Question about the Kaedwenis (Spoilers)

What exactly is the objective of the Kaedwenis and in particular Dethmold if Henselt is dead?

Hard to say, and the game doesn't really go into it. So we get to speculate

Without Henselt, Dethmold seems to be in command. At least nobody will challenge him to his face. But he won't be able to hold on forever. The soldiers hate him, and he knows the first knight who knows how to take on a mage will curbstomp him, to much vulgar rejoicing.

So Dethmold has to have a way out. His ticket is Anais. Whoever gets custody of Anais is bound to be grateful in suitable measure. This person might not mind having a brilliant, amoral toady of a mage at court, or might at least be willing to give him a running start.

There is no way Dethmold can rule Kaedwen, that much is certain imo. Almost everyone hates him. He's the perfect scapegoat that does all the dirty work.

Dethmold can't have Anais if Henselt's dead, as Roche gets her. He might still try to find her.
Otherwise, Dethmold would probably go into hiding, in part due to the mage hunt.
I do not expect he'll do much.

Kaedwen without Henselt and without an heir will likely collapse in civil war.

Well, Roche spoils Dethmold's plan, but it looked to me like Dethmold was keeping Anais as a hostage, even with Henselt dead. What use he would have for her as a hostage is still speculative, but bargaining his way into a new position or at least a way out would be a likely guess.

Yea I agree. He might be bargaining with Nilfgaard.

It's too bad the epilogue reels don't elaborate on what happens to Kaedwen if Henselt is dead. As it stands all we have is the same scene with Dethmold and Anais and the Kaedwenis.... are just there.

I think Dethmold might manage to keep Kaedwen from falling into Outright civil war. I mean he is more capable then Natalis but ultimately I doubt he will be able to rule so to speak.

Ironically, yes; Dethmold is so widely feared and hated that he might succeed in uniting the nobles and the standing army against him, thus avoiding or at least postponing a civil war in favor of a rebellion that would be deemed "glorious" in the history books :p

Will be nice to see what they do with Dethmold in the third one if he's alive. I'm not expecting much since he's dead in most runs(always dead on Iorveth's and 50/50 chance on Roche's.)
