Question about loading screens

I was wondering where the loading screens live in the Witcher's game files. (I have version 1.5 with the director's cut.) I'd love to have some of them to rotate through as my desktop backgrounds, but I just can't find the files (if they even exist as stand-alone files). So does anyone know where they live or how to get them? I guess I could use FRAPS and take lots of screenshots... but I'm looking for a less time-consuming method. I figure the files have to live somewhere. If it's possible to use Djinni to get them I'd happily do so if I knew how. If it's possible I'll move this discussion to that forum.ThanksI know, I know Gamebanshee has them here http://www.gamebanshee.com/thewitcher/loadingscreens.php#null but my desktop resolution is 1920x1080 and the ones they have are 1024x768.

Sure. They're in textures00. Once you've unbiffed the file, you'll get a huge folder full of dds files. The loading screens all have names that start with the area that they're for, things like g01day_01.dds or l24night_01.dds. (Half of the names start with "g" and half with "l.") The DDS files are all upside down, so if you want to use them as wallpaper, you'll probably want to convert them to png or jpg or something. And they're not in 1920x1080; they're 1024 x 1024. Plus, half of that is black space.A lot of picture viewers can't cope with DDS files. You might want to download the WTV program to look at DDS files with.Since I know you're involved with making a new adventure, I haven't explained how to unbiff things or anything, since I figure you know how to do that already. (Edited to add: But wait, it says you have two posts. But there's a Sayne who's making "The Crossroads." Are you a different Sayne, then?)(I would have attached one to this post, but the file size is too big.) But this is what they look like:

No I am not he. I am just me. That makes him an impostor. I am the real Sayne....No seriously I'm just some dude from Pennsylvania; occasionally there are other people around the internets who use the same name as me. It kinda creeps me out. If the other Sayne is also from PA I will be really creeped out.Thank you for the info, though. I understand what unbiffing means but don't know how to do it. The follow-up to "If it's possible to use Djinni to get them I'd happily do so if I knew how. If it's possible I'll move this discussion to that forum." would have been "So... how do I do that?" ;-)And if the images are only 1024x1024 anyways, I might be better off just copying all the jpegs from the Gamebanshee and let windows size them to my desktop accordingly. I get the black bars, you never know what resolution people use, so leave room for error. But why the heck are they upside-down? Some quirk of the engine or something? Weird. Edit: God I cannot spell sometimes...

Since he's been here longer than you have, I think he might have a different opinion about who the impostor is. :)

You're safe; I think the other one is from Poland.

The Djinni Wiki explains how to unbiff files: http://djinni.wikia.com/wiki/Extracting_the_original_files

I think that might be your best bet.

It's DDS files that are weird, not the Aurora engine. You need a special plug-in if you want to edit DDS files in Photoshop or Gimp, and the one for Gimp doesn't work very well. You need a special viewer to see them because most image viewing programs don't handle them. DDS files seem to always be a special case or need special, extra software. I don't know enough about image formats to know why they're used so often in games, but they are.

Has anyone extracted these and saved them someplace?I'd love to have them, but I am not very computer talented when it comes to this stuff.

Uh, if you'll read the first post again, you'll see it has a link to a place where you can download the loading screens. The original poster was only asking how to extract them himself because he wanted a bigger version than the ones that are available at http://www.gamebanshee.com/thewitcher/loadingscreens.php#null.
