No; Z97 Pro is still the better board. Better circuits, such as its 12-phase power.

Ok. Just wondering, do sound cards have the same issue with CPU connections and MOBOs (i.e., the whole 1155/1150 connector)?

Will a card that's currently connected to a Z77 work with a Z97 board? [I'm using an SB Recon3D PCIe card]

It's not an issue with sound cards. Make sure your motherboard has the right slot for it, and that it won't be covered up by a wide GPU. Most current motherboards have a PCI-e x1 slot above the PCI-e x16 slot that is a good place for a sound card.

Thanks.

And how about R9 280X?
(I'm not the guy who's getting asked, but I'll answer anyway)
That's about the same power level, but as Witcher 3 boasts some of nVidia-specific tech, I'd go with them.

So I guess I'll be getting GTX 770. That should be just about right to run Witcher 3 at 1080p with some cool features enabled :)

Sounds good, I would go with Gigabyte, they have fairly cheap overlocked editions and their coolers are great. The only tricky thing is the 2gb vs 4gb vram question, it is hard to judge if TW3 will use a lot of vram.

Yeah, the VRAM thing is something to be considered. The option for this is R9 290 I suppose, as it boasts 4GB of it with 512 bit memory bus. Then again, Nvidia may be a better option for W3.

Well we know that NVidia is working with CD Projekt for their Hair FX but seeing them working together makes me suspect that Nvidia might be the better option in general. Mind you, that last bit is speculation on my part.

Well, if it fits on my z77 right now, there shouldn't be a problem with the z97 Pro, right?

Ah my mighty MSI Geforce gtx780 lightning will finally get a challenge. Hoping for a ultra setting with most of the eyecandy on at 1080p.

No problem at all. Even with a double-wide GPU installed, you have 3 PCI-e x1 slots available on that motherboard.

The usual problems with sound cards run to OS and driver issues, not motherboard connectivity.

Guy N'wah May I ask where did you get such knowledge about PC hardware?

Been building them (not for a living, though) ever since the '386 was the latest thing.

Also, the company I work for integrates and sends out server products. I'm a userland programmer, not a hardware specialist, but you get a lot of it anyway.

At that point, well, you know what you know, and you know where to look up what you don't know.

A physicist, a mathematician, and an engineer agreed to take an intelligence test. The psychologist handed each one a red rubber ball and asked them to determine its mass.

The physicist got a beaker of water and used Archimedes' Principle to establish the volume and density.

The mathematician measured the ball and integrated over its axis.

The engineer read the model number and looked it up in his red rubber ball catalog.

I saw someone saying that Nividia is working with CDPR to optimize thier cards for TW3, so the "best" path is to buy a GeForce.....So i guess a GTX 680 or even a 770 is the way to go? Wich ATI card could be "equal " to those GTX?

7970 ghz or r280x :)

I think Nvidia is better option than ATI. You know CDPR's working with them so the best game experience you will get using Nvidia graphic cards.
They are not equal, once ATI have bigger support in XYZ game, once nvidia. I prefer ATI cards but if you need it only for witcher 3 nvidia is the best choice.
Btw, I think 770 in enought, you can enjoy it for few more years :) For few months this card will be cheaper so it's worth to wait.

I have a 780ti with an i5 4670k, the problem is I am at 1440p. If I was at 1080 I would be more then confident of maxing this out. As things stand though im wondering if this will struggle to max it at 1440? I would be fine lowering aa to 2x or using no aa at all, perhaps that would work? What are everyone's thoughts? I might add a second 780ti, but if i do it wont be for a while, and the game will most likely be out by the time I do that.

Would be nice if someone could make a guide to a pc build that can max the witcher 3 ... [lowest price possible]
when the specs are released of course

I have my eyes set on a system with 770 gtx or 780 if price drops so far...
Would like to max the settings [no uebersampling] for my movie version ;)

It would take an insider with a copy of the finished game, the game isn't finished, and the insiders aren't going to talk requirements until it is.
