Everyone complaining about sli is making me sort of nervous. Is it really that much extra hassle? I dont want to get rid of my 780 ti just to bump up to an 880 that will probably only be a small performance increase. Adding another 780 ti would be much more performance when the game gets sli support(hopefully at launch)

Well sure. The two 780ti cards will give you loads of performance. If you're not bothered with constantly updating your drivers and sometimes waiting for a while for new games to have multigpu support and don't mind your electricity bill going through the roof, go for it.

Mind you, The Witcher 2 only got SLI support like 3 months after the release. Not saying it'll happen again but still..

We do not have the info to answer that question, it is still way too early. Your rig looks quite powerful though, so I doubt that you will have problems.

Also, Welcome!

I have ran sli in 2 rigs. No issues for me. If a game does not support sli just turn off sli in the Nvidia control panel. In fact I had third sli rig now I dust the cob webs out of my head. I had an amd cpu/motherboard with 7800gtx in sli back in 2008ish or so. It was more finicky back then. Now it is really smooth and scaling has come along way. I would stay away from dual gpu single cards though. I would not hesitate to run 2 separate gpus. I think it is more myth.....an old wives tale....or hearsay at this point. That said your xp may be different than mine.

Regardless if you run one or two cards you need to update drivers regularly. That just comes with the territory that is PC gaming. That is why Nvidia made software such as GeForce Experience to help solve the "hassle" for new members to the Master Race

If I was you i would upgrade to Windows 8.1 but other than that you have a nice stout rig. SHould run W3 just fine within reason. Your goal IMHO is achievable.

Didn't CDPR say that the console versions (or PS4) will run at the equivalent of High PC settings? Although they did not say at what frame rate and resolution..

So the amount of times you update drivers with sli is the same as the amount you update them without sli? I admit I was confused by the wording, I don't see why you would have to update drivers any more often with an sli rig, as both cards would update at the same time, correct?

Basically yes, I update to all new drivers be they Beta or WHQL certified. The only difference to be worried about is if a game has an sli profile. If it does the Driver patch notes will state as such. The witcher 2 did not have sli at first. There was a new driver release for the game but the sli driver came later. I suspect W3 will have proper sli and 3d support from day 1.

I GOT A GOLDEN CHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!! In fact it is stable at 4.7 on air but the voltage and the temps is to high for my taste at that oc.

I think he meant that it should be 4.6Ghz, not 4.6Mhz.

lmao silly me........I feel so retarded at the moment.....I fixed it......still 4.6 on air stable 24/7 is a golden chip for haswell. most are 4.5 or so....
On liquid I think I push it 4.8 stable maybe a lil high on the volts....

Gotta love typos :D

But anyways, hopefully my 4790k overclocks well. Bought a Corsair H100i liquid cooler so temps wise I probably shouldn't have too much issues.

So far, 5.5 GHz on air, 7.0 GHz on LN2 (Nick Shih of Asrock did the 7 GHz). That's not as massive as it sounds: stock clock is 4.0 GHz. Intel did the packaging right this time around; the Devils Canyon chips are much easier to cool.

Do these extreme speeds net you much more performance in games? My i5 4670k has a very small overclock(The motherboard I use has an oc button called the oc genie I just used that and it gave me a nice little bump) but as far as I understand you wont bottleneck even the most powerful of gpus with like a clock of 3 ghz, is this true?

Hard to say, without actually having a CPU-bound game to run on them :) When the CPU is there mostly to put actors on their marks, run scripts, and schedule I/O for a single renderer thread, an extra 4 bogocores or 500 MHz isn't going to be noticed. When we get into heavy multithreaded rendering the way Mantle and DX12 are made to support, CPU cycles may become more precious.

I do remember that in Skyrim my FPS skyrocketed when running a heavy CPU overclock vs standard clocks. But afaik it was only because Skyrim is a CPU bound game that still only takes advantage of 2 CPU threads..
