PSA - Quick Scan/Highlight Loot (A Feature Disabled By Default)

+
A quick PSA for anyone that may be unaware;

Cyberpunk has a gameplay feature that enables V to highlight all loot by performing a quick scan and it's a pretty essential feature (for anyone wanting to explore Night City without missing any loot), unfortunately however it's disabled by default ever since 2.0 reworks due to the game's Control Scheme defaulting to Alternative (2.0 control scheme which does not have this feature at all).

HOW TO ENABLE QUICK SCAN
  • In order to actually be able to perform a Quick Scan go to Controls > Controller > Control Scheme and set it to either Classic or Dynamic. Once that's done simply tapping the Scan button from then on will highlight all loot within a certain distance of V.
  • NOTE TO PC USERS! - Even if you don't play with a controller the control scheme needs to be changed if you wish to perform Quick Scan(s) because the control scheme affects KBM too.

This is what it looks like in actual gameplay;

a little late but I'm running into this issue now when I don't remember running into the last time I played a bit after PL came out. so bizarre there's like 0 mention of this anywhere seeing as it's straight up a feature that doesn't exist on keyboard; Tab/Caps Lock are just two methods (one toggle, one hold) of activating the same feature, that feature being FULL scan.

From the inputUserMappings XML, Vision_Toggle_Button ("vision" being the internal name for scanning) is NOT equivalent to the "quick scan" feature that is exclusively available to 2 out of the 3 possible controller presets. I'm not actually sure where QuIck Scan is even defined to be honest, especially since it's probably under some different name involving "Vision".

I get the function of highlighting loot or whatever might not be as big of a deal for people playing with M/KB but it's huge if you're playing on controller. Out of all the bug fixes/mods available for all the super niche things in the game, (I mean, as of March 2026 there's 20000 mods for this game on Nexus), it's hard to believe that I couldn't find one that addresses this issue. A couple of mods or getting L1 press to work for toggling Full Scan instead of having to hold it (which is easily fixed without any mods anyway) but that's the closest thing I could find

The original post is over a year ago with no responses. Very few hits online about the issue overall.

Primary concern, as always:
Are you using mods, or have you ever used any in the past?

A quick search on Nexus turned up:
Seems a bit cheat-y, potentially, but there is mention of configurable options for what it highlights. Could be a viable workaround.

I have mods now but not when I tested it. I knew that I had some wonky stuff (i.e. personal edits) going on with the input mapping file the last playthrough I did a couple years ago (said files having been deleted long ago) so I looked into keybindings/input with the vanilla game before I got any mods involved. I honestly can't remember if I solved the problem somehow back then though.

Thanks for the link, not exactly it (no idea why people would want that giant special effect for every single piece of loot) but I left a comment requesting the basic function of Quick Scan.

My question is, if it is in fact present for the first two controller layouts on PC, shouldn't that be "defined" or something somewhere in the files? or is it like, untouchable baked-in code or something?

Yes, forcing edits in control mapping through configuration files, hex edits, etc. can cause issues, especially if the keybinds are greyed out in the games menus.

Mods can cause issues if the game was saved with them running. There's a difference between a game that has never been modded and a game in which mods have been removed. Removing mods can often introduce issues. Not sure if that applies to your situation.
