Quick Netrunning Demo

Hello everyone!

Im currently working on a personal project about a Cyberpunk 2020 based browser game, well, it could be a game, a system simulator, an aid for some pen and paper session... really dont know yet

But I worked this week into the Netrunning aspect of the game, and here is the result, it uses house rules to simplify the system, and make it more quick and enjoyable (Quick Netrunnig rules of CiberSmily inspired me on this form)

When I have more time I will explain the "Netrunning flow" of this mini game, but feel free to try and leave some feedback!

UPDATED: Fixed some errors found and added a Help section that explains how the game works.

Tried it a bit.
Seems to work well enough but a step-by-step tutorial with explanations as to why to do what would VERY welcome.
P.S. I generally play a Netrunner.

Very cool! Enjoying it right now.

Sure could use a How to though.

Also a way to save my character.

OH! Maybe some IP!

I just bricked Infocomp. Weeflerunners.

Did you try the "Show help" Button? There is some game mechanics explanation right there, I will expand it as soon as I have more time.

You can edit the Character, Deck and DataFortress value on the first page, I plan to use it while Im playing a game session make the netrunner actually have to "log in" and catch some data for the party.

Yeah i did check the "Show Help" but while it explained the controls well enough, "how", not much on "why" to do "what" "when".

Didn't understand what you mean, can you explain a bit more?

Noted, I will work in some way to save the input data, but as I said on first post this is a part of a bigger web in which you can make a character and all data is stored in a database, this is a model I made to check it running, I wasn't even planning to show it until it was more integrated with the whole webpage, but I liked how it was running and maybe it takes long time to get the full version ready, and want to know which impression causes and what suggestions have.

I made a quick fix and your data will last while the session last, not really a "save" but will keep data while you using the web

Here's the "Help" as currently implemented
=========================================================================================
CyberDeck
- Name: Your deck. Flavour text.
- Speed: Shoul be between 1 and 5. Is used in every Netrunning roll
- Rating: The rating is the general power of the deck. On my personal system the next stats are all based on Rating (ranging 1-10), you could decide how is distributed at the start of each Netrun and the distribution is: Rating+1, Rating+1,Rating, Rating, Rating-1. This system is heavily based on Shadowrun's 5ed matrix rules. Its not yet implemented the possibility of changing distribution while doing the Netrun, but is planed, also you can have a Rating 10 deck and set Datawall to 1, the mentioned system would be implemented later if feels right.
- DataWall: For defense rolls against ICE and Antipersonel attacks.
- Intrusion: For sneaking into DataFortress levels and data.
- Detection: Used to look around for new access and hidden data.
- Evasion: To fool system attempts of tracing you
- AntiSystem: Want to damage the system you are on? This is your stat.
- Memory Units: Ye olde Memory Units. Storage for your paydata.

Data Fortress
- Name: DataFortress name. Flavour text.
- Nº of CPUs: Number of CPU's ranging from 1 to 7, this is the raw power of the system and also the number of levels deep the DataFortress will be. Is used as a character BODY to calculate total damage and boxes (10+CPU*2)
- IPv6: Flavour text. In an hypothetical "game" or "game aid" every DataFortress has his unique name and IPv6 so you can access it. This text is not editable yet, but not important for the run.
- DataWall: Defense (and attack) of the DataFortress. Used in all rolls and limits the damage output of the fortress. His level should be as high as the CPU's and up to 10.
- CodeGate: Defense (and tracing) of the DataFortress. Used in all roll and limits the trace output of the fortress. His level should be as low as 2 and as high as 10.
- Difficulty: Is the added value of everything in the fortress as (CPU*3)+DataWall+CodeGate-Damage Penalties
=========================================================================================

You start a new run and your options are:
Access level
Re-Route trace

I guess we're to assume we want to "Access level", but if I were to "Re-Route trace" would that give me access to the same or a different DataFortress?
##########

So we hit "Access level", now our options are:
Search access
Search Data

And we have some information:
Running CodeCracker_v6(Level_1, hack_key_seed_1)
Runner - Intrusión(28 ) vs DataFortress (23)
Access level 1 granted
Trace: 96%

Apparently someone ran "CodeCracker_v6" ... is this my attempt to access the fortress? Or am I being opposed by "CodeCracker_v6"? What is "CodeCracker_v6", no clue as it's not mentioned in the help file.

Apparently "Runner - Intrusión(28 ) vs DataFortress (23)" is my "Intrusión" vs the "DataWall" of the fortress, but since it's just called "DataFortress" that's just a guess.

OK, "Access level 1 granted", is this good enough to access any and all data in the fortress?

"Trace: 96%", does this indicate they have a 96% chance to trace me? Or I have a 96% chance to avoid a trace? What is a trace? In the help it says "Evasion: To fool system attempts of tracing you", do I need to run an evasion routine? How do I do that? Is it automatically run? And "CodeGate: Defense (and tracing) of the DataFortress. Used in all roll and limits the trace output of the fortress. His level should be as low as 2 and as high as 10." Well 96 certainly isn't between 2 and 10 so what, if anything, is the help telling me?

Have you checked the second page? The rolls are explained there, which stats and skills are used, the fact that trace value is a number after you roll your skill but is converted to percentage to make you guess, etc, etc...

I think some points you made are explained there, the thing behind "CodeCracker_v6" is only some flavour text about the netrunner launching a program that seems appropiate to the action, nothing more.

Pretty nifty stuff. Really like the graphics. A tad on the slow side of processing button clicks. I did a quick F12 on IE and captured the network traffic. Looks like a call to http://hostinger.eu/? is causing a delay before it is aborted. Also your image files are taking .59, 1.18, and .93 seconds to load. Might want to see about optimizing their size and/or getting them saved to browser cache so they aren't loaded every time you click a button. Just a suggestion :D
Lastly, glad to have inspired you. Took my little idea and did some great stuff with it. Kudos.

Thanks for the suggestions, the fact is that I was making test on local and then realized that you guys would like to see something like this, so I quickly get the code, stripped it from the original web and get a free hosting (hostinger), the images are an approximation of what I want to show, they don't have the proper size, just want to show that when you make an action a related image is shown, but didnt care much about the images.

Now Im working in some ways to improve it and want to put it onto my Android App, so you can get a Combat and Netrunning help together.

Nonsense. Anyone could have made that mistake. Anyone, you know...who'd taken one too many clonks to the helmet.

So, xkorpio, I notice I can dump what's in my Memory Units if I find something juicier. I like it!

yeah, but you can't know it in advance, only check the value of the file and wonder if you can get some more MU and higher value data

---------- Updated at 06:47 AM ----------

What I really want to know is, what do you think of this approach of Netrunnig and how well it adapts to current published material?

I tried to stay in numbers as close as I can with CP2020 but trying to simplify things (no lots of programs, just categories) and abastracting things so you dont need a map to play (level distribution over chess maps)

It's a trade-off.

I like how clean it is and easy to use. I like that it allows me to take my character details and do a fast run, with results.

But, there is no sense of distance travelled, risk taken or Magic Experienced. There is no sense of Net -running- per se.

Yeah, for simply getting results it works very well indeed, but as Sard said there's no real "Netrunning" experience.
