So what you are saying is optimization has nothing to do with a high end graphics card possibly being able to run better? What I meant about ultra or very high settings is just the presets not ubersampling or AA. Of course it will be taxing on everything.

Got my evga gtx 980 today, retired my sapphire 5970.

I can't wait for this game to release.

No, what I'm saying is that optimization has nothing to do with reducing the maximum capabilities of the game until these can be run on a computer that is not high-end. Your examples of a 760 and 770 haven't been high-end at any time in their product lives.

A well-optimized game should deliver a better experience on, say, an SLI pair of 980s than on, say, a single 770. If it does not, then it is not optimized, it is limited.

Nice. I'm waiting for the 980s to come back in stock.

You should wait instead.. everyone here is upgrading (or act like that) WITHOUT in fact knowing what for at all :troll: :D

I never mentioned the 760. Of course high end cards should deliver a better experience than lower end ones. That was not what I was saying. I'm saying that regardless of the med to high end cards, they most likely will run better when the game launches than currently or the E3 build. That is because this game is being optimized properly. Med to high end cards would run worse if not for CPR spending a good amount of time optimizing the game. I am including them making the game more visually stunning as well.

This game will be a crazy beast and even more so when the game officially launches. If the rumors are true that the consoles could run the game at around high settings, then would it not be correct that video cards better than what's in the PS4 should be able to run it faster and increase in quality? Of course depending on the card at hand.

I didn't mean to start an argument. Perhaps It was wrong of me to assume things still 5 months away. Still this is my most anticipated game and will be building a new rig soon powered by a 970. Hope it will be enough :/

There is nothing else coming out in terms of GPUs in the TW3 timeframe, except maybe AMD's offerings in 2 days. So it's a good time to upgrade that.

Your most welcome :)

We don't know anything about what goes into Ultra settings or how efficient these will be. If Ultra includes anything closely resembling Ubersampling, it will still tax the high end of available hardware. If it includes a lot of expensive GameWorks features, it will also tax anything you can throw at it.

Optimization does not mean cutting the game down to fit intermediate hardware or consoles. That's not optimization, that's dumbing down. Optimization means writing it to run at maximum performance and take advantage of all the resources available to it on the highest available hardware.

Predictions that the game will play at Ultra on intermediate hardware are not realistic from what we know of the history and the intentions of the developers.

Agreed though optimization also means making it work equally or quiet close on most of the platforms. If Nvidia specific features (not talking about PhysX) start to bog AMD cards then it will be disappointing but since both consoles use AMD hardware then it's less likely to happen.

To all those who have 780, 780 Ti, R9 290, R9 290X and jumping fast on 970 and 980, I personally think they should wait a bit. Although 970 and 980 are great cards they don't bring any substantial performance improvement over above mentioned cards, the difference is even lower in actual game benchmarks, their main area of improvement is power requirement and thus cooling. I think guys who have current high end cards and getting 970/980 just because of critics hyping them should wait until bigger Maxwell cards arrive. In addition to that AMD will announce something on 25th of September, it's not clear if it's a GPU related announcement but Roy Taylor tweeted towards Nvidia so that's worth noting.

Yeah optimization in both ways.

I personally like AMD but Nvidias' physx is why I'm choosing a 970 for my first pc build in November. And of course cost. Wish AMD would come up with something similar. Maybe they will with their new cards.

Not so sure about that, Nvidia could anounce something like a new Ti gpu.. but apart from that, if the upgrade is based only or mostly for ONE single game (TW3) I'd rather have the game in my hands + see lot of benchmarks and collect info + wait for optimized drivers + wait for some game Patches (which, condidered the open-world nature of the game, will probably be necessary)... and then I can think about buying in safety.. :) now we don't even have the actual recommended specs, which btw do not say much, so in the end I think that given the possibility of waiting, it should be done :)

I tend not to compare hardware directly console-pc.. Consoles always use much better their (fairly low) resources

@ bananalint

I got a Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC month ago and cannot afford to change it just yet because buying is great in my country but selling not that much. I too am concerned about the usage of PhysX feature and that it will be costly for AMD users but guys here on another thread mentioned that the latest PhysX SDK 3.x is very optimized for CPU and Metro Redux is built on that, so out of curiosity I borrowed the game from my friend and tried it myself and it appears they are right the Advanced PhysX feature which was a killer previously no longer affect performance that much, in fact the fps were quite smooth.

Now how that will work in TW3 engine along with other costly features like HBAO+, PhysX Clothing/Destruction, Hairworks remains to be seen. I hope it goes well and I don't have to dump my card.

The APEX Clothing and Destruction are a 'default' in the game, not an option you turn on or off so you can understand that it won't have a severe performance impact, they're also going to be present on the console version. You can see cloth physics in many games these days so that's nothing to worry about.

Judging by your calmness, do you know some inside news on the progress of optimization and how the game is running ? tell us man, I buy you a drink lol :D

Yeah you do have a point there. However I'd like to think since CPR is PC first, that the optimization would be closer to console quality. Though it may not be possible because of so many variables with each individual rig. So many PC games are lazy ports. It's refreshing to see devs put PC first.
@tahirahmed

That's good to hear. Hopefully it will continue to work for all games that have advanced physX.

Dual GTX980 SLI enough for TW3 in 4K?

Highest settings, no AA, with a reasonable and steady fps?

I' upgrading from a 470 ti a 980 next week and getting a second 980 and 4K monitor in Fed for TW3, I think.

You can probably run it at 4k with everything turned on with two of those. At this point it's wait and see.

This got me thinking, are there any review sites that go into the more technical aspect like TB does? talking about frames with different settings and system set-ups?
