Dear CD PROJEKT RED Team,I would like to share an idea about the future of the Cyberpunk series and, more specifically, about V's story.
First, I want to say that I completely support the decision to introduce a new protagonist in the next Cyberpunk game. I believe a new character is a great opportunity to explore a different perspective, new motivations, new relationships, and new parts of the Cyberpunk world.
However, I also believe there is a way to continue V's story without replacing or overshadowing the new protagonist.
Don't replace V. Don't replace the new protagonist. Let them coexist.
A Major V-Focused Story DLC
My suggestion is a large story expansion for the next Cyberpunk game that brings V back in a meaningful way.V would not need to become the main protagonist of the entire game. Instead, the DLC could tell a story in which the new protagonist and V eventually become connected.
The most important feature of this DLC, in my opinion, would be Cyberpunk 2077 save import.
The game could recognize the player's previous choices and use them to determine what happened to their version of V.
This would allow CD PROJEKT RED to continue V's story without declaring one specific Cyberpunk 2077 ending to be the definitive canon.
Every Player Could Have Their Own V
Instead of creating completely separate campaigns for every ending, the DLC could use the player's Cyberpunk 2077 save to change important details of V's story. The main storyline could remain largely the same, while the player's previous choices could affect:
- V's introduction and starting circumstances
- Dialogue and conversations
- V's relationships with returning characters
- References to events from Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty
- Side missions
- Locations and encounters
- V's reputation
- Certain gameplay elements and equipment
- Some major story decisions and outcomes
Most importantly, players would feel that their V is still their V.
Different Endings, Different Futures
The player's ending could still have a major influence on V's future. The Sun
V could continue as a legendary mercenary and potentially become involved in another major heist, possibly leading toward the Crystal Palace storyline or an entirely new adventure. The important thing would not necessarily be to recreate the exact story players expected after The Sun ending, but to acknowledge that this is the future they chose for their V.
The Star
V could remain connected to the Aldecaldos and continue searching for a way to survive. This could also allow the story to explore life outside Night City and give more attention to the people V chose to leave the city with.
The Tower
The Tower ending could provide an especially different type of story.V has lost the ability to live as the mercenary they once were. Instead of simply trying to return to their old life, the DLC could explore V adapting to an entirely new existence.
This could give V one of the most personal and emotional stories in the entire series.
Other Endings
Other endings could influence V's circumstances, relationships, dialogue, and references without requiring completely separate campaigns. The goal would be simple:
No ending needs to be declared the one true canon ending.
The player's save file could determine what happened to their V.
V and the New Protagonist Could Meet
I believe this could be the most exciting part of the idea. The new protagonist should remain the main character of Cyberpunk 2.
V would not replace them.
Instead, the new protagonist could initially know V only through rumors, stories, and reputation.
Depending on the player's Cyberpunk 2077 save, people might describe V differently.
One person might say:
Another might say:"V? That merc? They're a legend."
Someone else might say:"V is dead."
The new protagonist could gradually discover what actually happened."V left Night City a long time ago."
Eventually, their paths could cross.
This would create a natural bridge between Cyberpunk 2077 and the next game while still allowing the new protagonist to have their own identity and story.
V Could Become a Major Supporting Character
V does not need to be the protagonist of the entire DLC.In fact, I think V would work better as an important supporting character.
The player could experience most of the DLC through the new protagonist, while V becomes increasingly important to the story.
At certain key moments, however, the player could take control of V again.
This would allow longtime players to experience V's gameplay, voice, personality, and abilities one more time.
It could also make those moments much more meaningful because V would not simply be playable all the time.
The player would be waiting for the moment when they finally get to step into V's shoes again.
Why This Could Work
I believe this approach could benefit both the players and CD PROJEKT RED.It would allow the studio to:
- Introduce and fully develop a new protagonist.
- Preserve the player's choices from Cyberpunk 2077.
- Give V's story a meaningful continuation or conclusion.
- Avoid making one particular ending the definitive canon.
- Reward players who have invested hundreds of hours into V.
- Make Cyberpunk 2077's choices matter in the next game.
- Create a stronger emotional connection between the two games.
- Bring back familiar characters and relationships when appropriate.
- Give V fans something meaningful without taking the spotlight away from the new protagonist.
V belongs to the player.
Every player created their own V, made their own choices, built their own relationships, and reached their own ending.
A continuation should respect that.
A Story About Two Legends
There could also be an interesting thematic contrast between the two protagonists.Cyberpunk 2077 could represent the story of V becoming a legend.
Cyberpunk 2 could introduce a new character who is trying to create their own legend.
The DLC could then bring those two stories together.
The new protagonist might have heard stories about V without ever knowing whether those stories were true.
Then, eventually, they meet the person behind the legend.
That could create an emotional moment not only for the characters, but also for players who spent hundreds of hours with V.
The Goal Isn't to Bring Back the Past
I don't think the purpose of this DLC should be to make Cyberpunk 2 another Cyberpunk 2077.The purpose should be to acknowledge that Cyberpunk 2077 happened.
V's story happened.
The player's choices happened.
And that history should have a place in the future of the Cyberpunk universe.
The next game can move forward with a completely new protagonist while still respecting the character who introduced millions of players to Night City.
I understand that there would be significant technical, narrative, and development challenges involved in making this possible. I also understand that CD PROJEKT RED may have completely different plans for V and the future of the series.
This is simply an idea from a player who believes V deserves a meaningful continuation — not necessarily another full game, but one final opportunity to see where their story could lead.
Don't replace V.
Don't replace the new protagonist.
Let them coexist.
Cyberpunk 2077 gave us V's story.
Cyberpunk 2 can give us a new legend.
And a major story DLC could give us the opportunity to discover what happened to the old one.
Thank you for continuing to build the Cyberpunk universe and, most importantly, for continuing to listen to the community.
