Problem with Gwent? Getting owned by the AI? Want some tips? call: 0800-SCORCHED

They are arguably the weakest faction.
I regularly end the round with something 'fairly' equal on the first round and zero opponent score on the second winning round, or alternatively an opponent zero score on the first and an overwhelming advantage in the second.
Very rarely I get a poor hand and the game can run *much* closer, while for Northern or Nilfgaard the exchange of spies can make a weak start hand into a strong hand almost every time... with the balance that his hand gets stronger too.

A common mistake is to carry too many cards in your deck. You really only want 22-23 cards plus 6-8 modifiers in either Nilfgaard or Northern decks, and not *much* more than that for monsters or Scoi'atel. You also may want to *exclude* some of your weaker hero cards (even down to reducing the number of 10s) in the two Ns decks. The only really useful ones that should be kept regardless are Danelion, Avall'ach & Yennefer, but you hand *could* be stronger without any others. I don't run such an extreme hand ~ keeping the two 15s and a couple of 10s, but I will often drop a 10 hero in preference to a "useful" card at the round start.

Not ever GWENT player reward you with a card?

I don't know if it a bug or not but the innkeeper down in Downwarren did not reward me with any card after I beat him? I'm now glad that I unleash the Black Mare onto that awful village.

I also didn't get any card after beating 2 out of the 3 players in Whoreson casino. I don't care about Crowd, Oren, or Floren, I only care about the damn CARDS.

There's no inkeeper in Downwarren as far as I remember, there's a merchant that plays qwent though. Also the players in the casino are not supposed to give you any cards, you just play gwent to advance the story.

Okay then I meant the merchant then. Did he reward you with any card? I didn't get any from him. He a cheater.

Yes he did, but he is one of the "random" opponents and I played him early in the game. There's a number of cards that you get from random merchants. After a while even if you play these guys they won't give you any cards since you already have them. They will give you random items instead.

Oh I see. I thought that every new merchants you play would give you a new card so that suck to know. I think I'm running out of GWENT opponents until I reach the island.

In my opinion monster are far to strong the overall balance is good but monsters are just broken wil there be an update or will it stay that way?

Are you talking about the AI playing monsters, or you playing monsters?
If it's the AI, then the first few players you meet who do this tend to have weak overall decks - whenever they play a monster with "muster" capabilities, they're taking cards from their playing hand instead of their deck, which reduces the number of cards they have left. If you push them to play a lot of cards in the first round and then pass early, it's easy for them to have nothing left by the third round. Later, they play better, but you would also have a good hand by then and, as O-o-odrin says, you can hit them with weather and scorch.
If it's you playing with monsters, then it doesn't really matter which deck you use, you should be able to beat anyone by late game.

Could be. As Ariannan says, some of the "random card" opponents won't give cards, as there are more players than cards available, and they're distributed around the gameworld.

I say we don't have enough GWENT players in this game. Even if I wanted to play GWENT unlimited I can't and have to continue the story for that to happen.

Monster Deck, very easy to deal with if AI used it. Just bring Villentretenmerth and decoy cards if u dont like biting frost affecting your melee. I really like this Villen with decoy, its like you are hammering him!
Best combo is biting frost then Villen against monsters.

I'm level 55 in the game and on my second play through, my Gwent deck is very good! I only use 22 unit cards, that way, I always get the best of my deck. I use Foltest to clear weather and keep only one Frost card which is useful when going up against those pesky Monster Decks. I usually wait close to the end when the Monster Decks start stacking it's cards then, I pull out my Frost card and send them to hell. I won the high stakes game which was fun.

How did you get to level 55?

Maybe he grinds too much or used the spawning cyclops in skellige or used the path of warrior quest for earning xp points?

After passing certain level cyclop gives only 2-3 XP. Most likely console commands if on PC. But I don't get the point of doing that on PC. If I could use console command (I'm on PS4) then I'd just spawn magical acorn for 2 skill points over and over untill unlocking all skills leaving the level intact.

Good tips for gwent is make sure you have spys and healers and at least two matching cards and a commanders horn and most importantly hero cards

Spies and decoy ftw.

But hey just a thought.. the game should totally give you 2-3 XP for every gwent win. It would take too long to use gwent to farm XP, but it kinda make sense that you should get a bit of XP for it right?

Hi

Can someone give me a link to a site that tells what all the cards do?
I've looked but I don't find anyplace that shows the cards and describes there function clearly.

Scorch for instance, I just got one and when I played it, it was my cards that disappeared?

Also you can play it on the board or in the bonus slot at the start of the row.
Does it affect what it does?

I still haven't figured out why I never get to play my leader card when my opponent does it all the time?

Mike

Gwent used to be hard for me. Then I figured out Decoy is god. Return spies, re-use medics and Villentretenmerth, bring cards back to hand for the next round, Gotta say if I had to pick the strongest card in the game it would probably be Decoy, followed shortly thereafter by Mysterious Elf and Villentretenmerth.
