what do you guys think? prisoners was a really good movie so i'm more optimistic now that this movie will not be trash
with principle photography starting in summer 2016 blade runner 2 could release pretty much in the same year that cyberpunk 2077 will come out

I hate to sound llike the old man annoyed at the kids in his lawn, but Im really, REALLY sick and fed up with this "sequels" trend we're being bombarded with.

You have a very good story (executed like a masterpiece) that dont need to have a continuation or "sequel".

If you have some good ideas, COME UP WITH ANOTHER STORY, with other characters. It even can be in the same world, and have a small reference to the orignal (it's called a "wink" to the fans). But having the same main character return it's a travesty, only an underhanded trickery to sell a mediocre or sub-par story as "more of the same" of the original, with obvious financial objectives.

With the last turds he's forced upon his fans, I have lost all my faith in Ridley Scott as a storyteller, and lets face it, Harrson Ford was never a character actor, he's been great as an action hero with some gravitas, but now he's like 70 years old... The director is very good (I've seen "Incendies" and "Prisoners", but hey, even Fincher couldn save Aliens 3, right?

Im VERY skeptical and pesimistic with this, and have a feeling that in the best case scenario, it will be an "OK" flick, that didnt need to be told. You just cant reproduce masterpieces at will, you're just forcing the creation process.

That is just my 2 cents regarding this anyway. :p

If this had been shoved out just a couple of years after the original, or, more likely, right after, then I'd agree with you. However, given the fact that it has been well over thirty years, it is pretty safe to conclude that they wouldn't even be making this movie unless they had a really good story to tell.

And a couple years ago, I'd agree with you, but, ah, Prometheus. It broke all my faith levers. At once. "Run SIDEWAYS,you fool?" "No, no, do NOT play with the penis-shaped lifeform in the creepy chamber!" "You did all this so you can live longer?! Really?! What are you, a super villain?" Etc.

Well, I actually liked Prometheus, so...

Oh, you might enjoy this then:

Lots of it is silly, some of it is accurate. I laughed. "Ghost Rider Mount Rushmore"

I assume Decker not being a replicant is canon now since there's no way one would live to be as old as Harrison Ford is?

just be glad nolan isn't touching this

I'm actually glad that Scott isn't directing it since(unlike Nolan) I can't remember the last even decent movie from him.

Anyways,Villeneuve is in my opinion a great choice.I just recently watched Enemy and it was overall a pretty good movie.

Gladiator? Ahhh...yeah. Gladiator. That's what springs to mind for me. No idea about this Villeneuve guy.

I haven't been too keen on Ford's acting lately. At least Scott isn't directing. Man, that guy's creative fall was swift and final.

Yeah Gladiator, that was like 15 years ago.You should definitely watch Prisoners and Enemy. Both of these movies star Jake Gyllenhaal and I wouldn't be surprised if he was in this as well.

Harrison Ford probably would not carry the weight of the story in this new movie. Similarly, as in the new Star Wars movie, a new generation of characters will be the starring cast.

In both cases I assume he appears to give it a sense of continuity and why not because Han Solo and the original Deckard sell more tickets.

This is the new trend in Hollywood, nothing is sacred.

Ridley Scott’s original Blade Runner is a film that’s revered for its look. However, cinematographer Jordan Cronenweth rarely gets the credit. Instead, it usually goes to his director, production designer, set designer and others. With director Denis Villeneuve‘s sequel now in the works, fans were certainly wondering if the look of the new film could live up to that universal praise. That answer is now, undoubtedly, yes.

The cinematographer for Villeneuve’s last two films, Roger Deakins, will be shooting Blade Runner 2 when the cameras role next year. Deakins shot Prisoners and the upcoming Sicario for the director, as well as Fargo, The Shawshank Redemption, The Big Lebowksi, Skyfall and many others. He’s famously been nominated for 12 Cinematography Oscars without winning one. Read more about Roger Deakins Blade Runner 2 below.

The Roger Deakins Blade Runner 2 news broke at Cannes, where he’s in attendance with Villeneuve to debut Sicario. Here’s the full press release:

i don't know how many of you are familiar with roger deakins as a cinematographer but this is really really exciting news
the dude is among the best in his line of work (just watch the nlatest james bond movie if you don't believe me) at now i'm pretty sure that we will see some incredible cyberpunk visuals in blade runner 2 at the very least
