PS3 or not to PS3?

PS3 or not to PS3?

A simple and short question that I want to ask because a friend keeps nagging me about it: Is there going to be a PS3 port for The Witcher 2 or not?

I know that CD Projekt RED isn't working on a PS3 port right now, but will they make a port in the future? I did read that CD Projekt RED is currently looking for developers with experience in developing for the PS3. Does that mean there indeed will be a Witcher 2 PS3 port? Or does this mean that The Witcher 3 might possibly be multi-platform?

Nobody knows if there will eventually be a PS3 version of The Witcher 2. CDPR hasn't denied or confirmed anything about it.

They have stated however, that their future big titles will be available to at least 2 platforms at launch.

Cell processing and programming is very difficult. Not even Sony likes to program for the PS3.

True. The main complaint regarding PS3 development was Sony's infamous provided API. CDPR is new to the console field, and their take on the Xbox was due to the similar architecture it shares with the PC. The Witcher 2 is already becoming one of the most successful games of all time, and that alone should give some hope that CDPR won't overlook their sales potential from yet another platform.

If there are any plans for the PS3, its result is going to be far later from now. As far as I know, it took CDPR about 10 months to port the game to the Xbox. I'm not sure if that included the time it took them to work on the Enhanced Edition content though. But you get the idea, aye?

Er... I'm not sure how you can make that statement. They need multi millions more to be one of the most successful games of all time. Many many more millions.

Despite how statistics are raised, do you consider the game to be a potential top hit?

As much as I enjoy games on PS3, CDPR is very small studio and PS3 port would take some time to develop. They used whole team to make 360 port. Instead I would rather want them to start making TW3 or that other, new IP AAA+ game they said they will release in 2 years or so.

I believe it's quality, just like I believe certain other games I like are quality, but not even those games have sold even 8 million which is the lowest "most successful" that exists.

I understand that a game's success is commonly measured by its sales. But what can hold a game so unique in its genre like The Witcher against a majority-favored title like CoD for instance? I believe it's "yet" to be this successful in its own category. You probably don't see it that way, and that's alright. But at least you do acknowledge that measurement of success can sometimes be subjective, right?

So the odds are pretty much against a PS3 port?

Potential for sales on the PS3 is high, it's got nothing to do with the technical aspect because the XBox360 and PS3 are rather evenly matched. It's how you use the hardware that counts.

We've also seen a Spanish shop advertising it for sale. Doesn't make it true.

It depends on a lot of things and if CDPR have the manpower, time to do it. Technically as I said, there shouldn't be too much of problem and being harder to program for depends on how you look at it.
