see the difference
Nah, there have been many games released where they carried out optimisations for many months and implemented them through patches. 5FPS is all that was bought.Six more months of optimisation can make for a big difference though, so I can understand their reluctance somewhat. Give me a source for that. mantle also fully supports other architectures than just CGN2.0Read my edit, current hardware will not support all of DX12s features. That is the reason I'm waiting.
When you are trying to max the game and are running at 40 fps or such you would welcome those 5 - 10 fps.Nah, their have been many games released where they carried out optimisations for many months and implemented them through patches. 5FPS is all that was bought.

Of course I'd welcome the 5FPS, but that's not the point. They still know the hardware requirements at this stage. A few FPS gained through optimisation doesn't account for them 'not' knowing. When you are trying to max the game and are running at 40 fps or such you would welcome those 5 - 10 fps.
CD Projekt has also build the engine themselves, so do not count out optimisation just yet.
We do not know for certain though that all they are doing is optimisation. They have an engine team and have said that they keep on working on their new engine.Of course I'd welcome the 5FPS, but that's not the point. They still know the hardware requirements at this stage. Come on now man, you're just making excuses. They know damn well what it took to run the demo at that level of detail yesterday. If it took a 780Ti in SLI yesterday, it will take the same to run it next February. If an SLI 580 can run it at 30FPS, it might run it at 35FPS next February. However, the specs won't change. We do not know for certain though that all they are doing is optimisation. They have an engine team and have said that they keep on working on their new engine.
Plus it is more effective as a marketing tool once the release is nearly upon is.
Oh they surely know what the trailer was running on, no doubt about that. You are really underestimating how much can change in half a year though, that many others devs only provide small boosts does not mean that it applies in every case. And on the marketing standpoint, it is not an excuse but a possible reason. They have little to gain by announcing requirements now when there might be better hardware later and because they are still tinkering performance.Come on now man, you're just making excuses.
