Preparing for Ansel in The Witcher 3

+
Just go to this directory : C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Ansel\Tools then click on 'NvCameraConfiguration' you will see
'nvcamerastatus=disabled' just enable it and enjoy !

Ok, it works thanks for the help.

Damn half of the interest just disappeared for me... Wanted to make some cool screenshot but I didn't necessary need to explore the cut-scene... A way to pause the cut-scene would be cool.
You have a mod that can pause the game @skacikpl might know more about it, i just use friendlyhud which i believed incorporated the original code (works even in cut-scenes)
Debug console give you freecam.
ansel not launching when the game is paused or in a cutscene is probably just a little bug that will be fixed by patch or even by mod..

I don't know if it is possible to move geralt around in the world as the ansel camera is taking his shoots for a super res capture?
that's really the thing that bother me most with that feature which is basically just stretching your resolution of a part of your screen whithout using the highest textures and renderings of what is on that particular part of the screen..

There are probably many things imaginable or desirable with a cam function, and many people are now complaining about things they are missing in Ansel. But I think we shouldn't forget that it is a technology that was implemented in the graphics driver. It's not a game specific feature, it's not a mod - but is supposed to work in many games.

It is basically a not-game-specific freecam and some photoshop-ing (aside from the 360°), nothing else. My understanding is that it just copies what is displayed on the screen, it doesn't change settings or anything. If there isn't enough foliage in the distance or animals half buried in the ground - well, that's nothing Ansel could change. It can only show and magnify what is already there. This not working in cut scenes is a pity, because there are pic-worthy scenes there as well, but maybe it doesn't work, since the cut scenes are not stoppable in the game anyway and therefor not in Ansel, either? It's my idea for an explanation anyway...

There are always ideas for improvement and I'm pretty sure, NVIDIA will implement more interesting features in the future. All in all, I must say that I like the new possibilities very much and am happy with what we got. :thumbup:

Yeah maybe with a mod or with a game build up with ansel possibilities in mind, so the super rez capture isn't waist on low textures.
I'm really liking it tho, even buy a card board to enjoy my pics on the phone in vr :)

It's just release so it's not perfect yet, i was just trowing ideas ;)

As far as I know, it does require some work on the game developers' side to integrate Ansel, even if it can be made to work with only a small amount of effort (something like 150 lines of code was mentioned for The Witcher 3, even less for another game). So, I think it should be possible for example for a game to temporarily switch to ultra (or better) settings while creating a screenshot with Ansel, and then revert to the previous configuration, but this needs to be implemented by the developers of the game.

Friendly HUD is the original code :)

There are two types of cut-scenes in TW3: real time and pre-rendered. Pause works for real time ones and doesn't work for pre-rendered ones.

Wouldn't that ask too much of computers that can only run the game on lower settings? I mean, you'd think everyone would play on highest settings possible for his machine. So what would happen, if Ansel would switch to ultra? Game freeze? Computer freeze? I totally understand the need for brilliant screenshots, I'm a junkie myself in that regard, but I can only work with what my computer can provide. So I'm not sure such an implementation would make much sense...

@Krevitz: wasn't there a part with an Android App that enables you to watch the 360° even without Cardboard? I thought I saw something like that in the NVIDIA E3 video.

Well, it is already possible to create screenshots at resolutions that would normally be unplayable on any current hardware like 19200x10800. So, it would also make sense to be able to use higher than the usual settings for the time of rendering the one frame that is captured, even if it is not as easy to implement.

@Wasteland_Ghost my bad :)

@Ginfizz, it make sense since you don't really need framerate for a screenshot, if you could momentaraly boost your settings as you don't draw new frames if wouldn't matter

you can see 360 images on full screen or vr with nvidia vr viewer, so if you're ok with the fullscreen you don't need cardboard, i just wanted to test vr with it, cheaper than buying a rift to try out (not the same but it's just to give a general idea)

@sv3672 , @Krevitz

thx for the explanations, guys. I'm not a tech expert or modder, just doing my best to understand the machine in front of me ;) I'm still wondering though, if rendering of such a pic wouldn't be too much for machines that can only run TW in low settings - considering how long even my pc needed to do it :D Of course, if the discrepancy isn't sooo big, it would indeed offer more options.

Very true, I'd like to check VR out, too, but nor for that price. So far I'm perfectly happy with NVIDIA 3D Vision, it's enough 3D for me for the time being ;)

May I ask another question? Which file format are the Ansel shots actually?? It says .jpeg but I can't open them in Irfan, Photoshop or Bridge nor upload to Photobucket. How can I acess the pics, how did you manage to upload yours?

you play on low because you need to have 20 or more frames each second, when you pause you stay on one frame, and you can take the time you need to draw it..

the visualisation works with nvidia vr viewer on phone or the windows default viewer, heard something about getting the raw data for photoshop but i'm not sure where they are and how to adjust ansel's settings..

I'am playing with an azert keyboard. Anyone knows how to set up oneself keys? Ansel switch automaticly to qwerty. Thanks guys !

Edit: I can't find where screen are stocked as well :(

oes anyone knows how to post screenshots in 360 that moves? i i take screenshots in 360 but they are deformed images :s

Because that's their default format, you need a program, be it an application or web application that will present them properly.

Yeah, I guess so. Other people must have found something, but I've just spent over an hour searching and trying different things, but nothing so far. At least nothing that's at my disposal. Oh well. Maybe something will come up. I love to use my screenshots to create wallpapers and at the moment it looks as if I can take the most spectacular screenshots now without being able to use them. What a bad joke :'(

Found the pictures but I still can't find how to change keybindings without changing from azerty to qwerty...

I can't help you with the keyboard, but to find the screens, check c:\programs\NVIDIA\Ansel\Tools or something similar, find the NVCameraConfiguration.exe. There you can check and change the place, where they are stored.
