Radeon HD 6970 and the Witcher 2

Is it just me, but the Witcher 2 jumps in framerate way too much. One moment I have about 60 the next 30. I am very sure I don't have faulty hardware.

I play the Witcher 2 in 1080p with ultra settings. (Ubersampling off of course)

PC Specs:
CPU/ Intel Core i7-2600
Motherboard/ MSI P67A-G43 (B3)
GPU/ SAPPHIRE 100311SR Radeon HD 6970
PSU/ CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX

I think I'm experiencing the same thing as you. I have a much older system: P5B Deluxe motherboard, Intel Core 2 X6800 2.9GHz, 8GB 400Mhz RAM and one HD6970. Outside Flotsam I'm getting 70+ fps, but when I enter the town, it dips down to 24-30fps. But you said your fps drops random?

I think I'm experiencing the same thing as you. I have a much older system: P5B Deluxe motherboard, Intel Core 2 X6800 2.9GHz, 8GB 400Mhz RAM and one HD6970. Outside Flotsam I'm getting 70+ fps, but when I enter the town, it dips down to 24-30fps. But you said your fps drops random?

It drops when there are a lot of things going on in the game. The tower siege at the beginning of the game is one such area. I am using this youtube video as a reference http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBTy7_BUUtw

I essentially have the best AMD GPU (besides the 6990) so I should be able to run this on max with little to no problems.

"Should" and "actually can" can turn out to be very different things. This game is on a unique engine, and the only comparably demanding game is probably Metro 2033. Lots of players with high-end rigs have had to put effort into tuning.

If you're toggling between 60 and 30 fps, I'd first look at whether you're bumping up against Vsync. If Vsync is enabled, try disabling it. If that gives you excessive screen tearing, enable both Vsync and Triple Buffering.

Thanks for the advice, but vsync is disabled. I swear the game ran better before 2.0 came out.
