[ProTip] +Crossfire Performance

I have two Radeon 6850 running Crossfire, and in crowded areas with lots of NPC's my FPS goes down to 38/45 fps.
I don't know why, but i never cared too much... i thought it was normal.

But its not normal. Its a bad Crossfire Profile and you can improve it using another profile in RadeonPro.
This is what you need: RadeonPro and Catalyst 11.8+Cap4 (it does not work with 11.10 BF2 performance Catalyst)

First you need to add witcher.exe to RadeonPro. (see image below)
Then you set up your RadeonPro to run with AFR-Friendly D3D under "Force CrossfireX Profile" and Alternate Frame Rendering under "MVPUMode" just like the screen below.

My results:
Running normally with Launcher
Flotsam Hangman event // 20+ Npc's in the area = 35 FPS

Running with RadeonPro
Flotsam Hangman event // 20+ Npc's in the area = 56 FPS

Edit - Added Screenshot comparison.

Everything ok in this one, but as soon as i go to a place with a lot of NPC's....

Notice in this screen below how my fps drop drasticaly in crowded areas, even with crossfire on i dont gain much improvement.

Now lets try it with RadeonPro Profile loaded.

Now i rarely run below 50 fps.
Ultra(no ubersampling) @1080p

Sorry for my english, i live in Brazil :)
Peace.

Thanks for posting this, I will try this and I'll tell you how it went.

Where is that "RadeonPro" program located? I have both Catalyst 11.8+Cap4 installed.

Just found out it's a seperate program that needs to be downloaded from Ati's site.

Thank you man! You are the firts to bring up this problem. I can't check if it's working because i'm on 11.10 ver 2:(

Not exactly. RadeonPro is not published by AMD/ATI. You get it from author John Mautari's site, http://www.radeonpro.info

Indispensable if you have an AMD/ATI card, doubly so if you have a Crossfire setup.

Thanks for the correction, didn't notice that I got directed from Ati's site to the Radeonpro site.

So far I have had no luck, looks like I'm getting same fps as before. Perhaps a few more fps, hard to say since the fps isn't consistent. In the town of Flotsam I hardly gain any fps with Crossfire, in the woods of Flotsam however, I do get a fps boost.

I should mention that my crossfire system consists of a 4890 1024mb and a 4870 512mb, that might be why, or perhaps the driver already choses the best CrossfireX rendering mode.

Thanks anyway, it's a great program.

I've noticed that the Catalyst A.I. setting in the CCC has changed. Before I installed RadeonPro I had the alternatives "Disabled, Standard, Advanced" (it's still like that in RadeonPro) now it says "Texture filtering" beneath the settings and I have the alternatives "Performance, Quality, High quality" and a tick box for a new setting "Enable Surface Format Optimization". Should I ignore them and just use RadeonPro (I supose the RadeonPro global & profile settings get priority over the CCC settings) or do they matter? If they matter, I supose having "Surface Format Optimization" disabled and the "Texture filtering" setting to "High quality" would give me the best image quality.

Is there some way to get this working on drivers 11.10 ?

It's known to be not compatible with 11.10 yet. You'd have to use older drivers. Or be patient. John Mautari maintains this tool diligently, so you won't have to wait too long.

If i use this trick with the 11.10 ver.2 (Rage+BF3 driver) i get flickering in the screen.
Maybe it will work in the final version of the driver.

There is no update for RadeonPro yet! Any other solution?

Thanks for these guidelines.

I just crossfired a second 6850 and it is definitely worth it for this game. It was a bit clunky with just one 6850 on ultra, now it is liquid. I just wish there were a fix for Eyefinity.
