That's some bady luck :/
I know how you fell. I've recently built a new rig also and I was having a persistent Blue Screen Crash failure (Memory Dump). After a loot of distress I manage to work it out (sound drivers conflict)
Maybe you need to update your BIOS? In the worst caise you will have to sendo your Motherboard to the RMA. Your hardware are still with garanty, right?

The motherboard is definitely broken. I mean I spent about 13 hours yesterday fiddling with it. There is something wrong with the sata ports which most likely happened due to the PSU failure. All the other parts (CPU, memory, Liquid Cooling system etc) seem to be working flawlessly. (thankfully)

Will RMA both the MB and PSU. The problem is that I bought them from separate places so if the store I bought the MB from deduces that the MB didn't break on its own I might have to get a new one. :/

Yes, very lucky, I had a new 1000w evga PS take out evrything but a cpu on my last build. Talk about pissed.....but hey that is what warranties are for and stuff happens. If PC gaming was easy and cheap everybody would be doing it. I like the fact it is sort of an exclusive club. I like new members but it is nice it takes effort and money so only people who really want to be PC gamers are PC gamers.

I would prefer more pc gamers. that would result in more attention from the Gaming Companies.
The Steam Machines are coming, so it's a possibility that Pc Gaming will become more acessive (although, at least here in Brazil, you can build a good Pc with the same amout of money you would need to buy a Xbox One or a PS4

I see that side of the argument too.........trust me I do.
The reason I will stick to my guns though, is you have less 12 year old kids on PC that have apparently banged my mom and are invincible bad asses...........
Typically by the time they can afford a good gaming PC they will have grown up.

Steam Machines are cool. I am not so sure they will be a BIG hit yet. Time will tell as with all things. If they do great and if not, no big deal. I do like the fact you can have a non window machine for gaming though.

I have to agree with you. Those kids are one of the reasons I've never cared about multiplayer games so much (specially COD and Battlefield), and another reason I don't mind having consoles (athough I really wanted to play GoW 3 :/ ).
Yes, only time will tell. But Valve iniciative is a good one. It's always welcome other O.S in a market where one rule over them all, the penguin is difficult for common users and the apple is expensive and strange to use (in my opinion).

Hello!

Just a question for the PC savvy here..I have an Alienware m17x r4, has an i7 3610qm (ivy bridge quad core) and a 7970m. 8gb hd..

It plays witcher 2 maxed no problem. Think I can hang with 3 or time to sell an buy a new laptop?

My PC at home is a Liquid Cooled 9590fx on a sabertooth 990 board, backbone is a evga GTX 780ti. I just like to hook up my laptop at my office so I can game while I handle business. No wife or screaming kids :)

Any ideas of a good game that will be a litmus test for performance? I've heard bf4, but I just need some clarity. I'm looking for all the eye candy. Maxed no questions 30+ fps.

Thanks!!

I think you will handle the game very well on both (on the desktop you will surely hit the ultra settings).

I think Crysis 3 and Watch Dogs can help you to test your setting. I don't recomend Bf4. I runned it on a Core2Quad 3.0 with a HD 5750 1Gb on Medium/High settings, it's not that demanding. I think Assassins Creed Unity and GTA V might also help at that.

I think we will know the requirements and minimal and recomended system in maybe 2/3 months, so it's worth to wait a bit. Don't change your laptop yet :D

Hi and welcome!

Your best option is to wait until the release of TW3 is close. Not only will we know the specs CDPR is aiming for, but you'll also save money. Prices are likely to fall or there might even be new hardware available by that time, that offers more power for the same price. You shouldn't buy a PC now for a game that is still more than half a year away.

Keeping those 28nm nodes make me wary.

They have little choice. Fabless company, and no public 20nm capacity they can book.

AMD isn't in a much better position: they have some 20nm designs, but I think they are new APUs, not discrete GPUs, and they won't be ready for production until next year. They're going 28nm on the new GCN 2.0 series (starting with the Tahiti upgrade, 'Tonga').
