Prologue trouble – advice needed for new player

Hello. I have just got The Witcher and I love it, but I am stuck at the fight with Savolla in the Prologue. I have the FCR mod and I am playing on 'hard' difficulty. I am aware that I could probably complete this fight on easy difficulty, however seeing as how I cannot change the difficulty in-game and having done some research on these forums, I want to stick with 'hard'.My problem is that Savolla's 'inferno' power is killing me every time. I cannot use the swallow potion, as I am already under the influence of the Thunderbolt potion and the Tawny Owl potion, so the toxidity of taking a healing potion kills me. I tried ignoring Triss and not taking the Tawney Owl potion before the fight, taking the Swallow potion instead, and this helped a lot but it was still too hard. Some questions: can I block Savolla's magical attacks in any way (for example by using the group sword style) whilst killing his four guards? Can I dodge his magical attacks? Do his magical attacks cause more damage if they hit me from behind, or is it all the same? Should I find a way to remove the effects of the Thunderbolt potion (-50% to my defences) before this battle? Any help appreciated. I must have tried this over thirty times with no success.

Thank you Max, I looked at the video and tried the same strategy. About 95% of the time Savolla hits me with the 'incenerate' power, and I die within five seconds of that. The other 5% of the time he misses and I can defeat all four guards and start working on him, however I have not yet beat him. My main problem is the incenerate power. Is there anything I can do about that?EDIT: Ok I kept trying and eventually I did it. Thanks for the help; its very difficult.

Speed is what you need. You must move really fast. I would use Swallow instead of Tawny Owl. Ignoring Triss is a good idea :)Eat something. Food makes life restore faster. Drink something. Drinking make stamina restore faster. Make your sword sharper by using whetstone (you can find one near Aard stone).Which version of FCR you play with? You can't protect your self against magic. Even without Thunderbolt potion every magic attack will hit you. You just have to kill Savolla before he kills you :)You can use Aard only once during fight. Wait until Savolla is wounded (less then 50% of his life). Aard is more efficient then.
